Excellent! JJ Abrams got it right - even the humor. The only criticism is the bad guy isn't bad enough - but those are BIG shoes to fill. We loved it.

Spirit of the Original Series

What an awesome installment of the Star Trek Legacy! The cast was fantastic and obviously studied the original series for each of their characters as they all did a fine job of adopting the mannerisms and personalities of the characters that Trekkie's have loved for many years.

This is an exciting time for all Trek fans as we now have a new generation of adventures ahead of us! I hope that there are other movies to come with this current cast.

This film is definately one that any trekkie would want to experience for his or herself!

Truly enjoyed. Great casting, all the characters were in place and had the young personalities that you could see would grow into the people we have come to know so well. Interesting story, although the time/space stuff was a bit confusing. I would pay to see it again and I RARELY go to the movie theatre. Would like to see it in IMAX. Great special effects, the acting was very good, exciting movie.

This installment of the Star Trek franchise is by far the best. J.J. left me wanting more. Plus the fact that the characters are not prominant A-Listers made it even better. These guys, and gal, hit the nail on the head. What would be interesting is J.J. considered a series with this group.

Excellent movie, action packed funny as heck and it kept you at the edge of your seat. I took my wife who can not stand Sci-Fi and who only talks about people who goes to movies like this. By the time the movie was half over; she was laughing, cheering and clapping at the events unfolding. She said it was like watching a video game that was being played for you. She had a ball and although she still is a Sci-Fi critique, she said we could own this movie when it comes out on DVD...
P.S. You have got to see this movie, and if you can catch in IMAX, you are a winner twice over….

Star Trek Re-Discovered

The latest incarnation of the franchise is by far the best of the recent films. The characters stayed true to the originals and yet managed to carve a new direction and distinct path for themselves. As a die hard Trekkie, I really enjoyed this film and look forward to the next installment, as the sky is the limit now!!!

Thrilling movie

This was a thrilling and intense movie, from the beginning to the end. There were some moments that were a bit far-reaching for me, but overall I enjoyed the movie. I really enjoyed getting acquainted with the new and younger crew. I'm sure this now opens the window for many new adventures for the young and improved USS Enterprise.

All of the actors did a great job of breathing new life into the classic characters of the series. The story keeps you involved and interested even if you know nothing about Star Trek. J.J. Abrams makes a brilliant commercial move in his version of Star Trek by exploiting the parallel universe sci-fi plot to create unlimited storytelling opportunities without stepping on the toes of the original franchise. The movie gave us quite a ride, but I left wondering about the back story of the original Shatner team and how the Kirk who had known his father had come to lead the Enterprise and its crew to places no one had gone before.

the movie seemed to start in mid story but it was soon clear that chronology guessing was not necessary due to incredibly written story that would answer all questions at exactly the right time. The beloved main characters were revealed one by on in such an inventive way that even old fans can feel they know them like never before. The action was intense throughout and the story was filled with many emotional surprises. Must see again!

Totally awesome. I actually wanted to see it again the next day. The effects were great, the story was engaging and SPOCK RULES (both of them). I thought it would be rough to see a non-Shatner Kirk, but it worked. I do wish they had a cameo for an older Kirk as well... hint hint! Can't wait for the next one!

Smartly stitching together an attractive and talented young cast to take this series back to the future (and hoped-for sequels), Abrams wisely is not looking for actors doing impressions of a young William Shatner or Leonard Nimoy. In Chris Pine as Kirk and Zachary Quinto (Heroes) as Spock, he found two talented stars who uncannily suggest and interpret these iconic characters at the beginning of their life voyage together. With the trademark haircut and ears, Quinto nails the essence of what we might imagine Spock was like as a youth. Pine is rugged and cocky but not over-the-top as Kirk.

Star Trek is BACK!

The new Trek movie is phenomenal! It was exactly what the franchise needed to get people back into the theaters. The storyline is nowhere near "Wrath of Khan" standards, but overall this is definitely one of the top Star Trek movies. The look of the film, action sequences, and special effects really blow those of the previous Trek films out of the water. The actors did a great job of re-imagining the classic characters, while still keeping their spirit and mannerisms alive for the longtime fans. Trek needed to become more "sexy" for a new generation of fans, and the producers certainly did a great job of achieving that.

Classic Action Adventure

Although it borrows characters from and pays homage to the original “Star Trek” this movie really is something new. As re-imaginings go, it’s one of the best.

The performances, direction, special effects, set design and costuming are stellar. Characters are engaging and the story is exciting. As an action adventure picture, it's near perfection.

The one element that falters slightly is the writing. The emotional side of things is well handled, but occasionally the plot meanders, getting bogged down by a comic gag or an exposition sequence. And the movie sometimes lacks subtlety and sophistication.

But that's not what “Star Trek” is about at all. It's about getting swept up in an adventure. It's about fun. And I definitely had fun.

Not again...

I've been a long time Trekkie and I have really enjoyed the franchise. That said, this movie disappointed me. I am tired of the “Time Travel” revisionist tricks which allows writers an “easy out” of redoing “history.”
I feel like this movie negated a great deal of the lore of classic Star Trek.
Why couldn’t the writers come up with something new? Why did they feel like they had to go and monkey with the established? With a rich, detailed universe of Star Trek material to draw from, they chose to go and rewrite the beginning?
Perhaps I am a purist, perhaps I am a rule follower, but I did not enjoy the plot of this story or what it was trying to do.
You be the judge.

Looking forward to the future

Really diffrent than anything before it. Some dialogue seemed to be not very genuine, like the actors could not believe they were saying it, Bones was the worst offender. Having said that I found Bones to be the most enjoyable character, with Scotty a close second, The industrial style of the engine rooms was certinly unexpected though fitting and the detailed shots of the shuttle bays was great. A nice foundation was layed for the future, can't wait for the next one.

I was never a huge Star Trek fan, but the trailers for this one caught my attention, and I wasn't disappointed. The special effects were awesome, but beyond that, the acting was really top notch. Chris Pine nailed Kirk's swagger and threw in just enough comedy to keep my interest.

An advid viewer of the past Star Treks, was
pleasantly surprised and delighted with this
movie. Great cast, super plot. Really looking
forward to future episodes. Loved it. Also at
our Showcase Cinema we treated ourselves
for Mother's Day by purchasing tickets for our
Luxury Theater, where you are able to sit in
large leather rocking recliners with a table
between chairs and waitresses that bring youwhatever you would desire from a wide-range of items on their menu, not to mention
beer and/or cocktails. It was a great
afternoon.

I grew up watching the original star trek series and this movie was an excellent rendition. What i really liked about this version is that it started from the begining and used different actors. Only Spock came back and it was not overkill. I would go back to the theatre and watch it again.
