The movie states brief content. Took my 4 year old and only had to cover his eyes once. The scene showed them in their underwear with the male on top and another stipping only to her underwear. The fight and action senes were good and it is worth seeing.

The characters names are the same, and the ship design is great, so far so good, but that's about it. Is it just me or does the entire crew of the Enterprise look like they should still be in diapers!? The music was not sci-fi enough for me. Both the scenes and music had more of an action movie theme to it. When the warp core was ejected why was the Enterprise not immediately sucked into the black hole, since being at Warp speed was the only thing keep the ship stationary? Set design was lacking except for the Bridge which was too advanced to be in a prequel. As for the rest of the ship(s) what was up with all the beams and girders? We're not on the Titanic! True trekkie fans will hate this movie.

This was a good movie for Trek fans. It presents an alternate beginning to the original storyline. I would have preferred a backstory that was more closely related to the original, but this one was an acceptable alternative. The action was compelling. The casting was pretty good. The new Bones captured the original very well. In fact he was probably the best match both in appearance and personality. The engine room was too industrial for my taste.

This new Trek is the most epic and exciting since ST4. The fast-paced action and drama, injected with humor and the characters' famous lines, start right at the beginning and don't let up for the film's entire two hours. J.J. Abrams worked hard to pay tribute while updating Roddenbury's vision. The casting is nearly flawless.
As a Trek fan going on 25 years now, I walked out of the theater feeling very happy and excited. I trust you will, too.

I loved it. Pure, enjoyable entertainment! I'm sure some people will point out flaws, and complain about how it's not the same as the original, but it was fun to watch, cool sfx, great casting (esp. Dr. McCoy) and good acting.
Well done JJ Abrams two thumbs up from me, and I can't wait for the next one. Also, Eric Bana makes me wanna jump sides!

Despite all the nay sayers who think this movie breaks ST Canon, I found it perfectly wonderful, and a great NEW beginning, with possibilities not even considered for future stories (and I am a DIE HARD ST fan from the '60's.
Having the "old" Trek universe upended in such a creative manner is a shear stroke of brilliance. I just hope J.J. sticks around!

Great performances, perfect casting, full of cleverness and action. The story doesn't fit perfectly into the Star Trek canon, but I had no problem with it. Zachary Quinto (Spock) and Chris Pine (Kirk) did not succumb to impersonations of Nimoy and Shatner; they still made the characters familiar and real.

I grew up watching the original series. To me the only Star Trek is with Kirk, Spock, Bones, etc. When I first heard that they recast and were doing a reboot, I was excited. The movie doesn't disappoint either. It brings Trek into the current day without compromising it's roots. The casting for the most part was solid. My favorites were Bones and Chekov. Bones' mannerisms were spot on. The movie is a high octaine Star Trek. Now my kids can apreciate Star Trek like I did when I was a kid. I look forward to where they go from here. I will probably see it again before the summer ends.

The new Star Trek was very enjoyable. Zachary Quinto is an excellent young Spock, and while not as pretty as young Shatner, Chris Pine captures the role well. The film had action, humor, peril, twisty time paradoxes, explosions, romance - pretty much what you would expect from a Star Trek outing. It was nice to see Leonard Nimoy again, although I thought he was in it a little too much, coming back near the end. I thought Mr Urban captured the essence of Dr McCoy the best. It was an enjoyable movie, Trekkers will be happy to see Trek again, and new fans will have a new adventure. The time business lets them off the hook of following the past. I was leery of what JJ Abrams would do with the franchise, but he did a great job!

i am not a star trek fan. have never seen a full episode of the tv show and have never seen any of the other movies. i went with a true trekkie an we both LOVED it. i will be purchasing this move and watching it many times. enjoyed every single minute. definitely worth it!!!

i am an old fan of the star trek tv shows & movies. i wasn't sure how i would feel about this one. But, I am truly impressed (!!) All of the characters and the way they came across. I feel that the original characters from the tv & movies could have started this way definately. The beginning shows how ........ (This is all I am going to say for those that have not seen the movie) except

AWESOME MOVIE! Kirk and Spock were perfectly cast. PERFECTLY. The visuals were stunning. A few of the scenes brought tears to my eyes. The Ice Alien Monster REALLY freaked me out. YIKES! Great Job !

Director JJ Abrams delivered and provided a good introduction to the franchise for younger fans - with great special effects. We now have a glimpse into the character development of Kirk, Spock, Uhura, Bones, and others but for some of us older folks there were a few disconnects from the TV show: Since when did Uhura and Spock get it on? Spock's mother (Jane Wyatt) was alive and well in many episodes and again in the movies. And, how did Captain Pike get to be so disabled in later TV episodes. So for me - unlike in the Star Wars prequels - there wasn't a clean fit. OK for all you dissenters - I'll take the literary license and go with it - but - after this show - I can't see another prequel coming and that greatly disappoints me.

The best action film i have seen in years, The concept of re booting Star Trek kinda scared me being a Trek fan, we all saw the results of a non trek director taking the helm in the past and watching it fail miserably. With this one Mr. Abrams hit the ball out of the galaxy. It reminded me of the reboot of BSG. The acting was stellar as were the special effects and the story line. It grabs you with in the first 3 minutes and dosnt let go.

Good story, excellent casting, interesting dialogue and great action, unlike any Star Trek has seen. Do yourself a favor and don't take all your "original" Star Trek baggage into the theater with you. This is an update, and there is a really cool twist on why we are watching an origination story movie. It all makes sense to me, but there are some hardcore trekkers that may think the movie is no good. They are wrong. I do agree with another reviewer here that the only thing missing was a cameo from Shatner, but he is a dingus and probably let his ego get in the way of doing something like that. Oh well, go see the movie, you won't be disappointed.

It was awesome! Will need to see it in the theatre a few times at least! Wholeheartedly recommend everyone who needs a fun escape for a couple of hours to GO SEE THIS MOVIE!!! JJ Abrams did a wonderful job and the cast is superb! They could start a tv series for ten years and make my family very, very happy! Or alternatively, tv series and a movie every couple of years all with the same cast.

I must say that the characters were impeccably depicted. I loved the use of comments they'd always used in past episodes, seeing how Commander Pike lost the use of his legs, and typical expressions that only those characters would use. I am excited that there will be more of these movies, and am hoping that even though James Kirk died in one of the movies, that he can come back during that time when he was in the NEXXUS to participate in one of the movies. It was great to see Spock (the original) featured in the movie. This movie is one you won't want to miss if you've watched Star Trek ever since the '70s. HIGHEST RATING - SOOOOO GOOD!

Just like in the beginning of STAR TREK series.... the studio will have to decide WHO the main STAR is and to name that person. Even though SPOCK was more popular with the audience of STAR TREK original, the studio named Shatner as the star. Same thing many years ago..The Spock(s) blows Kirk's performance away. Well done Mr Abrams! But destroying Vulcan & Spock's Mom? Not ok with former trekie by re-writing history!
