This movie will be very entertaining for children despite the scarier than Jurassic Park Tyrannosaurus rex. The plot leaves a lot to be desired, but this is a family movie after all not a drama. I vaguely remember watching the original series as a child, and this new version more than lives up to the original, and even surpasses it. Way to go Will Ferrell!
Yes, I recommend this movie.

The characters names are the same, and the ship design is great, so far so good, but that's about it. Is it just me or does the entire crew of the Enterprise look like they should still be in diapers!? The music was not sci-fi enough for me. Both the scenes and music had more of an action movie theme to it. When the warp core was ejected why was the Enterprise not immediately sucked into the black hole, since being at Warp speed was the only thing keep the ship stationary? Set design was lacking except for the Bridge which was too advanced to be in a prequel. As for the rest of the ship(s) what was up with all the beams and girders? We're not on the Titanic! True trekkie fans will hate this movie.
No, I do not recommend this movie.
