The cast all played their relationships well. I would have liked to see Terrence Howard do more with his role, and I wanted to see the rebel leader more involved (I thought the resolution to that subplot was weak.) The end fight was also soft, I didn't feel the stakes were high enough, and the pacing was slow (it could have been cut to a 1:30 runtime).
Overall, I enjoyed it and I'd see it again. Robert Downey, Jr. owned his role, and the chemistry between all the players from the beginning to the end kept me interested. Stick around until the end titles finish, if you can...

I won't give any of the movie away in this review. Excelent, casting, Well written, acted and directed. Downey Jr. is excelent as an arogant billionaire weapons manufacturer, his sarcastic and playful wit are a perfect match for the character written years ago by Marvel comics. Jeff Bridges is wonderful as usual and seemed to really get caught up in the role. Gwyneth and Terrence Howard also did well as supporting cast. In addition to all this Favreau did a great job of adapting a screenplay that wouldn't stray away from the comic book version of this super hero. This combined with excelent special effects and action scenes makes for a wonderful movie that is a lot of fun and pleasurable to watch. I will be going to see it again.

This was by far my favorite Marvel movie adaptation to date. On par with Batman Begins for best comic book adaptation I've ever seen. The plot wasn't overcomplicated, the characters were well-developed, the acting was superb, the special effects were amazing. I couldn't find a single flaw with this movie, I can't wait to see The Incredible Hulk and anything else Marvel Studios puts out!

First off, I had to hold back my tears because by the end of hour one, Robert Downey Jr. signalled his return to on screen glory. When I think of Charlie Chaplin, Downey was that role; Downey is Ironman. Not a wasted second on screen with the stellar cast (all the way down to a robotic arm), never looked on screen once and felt the movie was anything but genuine. If you have been on Space Moutain in Disneyland, you will know exactly what I am talking about, flawless direction by Jon F. Spiderman 2 doesn't hold a candle.
Critics hype is not hype at all.
Good luck 2008... a mountain just appeared for any movie to climb.

I have to say that I am more impressed with Iron Man than I ever was with other movies of the comic book genre. This one did not have that completely fake feel that some of the others have had. I definately recomend this for anyone who likes a good action film.

I have been an Iron Man fan since his first guest appearances in the comics. I had the original Iron Man comic until my mother threw out my comic collection as trash.
With all the hype, I was a little skeptical that this movie could live up to my memories of true heroism. Iron Man delivers heroism by the buckets, and the effects are fabulous.
Robert Downey, Jr. delivers a smart performance as playboy Tony Stark who becomes Iron Man after a life altering relationship under extreme circumstances.
Iron Man 's supporting cast makes you cheer; when the villains get theirs, or when Pepper Potts (Gwyneth Paltrow) buys herself the dress of the century. Stan Lee rules, again!

Now this is what happens when Marvel keeps the produciton in house and doesn't allow a story to be changed for "hollywood" effect. This wasn't just a great sci-fi/comic fan film, it was a great film all around. Having Favreau behind the controls on this one was genius, an avid fan, his direction through this film was masterful and kept us all so involved. Sometimes after a film when the door is left open for spin-offs and sequels, one can be a little worried that the orginal vision will be lost, but seeing the makings of more Iron-Man films and subsequently an Avengers film, I cannot wait for what these guys have in store next.

Wow! 2 hours of pure fun. Great writing. Great acting. Great directing. Great effects. This is the best superhero movie yet (although I may eat those words after I see Dark Knight). See it on the big screen---this is not something you want to wait for DVD.

I know it says I gave 4 stars but its more like 4 and a half. Of all the Marvel origin movies that have come out this one is the best. The cast is really what sells this movie. There wasn't as much action in this film as other Marvel films but you don't care because the cast is so good. The only thing holding it back from 5 stars for me was a weak soundtrack and an ending that seemed a little rushed. For how amazing the visual effects looked they should have shown them off with a more epic battle in the end.

My wife and I are avid movie goers. Ironman will do very well at the box office. The action and special effects are well done. The PG-13 rating is right on. There are graphic scenes of terrorized killings and children being threatened by guns. This could have been handled better in the movie but this is typical of Hollywood. All the stars performed well and we were surprised how well Jeff Bridges performs in a 'bad man' role.

This is an awesome film. Just enough emotion mixed with lots of action, humor and a great story line. RD, Jr. does a good job as a billionaire playboy who has a change of heart and GP is gorgeous as Miss Pepper Potts. Overall, a definite must-see and a great start to this summer's blockbuster itinerary.

These days it's all so commonplace for Hollywood to put out exaggerated films based on our beloved childhood heroes. I go to movies like these with little expectation and look forward to some of the wow special effects. Big deal.
What a shock!!! As I was watching Iron Man I had the distinct honor of watching a well written scipt play out in front of me. This storyline was from the heart, literally.
Robert Downey Jr. was brilliant. He was all to perfect for the part. I was also quite proud of Jeff Bridges.

This is by far the best movie of the year. I was very pessimistic to hear that Jon Favreau was directing but it was PHENOMENAL! It has the action of Transformers with the comedy of an Apatow film. Great all around! The story was excellent and the visual were even better. Robert Downey Jr. was flawless along with the rest of the cast.

Robert Downey Jr. did an amazing job - he made this movie. In my opinion, it was better than spiderman or any other super hero movie so far. The high tech gadgets, the humor, the action, it was all amazing! At the end of the movie, my first thought was that there better be another one coming! Although I am not familiar with the Marvel comic, so I cannot speak to the fidelity of the movie to the comic, Iron Man, was a terrific movie. Robert Downey Jr. and Jeff Bridges did an excellent job portraying the depth of the characters. Robert Downey Jr. did a fantastic job of playing a millionnaire weapons tycoon who gets a conscious in a believable way. The special effects in the movie are awe-some with great explosions and fantastic fires. The "romance" line leaves a little to be desired in that the romantic tension between Downey and Paltrow is hit or miss from scene to scene. Well worth seeing on the BIG SCREEN! Oh, and don't forget to sit through the credits, there's a cool snippet at the end.

Iron Man is fun, good entertainment that targets a teen movie audience. Iron Man is worth watching for the excellent special effects. Don't expect great plot or character development - it is based on a Marvel comic book after all. This is not Academy Award material worthy of 5 stars.
The story is slow to get off the ground, is fairly predictable and has inexplicable comic book plot devices (e.g., What is Tony Stark's technological savior after his capture by terrorists doing in a small village in Afghanistan? Why doesn't Tony just have the shrapnel removed from his chest after his rescue?) You also have to suspend disbelief about the technology that Tony uses (e.g., Tony's robotic AI assistants and totally automated assembly of the Iron Man suit in 5 hours while Tony runs out to a party.)
The acting was good, but the characters and their relationships were stereotypical Marvel fare. The script even makes a self-depricating reference to the formulaic tension in the semi-romance between the hero and his assistant. The movie's most interesting and humanized character was Tony's assistant, Pepper.
Iron Man was clearly written with a sequel in mind - the seondary villian survived to fight another day. It's a sequel that I'd definitely see.

The plot and character development is intriguing but thin. Iron Man looks cool but really doesn't do a lot. When it comes to rich guys using high tech toys to bring justice, I'll take Batman any day. I still recommend it as a good popcorn movie. See it, once.

I saw this movie twice in theaters, I liked it that much. The pacing was excellent, it didn't feel rushed like most comic movies do. The cast was perfectly selected. The action was badass and impressive, and the ending was perfect. I have absolutely nothing bad to say about this movie. I'm a comic book nerd and the small nods to us fanatics was the cherry on top. This movie comes complete with a shield agent, a hint at war machine, and a new version of jarvis. It was spectacular, and I know I'll be buying it when it comes out.
