I'll be honest, when I first saw the earliest trailer for Ironman, I was skeptical. To say the least. As a comic universe fan, there were simply too many ways to be disappointed... and only a few means to happy entertainment.
Fortunately, Jon Favreau has come through for us all. Ironman is a solid piece of entertainment... Action? Yes. Bad guys we love to hate? Of course. Characters you believe in or even like? Much tougher, but yes. While it could never masquerade as a terribly deep, soulful movie, it IS 100% well-written and executed entertainment for the masses. Best of all, you don't have to enjoy comic books to enjoy this movie. It also has the digitized effects we love to see, not to mention the smooth acting we ache for everytime we pay money to see a film, but give me a character I care about any day.

Being a fan of comic books and comic hero movies, this movie was espeically well received. The story line is fresh and involved today's current events (terrorist and unscrupulous business men who want to rule the world), the acting was first rate, the technolocy was awesome and futuristic with a sense of believability (Okay, maybe I just wanted to believe) What else are comic book heros for but for us to believe in them. The plot was fast enough to keep you on the edge of your seat while providing enough suspense to keep you wondering. The technology and the suit were 1st rate. Technology is finally catching up with the human imagination and the creativity of the mind to image the stuff of super heros. I enjoyed the move, and look forward to this franchise to bring more and engaging sequels to us movie goers. Bravo! Bravo! and once more Bravo!

This was one of the best comic book adaptations yet. Well written, perfect casting, thorough back story, and very engaging. Avoided the "Airwolf" or "Knight Rider" trap of making it all about the suit.
I can't wait for the sequel.

An exciting, action-packed movie with (believe it or not) a cool story and great acting. Robert Downey Jr. was perfect in his portrayal of Stark, and Gwyneth Paltrow gave the movie heart.

I always attend the superhero type movies with a sense that I'm going along for the family's benefit. If I was going to the movies for myself, I'd pick another type of film. This time I was pleasantly surprised. My 13 year old son and I thoroughly enjoyed Iron Man. I would not however suggest it for a younger child, and not just because of the poor morals suggested by Mr. Stark's lifestyle. The family next to us had three squirming boys ranging from a three year old [who eventually fell asleep] to a seven year old. For the little guys the movie was a little to long. I found Ironman to be intelligently written, amusing, and interesting. The two hours flew by, and I left thinking of several friends I wanted to encourage to go see it. We has a blast!

While not perfect, its still great entertainment. The story is strong enough to not be drown by all of the special effects, and its easy to follow. No dead ends in the plot, and, of course, the openers for a sequel. I would recommend seeing this in the theater due to its larger than life intensity. The special effects are flawless. Robert Downey Jr. does a great job as the hero, and Terrence Howard has a couple of shining moments as well. Jeff Bridges is out of his usual character, but is good none the less. Gwyneth Paltrow has never been on my favorites list as an actor, and her performance didnt change my mind. And if you want to see Samuel Jackson, wait untill the credits are done rolling. As comic book movies goes, not my favorite but right up there with Batman Begins and slightly above any of the X-Men movies. Probably on par with Spider Man 2.

They're pushing the bar way up on superhero movies. Bryan Singer really set a high standard with the first X Men movie, and for the most part, I've not been disappointed with anything since (except maybe some parts of Superman Returns).
This outing, we've got Iron Man.
The only bad thing I can say about this movie is that since it pretty much officially opens the summer movie season, it'll get lost in the mash before the first of June, and that's really too bad.
Because it's that good.
Robert Downey Jr. plays Tony Stark at first like a grown up brat who has all the toys and knows it. He drinks, womanizes, misses "important" corporate functions to play craps, and generally acts like a swaggering, arrogant jerk. And somehow, Downey makes this partial portrayal of the character not endearing (you're not supposed to like him at this point), but fun and interesting to watch.
Then, after being captured by terrorists and forced to become dependent on a sort of improvised life-support system, he begins to see the real fruits of his labours as the head of the world's largest arms manufacturer. His epiphany isn't a sudden light that appears inside his head, it's almost sneaky in its emergence. Bit by bit, you see Tony become sorry for what he's spent his life doing, and this is when you start liking him. In an ironic (pardon the word) twist, the more time he spends becoming the Iron Man we all know and love, the more human and humane he becomes.
The set piece in the Afghan village is a good example of this (you've seen the bit in the trailer where he shoots a tank, walks away and the tank explodes... that's just the start of it). His transformation from the swaggering jerk he'd been all his life to someone who feels regret that the products his company manufactures cause so much misery that he feels he has to do something about it is complete at this point.
For a comic book character, Downey's portrayal of Stark is so interesting and fun to behold that you don't mind that he doesn't actually spend a lot of time in the armour.
The rest of the performances are also uniformly good. Terrence Howard as James "Rhodey" Rhodes is the best friend and military liaison who feels somewhat betrayed by Stark when Tony decides he doesn't want to make weapons anymore, only to come around when he begins to discover Tony's true intentions. Gwyneth Paltrow is at once vulnerable, tough and even a little "girly" (in the right places), playing Tony's frequently exasperated executive assistant, Pepper Potts. And Jeff Bridges, obviously relishing the chance to play a villain, is great as Obadiah Stane. He starts out being Tony's closest pal and advisor, all the while maneuvering events in the background to get Tony out of the way so that he can take over Stark Industries. His motivation, a sense of betrayal by Tony, is a great jumping-off point for his turn from close friend to worst enemy, and more believable than the role really has a right to be.
Director Jon Favreau has done what few have done before, taken a bottle and captured lightning in it, and the end result is a fine blockbuster that delivers everything its trailers promised and more.
Go see it, you won't be disappointed.

At first I didn't think Downey could pull off the role, but knowing what I know about Tony Stark, I realized he would be perfect....and he was. He had the role down to a tee and the villain in the story made for a great plot. I like how even though you knew he would escape his initial capture, you didn't know when it would happen and that made for great suspense. As for the suit, I'm so glad they waited until now to do this film. It's so real it's like the government has it in storage somewhere. Overall, the cast was great, the flight and fight scenes were incredible, I loved the tie in with S.H.I.E.L.D. and the hint towards War Machine in the next film. Whatever happens, the main characters, Downey, Paltrow, and Howard, have to come back. I was not disappointed at all!

With all the hit and misses with comic book adaptations, I'm always a little nervous about seeing a comic based movie.
This was a very pleasant surprise. If you're a purist, don't go see the movie. There's been some updating and modernization of the origin of Iron Man (similar to the way Spider-Man got updated). If you can accept that updating, it's a terrific movie. It's got a tight plot. It drags just a tiny bit at first, but after the first 20 minutes it's a very good pace. I wish they let you do half-stars, I'd go for 4 and a half, not 5, but it's closer to 5 than 4. Worth the money. Stay through the final credits!

I'm not a big fan of super hero movies, but when I saw IRON MAN I was WOW'd!!! This movie was surprisingly FUNNY, action packed and has a very interesting and edge of your seat plotting!! I LOVED this movie and RDJ looks AMAZING!! He looks soooo sexy as any person playing a billion dollar play boy should look! I loved all the gadgets and toys (cars) in this movie. It makes you wish you were Gwyneth Paltrow for a few minutes!!! =) I would definately recommend this movie for ALL ages! I took my son who is 4 and he enjoyed it! It may be a little slow for the younger ones at 1st (war/ talking), but as soon as he becomes IRON MAN they will get into it!
**HINT** Be sure you stay after the credits for what I think is a SNEAK PEAK!!

Packed with action,but not lacking depth either.Marvel did a first rate job keeping mainly to the original story and casting was incredible.This movie kept me involved at all times and the 2 hours went by so very fast before you knew it it was done.Can't wait to see what they cook up for the sequel.

This was simply wonderful. Robert Downey Jr was a movie star in every sense of the word. He was charming, intense and obviously having the time of his life. The story moved at a great pace, slowing things down and letting us get to know the characters when necessary, and them moving forward at a breakneck pace when the action started. There were no extraneous plot threads that didn't make sense. No second villain. No over complicated origin. They didn't fall into any of the traps that superhero movies often fall prey to. I can't recommend this enough...

For the kids: Downey is a bachelor so there is a bed scene but no nudity.
Overall it was an awesome movie. Everything a superhero movie should be, makes you feel good to see the bad guys their share of hurt without being overly graphic. Desperately waiting for a sequel. You won't be disappointed.
2 hours long so get a large popcorn, candy and large soft drink and enjoy the movie. I did.

I have to admit, I do love action movies, however, this one was a little different. Robert Downey, Jr was so excellent playing this flawed and conflicted character, Iron man. He had no special powers except he was a genius. Special effects were spectacular but what I loved most was the depth of his character and how it evolves throughout the movie. Loved Jeff Bridges and Paltrow, however it was silly whe was wearing extremely high heels even when she was running from a villain.
