Simply stated, the movie meets or exceeds all of my expectations for this character on the big screen. Great casting, action and amazingly, they got it done in under an hour and fifteen minutes without leaving you feeling like it was too short. A must see! Even my daughter, who is not a comic fan and didn't care about seeing it was the first to give it two thumbs up at the end.

They could not have gotten a better Tony. Robert Downey Jr's natural wit, sense of timing and offhanded humor was perfectely suited for this character.

Iron Man is one of the top 3 comic book adaptations because the producers focused on action, dialogue and tension, and didn't flood us with endless backstory (a la Bruce Wayne and his parents) or Freudian character angst (a la.. Bruce Wayne and his parents).
Let's face it. The reason comic books are popular is because its about guys with powers, or cool suits, flying and fighting. And Iron Man gives us that.
Through crisp writing and Robert Downey Jr.'s winning performance, we get all we ever need to know about Tony Stark in the first ten minutes. This clears the producers to focus in on current story (Stark and his personal war on terror and weapons proliferation) and leaves plenty of "Man, that is cool!!" action.
It also gives us comic/movie-doms most likeable protagonasist in Tony Stark (Iron Man). Stark, is a rake, a playboy, and an arrogant man-child, but Downey makes him engaging from the first frame. It's a refreshing change from the soul-searching, morose comic book protagonists we've been force fed in the Batman or Spider-Man franchises.Tony Stark is having fun, and as a result, we are too.
Director Jon Favreau, a fan of the Iron Man comics, also focuses in on the technology and process of building Iron Man, in which Stark, invents, tinkers and eventually perfects his suit. Stark looks like he's having a ball doing it. As a result, so do we, as we're watching it. Iron Man even goes as far as to make the "science" of a man in flying armor, plausible.
Jeff Bridges is oily and charming as the corporate heavy. Gwyneth Paltrow and Robert Downey Jr. have a likeable chemistry and their scenes have an improvised feel to them. Terrence Howard is solid as Col. James Rhodes, Stark's and Iron Man's confidant.
The only place where Iron Man falters is in the climactic fight scene, which lacks for emotional immediacy. This may have more to do with the fact that in his Iron Man suit, Stark becomes less human, and we feel we're just watching two CGI objects going at it.
Or it maybe that with his subtle performance, Bridges' villian isn't despicable or scary enough to feel all that threatening.
Other than that .. Iron Man is practically bulletproof

I was very satisfied when I left the theater. I felt like I got my money's worth on the tickets and the $45 I spent at the concession. We were all entertained. I found it to be ok for my kids teen's to 8 years of age; however my 8 year old is not sentative to guins and shooting. There were a few bad words that I could have done without, such as a D and B word, but feel it is a good movie for my kids, we just discussed that after the movie. For your kids, read other review and judge for yourself. Every kid and what they can take is different. NOW what I did not think was appropriate for my kids, was the previews before it. PG-13 just has too broad of a movie selection and if you have a way of getting a good seat, but having your kids miss a few previews, you will be happy you did.

The accuracy to the comic book series will please comic book lovers.
The special effects and action will please EVERYONE. Robert Downey Jr. gives the best performance of his career in a spot on portrayal of Tony Stark.
The only down side to this movie is that we are going to have to wait for the sequel. For those that do not wait in the theater through all the credits, you are missing a VERY important part of the film...

i was actually very impressed with this movie. usually when people talk so highly about a movie it always isn't what you expect but this movie was different. it was funny and filled with action and it was worth spending the money on and waiting in the lines to go and see it.

I wondered going into the movie weather or not it would live up to the hype or if robert downey jr. could pull off a character like tony stark, my questions were answered within the first 10 minutes. This movie has tons of action, great special effects, excellent acting all around and a "can't wait for the next one" aura about it.

My husband and I took our two boys ages 5 and 7 to see Iron Man and everyone loved it. The sound and visual effects are top notch and we even said we would go see it again. I would definitely recommend this to everyone, but make sure you stay until after the credits as there is a surprise for you at the very end.

I took my son and in all honesty I didn't know what I was going to watch. I arrived early and we watched the movie. It was great, I really enjoyed it. Robert Downey Jr. played wonderfully in it. So did Gweneth Paltrow. I would see it again.

Too long, slow developing and extremely predictable. As an old school Iron Man fan I was disappointed in the movie and baffled about the hype.
I went to the matinee movie with my 16 year old son on his birthday. I though it might be a good chance for us to kick off the day with a little fun and excitement.
The plot took so long to get moving that I was tempted to leave and take a break! My son fell asleep in the middle of the movie...before noon.
Downey Jr. was great, Howard was mis-casted - stilted and unable to make his role solidify.
Way too much political stereotyping garbage over the Afganistan scenes...could probably cut 2/3rds of those scenes and still keep the movie plot intact...they go nowhere.
Paltrow was so shallow in the role you didn't know whether to like her or hurl. The effects were great...

This latest comic book to screen adaptation was better than most in that they didn't try to make a charicature of the main character. Robert Downey Jr. actually did a decent job and Jeff Bridges is great as the villain. Gwyneth Paltrow is wasted as the female interest. The movie does tend to drag on a bit as the technical jargon goes on and on during the setup to him becoming Ironman. They could have edited aoubt 10 minutes out of the movie and the pace would have been better. The animation does not look cartoonish and altogether it was an entertaining film.

One of the best action movies I have seen in a long time. Robert Downey Jr is HOT in this movie. He and his assistant (Gwyneth Patrow)just light the screen on fire with their karma. There is plenty of laughter as well as action and really cool gadgets in this film. Even my 10 year old son enjoyed it. We hope there is a second film.

I've been disappointed by a lot of the comic book movies as of late, especially Ghost Rider since it was my favorite comic growing up. I have to say, they did an outstanding job with Iron Man.
Robert Downy Jr. played the role to a hilt and was successful. The action was great. The story was great. The movie seemed to drag just a bit in a few places. Still, well worth the wait and lived up to the hype.

I didn't know anything about Iron Man. My husband is the comic book reader. So he told me a little about it. I didn't expect a whole lot from the movie, but it was great. It was fun, exciting and well put together. I would definitely recommend someone to go see it. You don't have to be a comic book fan to enjoy this one. The story line is great.

This was a great superhero movie from one of my favorite childhood characters. The fight scenes were good and short, the story and characters were well done, and the hi-tech / CG was outstanding. It was a little tough seeing American soldiers dying in the desert, but if nothing else, it brought realism to the current war. At the least, the movie-makers decided to rely on implication instead of gore, which I applaude. I'll probably see this one again.

You can definitely tell that Stan Lee is back at the helm!! This is one amazing movie. Robert Downey Jr. played the part of Tony Stark better than anyone could have. The cast of characters is amazing and the fx are incredible. I would recommend this movie to everyone. A movie worth seeing several times! Congrats MARVEL you've done it!!

I picked up my first comic book when I was a child and it was Iron Man issue number 73. Not a real winner in retrospect but, a lot was going on that allkuded to thing IM had been dealing with over the previous months and I became instantly intrigued. The whole backstory of Tony Stark as alcoholic and genius as a man with a fragile body because of his heart yet a suit of armor more powefful than entire army... it is the very essense of a good story. Favreau did a superb job at integrating the necessary elements of a rock solid story that synchs a modern day real world scenario with the traditional comic hero and the final product is simply outstanding. Go see this flick! A comic book geek like myself or a neophyte like my girlfriend will both enjoy the ride. Well worth seeing in the theaetr as so few films are nowadays.
