This movie was awesome! I thought it would be fun as an opener to the summer, but didn't expect much. It wasn't really over the top, but instead had great balance. Really fun movie and I will probably need to own the DVD.

One of the best superhero movies I've ever seen! I saw it at the Cinerama last night and thought it was fantastic! I went into the movie thinking it looks cool and I hope I'm not wasting $11.25 on a movie. Definitely not a waste!! Funny, entertaining, and pure awesomeness. What I enjoyed the most is how seamless the CG and real life came together. Definitely a winnner in my book. I would see it again in theaters and probably buy it. A must-see! My faith in superhero movies has been restored after the downfall of X-3 and Spiderman 3.

This movie is great fun from end to end. The pace is always brisk and the timing, excellent. Although the sound engineers did a sophomoric job of making it easier to pick out all of the great one-liners, it only seemed like their hearing must be infinitely better than the average viewer. I'm sure that someone considered this future reason to be consistently backtracking on the DVR to be some kind of dramatic nuance, albeit an exceedingly irritating interruption for the next couple of lines to have to hear half of the audience keep repeating the question 'what did they say..?' . I personally feel that this individual is an idiot, but then, I am just the average viewer. Robert Downey Jr. has risen, again. I hope and pray that, for his sake as well as that of other talent-starved movie lovers, he keep his general personal criteria in a neat pile ad infinitum. He pulls this off with the kind of aplomb that demands another viewing, and soon. Gwyneth Paltrow threw in some unexpectedly deep and deft acting chops that we rarely get to see someone use to seemingly prove the axiom, 'there are no small parts, only small actors'. She owned the role. Jeff Bridges was a sort of weak spot, always predictable and apparently going for the 'most likely to be mistaken for Chris Kristofferson' nods. He made for a sufficient conflict character, however. The special effects were top-notch; no 'Shrek-on-steroids' animation this time around. Again, the pace and comedic timing made this a true joy to spend 2 hrs 6 mins and exorbitant ticket prices worth the effort to sneak in your own treats so as to avoid going into bankruptcy paying the saw buck for a medium bag of burnt popcorn and a bottle of water as well as providing the Texas-Arab juice being relatively thirstily guzzled by even your average Prius. If you only get to see one in this summer of hard times, you could do a lot worse than Iron Man.

I saw this movie at midnight and can honestly say it is one of the greatest movies of the superhero genre, on par with Batman Begins although an entirely different style of movie-making. The film contains enough to entertain new fans while tossing in tantalizing hints for the longtime comic readers, which I won't name here but will leave a real fan smiling and clapping. The extra scene at the end of the credits is honestly the best post credits scene I've ever seen, and I've stayed post-credits for all three Pirates movies. Robert Downey Jr. is perfect for the role of Tony Stark, and makes you love and hate him at all the right times. Gwyneth Paltrow is a bit weak at times, as is Jeff Bridges, but overall that's due to their dialogue not their performances. Stan Lee's cameo is his best one yet, and the performance of Terrence Howard stands out as one of the best next to Downey Jr's. If you have a chance to see this movie, please do, you will not regret it.

Iron Man was awesome. It has to be one of the best movies I have ever seen
that portray a Superhero. Downey Jr., did a great job and the next two
films will be even better! I wish the action would have been more but
the film was written quite well and the explanation of the main
character and the man he comes to be, is off to an excellent beginning.

The movie starts off with what eventually turns Tony Stark into Iron Man. The origin is nicely adapted from the comic (albeit with a few modern day twists a la Spiderman) and is generously paced. This is the best origin/Marvel movie since the original Spiderman. Robert Downey Jr. plays an excellent Tony Stark and even War Machine gets a little reference.

As with most first movies in a new comic book movie franchise Iron Man is an origin story, and with that usually comes moments of tedium as everything is laid out of the average movie-goer. While this process is repeated for Iron Man it never feels like you are sitting through several segements of set up, and I think the reason for this is the cast and the director.
Jon Favreau has already displayed an apt touch when it comes to directing scenes filled with dialouge, Swingers obviously somes to mind; and when combined with Downey's flippant charm the effect is nothing short of brilliant.
Downey excells as Tony Stark, the man who is smarter then you, richer then you, better at everything then you and yet you still feel for him when he stumbles and even more amazing you root for him to succed. Bridges' is quite simply brillant as Stone. Paltrow knocks her performance out of the park, but the only other cast member who can shaare screen time with Downey and not be completely overshadowed is Terrence Howard. Howard is as near perfect was one could hope for, and the hints laid forth for future movies makes his role all the more enjoyable.

Yes, the pun is definitely intended, as this grade-A, summer blockbusting, popcorn flick does it's best to launch Mr. Downey into the rarified stratosphere of A-list action-adventure superheroes.
The plot is this: Billionaire playboy, Tony Stark, makes a sizable living creating incredible weapons of mass destruction, but gets his come-up pence when he is attacked and kidnapped by bad-guys that use the very weapons he creates. Nearly mortally wounded, and forced to create weapons for his captors, said playboy creates the ultimate weapon to effect his escape, and vows to destroy his creations that have fallen into the wrong hands.
Mr. Downey does a fabulous rendering of bazillionaireTony Stark, the freewheeling, womanizing, morally aloof heir to a multinational, military-industrial weapons conglomerate, Stark Industries. To say that Mr. Stark is wildly indifferent to the woes of the common man would be the understatement of the year, based on the astonishing lifestyle that is evidenced by some of the sets that were created for this movie. From the sprawling, sensual, high-tech, cliff-side mansion, the private customized jumbo-jet, and the warehouse-sized garage full of motorcycles and sports cars, everything about Tony Stark and this movie bows to the whims of ultra-technology taken to its logical extremes. Mr. Stark has gadgets that put James Bond’s Q to shame, and Mr. Stark’s world of Human-Artificial Intelligence interface, Rock-Star like notoriety, and obligatory carnal acquisitions are the stuff of techno-geeks’ and comic-book nerds' wet dreams. Yes, Robert Downey Jr. does succeed in making mutant, uber-geek, hyper-genius quite glamorous and cool.
It doesn’t hurt that Marvel Entertainment hired a director that actually might have read an Ironman comic book in his lifetime. Jon Favreau, most noted for his tongue in cheek romantic comedies, and as Ben Affleck’s side-kick in another Marvel movie, Daredevil, takes the reins and ably delivers the first knockout blow of the summer. Major nods go to Mr. Favreau’s vision, Lucasfilm Industrial Light and Magic special effects wizardry, and the army of CGI artists, and puppeteers that actually create the very credible illusion of the Ironman armor. Such attention to intricate detail easily a rival, if not surpasses the wonderful robotic limbs of Doctor Octopus that were seen in Spiderman 2. Mr. Favreau also casts himself in the movie as one of Mr. Stark’s bodyguards, Hap Hogan.
The plot seems a bit sluggish in parts, but never dull or uninteresting. Robert Downey Jr. is in just about every scene, but it appears that Mr. Downey was born to portray Tony Stark and the sleek, shining golden knight, Ironman. The action sequences are fast and frenetic, the comedic turns aptly placed, and the operatic villainy of Jeff Bridges’ Obediah Stane quite well received to produce the next heir apparent to the title of “best comic-book movie ever” in Marvel’s library of comic books brought to the screen.
The only possible draw-back to such a very handsome essay would be the short two-hour running time, and the underuse of some of Hollywood’s heavy hitters.
Gwyneth Paltrow is a very comely Pepper Pots, Mr. Starks major domo, but seems to have little to do in this outing. The attempt to create some sort of love interest between Pepper Pots, and Tony Stark falls noticeably short of the mark.
Terrance Howard’s, Major James Rhodes, although a necessary character to remain true to the Ironman comics, is almost seen as an after-thought in the movie. Mr. Howard seems just a bit envious of not playing a bigger part in this obvious box-office rain-maker.
Jeff Bridges does bring just the right touch of malevolence that is expected in such comic-book movie fare, but he doesn’t get the opportunity, or necessary screen time to flesh out the character of Obediah Stane.
Finally, although credited with being in the cast, if you’re looking for Samuel L. Jackson, you’ll just have to wait for it. Mr. Jackson’s only part to play in this matter is to offer a hint of things to come. There’s no telling what Marvel Entertainment plans to assemble, hopefully, in the very near future.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

This movie does a good job giving you the background on "Iron Man". Of course the story is updated from the Vietnam era to Afganistan and there are a few others changes but overall Favreau did an okay job with the "Iron Man" story. But the movie just doesn't give the viewer enough "Iron Man" in action. The movie starts with a bang but really drags through the middle. Jeff Bridges is marginal as the villian (I just kept thinking of "the Dude" everytime he said something). Robert Downey Jr. is wonderful as Tony Stark. Did anyone doubt he would be? Paltrow plays Pepper well and Howard is okay as Rhody. Overall I would recommend it, but I hope the studios make a sequel. The viewer deserves to see more of the "Iron Man" in action with S.H.I.E.L.D. Overall all I would give it a grade of B.

At first I had a tough time trying to believe Robert Downey Jr. was my beloved Iron Man from my youth (my favorite Marvel hero) BTW. But from the first scene of this film Downey grabs your attention and keeps you riveted. The casting in this movie was stellar, Jeff Bridges turns in one of the most diabolically sinister evil villain roles I have every enjoyed viewing. Terrence Howard brings trust, loyalty, friendship and warmth to an otherwise dry military part, he killed it! Gwyneth turns in an outstanding performance and really captivates you with her conflicted dichotomy of her situation and relationship to Stark played by Robert Downey, Jr.. Amazing performance, amazing film.
I love this film. The CG is mind blowing and unlike Transformers this film fills your eyeballs with tons of details to how the body armor is completely installed. This is one of the greatest CG events ever released.
The technical effects in this movie alone make it one to grab two copies of on DVD, (one to watch and one to pass on to the grandkids).
This is going to become one of my all time favorites. Thank you once again Stan Lee.
Five Stars, Big Thumbs Up and yes my nine year old loved it two pieces. He was glued to the screen and loved every bit of it. He is the only reason I went to this early first showing of this film, he was jumping out of skin in anticipation.
I will be seeing this movie over and over again. Enjoy!!!!!

The influx of superhero movies this decade seems to gain more steam as we get further into it. The fact that most of them are highly successful doesn’t hurt. But there are only a handful that can transcend their genre and genuinely be called great films. Superman: The Movie, Spiderman, & Batman Begins are a few in that elite class. Iron Man is not as commercial or as well known as those 3 characters, but it has a uniqueness about it that separates it from the others. Superman is the quintessential superhero, Batman & Spiderman are loved because they are men who happen into their fate. Iron Man is the anti-hero that many do not expect.
Robert Downey Jr., has had plenty of trouble in his life. This helps him in the role of Tony Stark/Iron Man. Stark has demons, plenty of them. He’s a womanizing alcoholic who had a warmonger for a father. Downey’s problems make him the perfect cast choice here. Jeff Bridges is Starks right-hand man Obadiah Stane and he carries the role with a grit I did not think was in him anymore. Bridges does his best work when it is obvious he’s having fun because when he’s having fun he is completely in his role. He overacted a bit in some scenes, but I actually think that helped, rather than the opposite. Gwyneth Paltrow has some great performances and some that make you want to rip something apart. She is so convincing here as Pepper Potts (Tony Stark’s personal assistant), I wanted to be Stark myself. She's loyal, trusting, can be trusted, and cares. That's a pedigree any man would want. Terrance Howard is Stark’s best friend Colonel Jim Rhodes. Being in the military is an advantage to Stark, but that advantage takes some interesting turns throughout the film. Besides Stark, Rhodes is the most dynamic character in the film and it was a joy to watch him. The supporting cast, while not well-known did their part to make this film work. Shaun Toub as Yinsen was what many of us hope to be. Leslie Bibb as the annoying reporter was just that and she did it well. The cast as an ensemble bring a depth to Iron Man’s universe that could have easily never been showcased. Ghost rider, Hulk, and other superhero films failed because of this. The character development, depth, and creativity all helped bring this film alive and made it ‘real.’ When a superhero film feels real, that is when it sits among the best because we the audience connect with it.
The film had many good qualities that made it better and better. The screenplay was amazing. With no less than four writing the script, it easily could have gotten diluted and weak. But it was anything but. There was a terrific amount of unexpected wit, stagnant one-liners and corn was left out, loyalty to the origin story (as far as I know of it) was in tact, and the drama necessary for such a film was present, but not over boding. The screenplay left it open-ended for a possible sequel, but it was also strong enough to also be an ending. Either way it was effective. The direction by Jon Favreau is pretty tight and rarely loose. And ironically enough, when it is loose, the acting carry the scene so well that it is barely noticeable and the score sometimes drifts you beyond it. The score has no major themes and isn’t up to Williams’ Superman by any means, but it is subtle and very effective, which is what Iron Man really needed. A sweeping score like a Superman or a brooding one like Howard & Zimmer’s Batman films would bring a cheese to the film that it really needed to avoid. Subtlety but engaging was perfect.
There were a few characters that were stereotypical to our world and weren’t anything on the scale of a Luthor, Joker, or Green Goblin. In that way, it is easier to identify with them as dangerous people, but it is also a two-edged sword as some viewers may not want to see real life villains and would prefer escapism. To go further, they really weren’t all that menacing in this reality either-dangerous yes, but pure evil-I never really saw that much.
Iron Man isn’t a run-of-the-mill superhero and the film is not one to take lightly. The anti-hero abounds in many of us and it is a treat to see a man that is so fallible make a strong difference … even if that man and said difference isn’t perfect. All the elements were put together so well, that it is impossible to not place it among the elite films in the superhero genre. It is so well done that one may actually realize that it is one of the best films this year and certainly starts the Summer of 2008 off with a bang that many thought only Indiana Jones could bring.
Thumbs Up!

I am happy to say it lived up to every bit of hype it has had since we saw the first sneak trailer. Marvel has once agian made a great movie adaptation. Downey is Stark, he doesn't just play him, he is him. Special effects are fan-freaking-tastic, and the humor will make you laugh as much as the action will make you awe. All characters are give a propper treatment and the movie just keeps you laughing or cheering. In the end I was left begging for more. And stay still the end of the credits for a little extra.
Yes, I recommend this movie.
