This is a great action movie and not just because of the amazing stunts and effects, but because it is SMART! This story has a charismatic genius at the center of it and you do not doubt for one minute that Tony Stark is anything less than that due to the terrific Robert Downey, Jr., the clever script and immaculate directing by Jon Favreau. If you love action movies Iron Man is a MUST!

Excellent movie! Exciting the whole way through. Amazing special effects. Solid plot. Robert Downey Jr. is stellar! Paltrow and Brigdes also excellent in this. My husband dragged me to this one as this is not my favorite genre, but it ended up being one of the best movies I've seen in a long time. Highly recommend this one! I would not take young ones to this movie, however. Be forwarned that there is a rather brief yet lusty suggestive scene , terrorits who beat up a child's father in front of his wife and children, people lined up and assasinated, plenty of heavy gunfire, and some torture scenes. I would not recommend for children under 13 or for sensitive children.

Overall: Good super-hero action film. Worth seeing in theaters. Not perfect with heavy development of the Stark character at the expense of making other characters multidimensional. Rushed ending
The details: Robert Downey Jr is a good fit for Stark and Terrence Howard does a good job as the straight man friend. Jeff Bridges is hard to make into a bad guy, but his weird door-in-the-floor chia pet facial hair molds well into an evil doer/power monger face elongating look. Gwyneth Paltrow acts well as the Moneypenny like Pepper -- we feel though that a stronger woman counterpart would have suited the all powerful Stark. The fundamental problem with Iron Man is that Stark is so overpowering and overdeveloped (he is really not that complicated) that we don't get to know the other characters. In particular, the bad guys are one dimensional (evil industry and power hungry terrorist), so Iron Man does not benefit from an interest raking nemesis like Magneto in the X-Men series. Finally, the end seems a bit slapped together for the 2 hr movie. This probably reflects the fact that the bad guys were just bad and all there was to do was kill them -- even still there seemed to be questions about the action (e.g., where did the bad guy get a precision instrument to extract Stark's power supply if his engineers could not start to build one; why was Iron Man spared in the final explosion and not the bad guy?).

Downey is back and flying high! Great show and very entertaining. Jeff Bridges is bearly recognizable (pun intended!) and also masterful in his supporting role. Definitely recommend!

It was nice going back to my childhood while watching Iron man. But better than anything was how well the movie was made and being able to check all the rich details they put in the movie. It was everything I imagined and much more. It's a very nice and well played movie with good actors, lots of action, fun, and some romance, so a very good combination. It is a must see movie.

I knew this would be good when I saw trailers from last year's San Diago Comicon. Totally faithful to the spirit of the original character. Loved the villians and the Nick Fury/ S.H.I.E.L.D./Avengers teaser at the end made it worth sitting through the lengthy credits. Last, I understand Tony Stark will make a cameo in the upcoming Hulk movie. I smell SEQUEL!

I went into this movie a little skeptical. Super hero movies are not always what they are thought to be, so I was in a wait and see mode.
This movie was great in opinion. The story, characters and overall concept was right on the money. I don't know much about the Iron Man comics, but I do know that Robert Downey IS Tony Stark for me. He filled the role brilliantly. He brought comedy, class and believability to character. The effects were top notch as well. I cannot wait for this to come to BluRay. It is already on my pre-order list. If you like hero movies, go see this one. It does not disappoint at all.

This was the best comic book movie i have ever seen. Excellent script, great actors (and i had my doubts about Downey, but boy was i wrong). I saw it 3 times and i love it more and more each time.

I had heard that the second half of the movie began to turn into a standard issue superhero movie, and I have to agree. But the first half was great - it didn't feel like a superhero film... the character arcs were very well played out. Downey was a spectacular choice and the cast delivered very original performanced. Also hats off to ILM, once again. Great plants and pay-offs, overall very satisfying, shame though they seemed like they ran out of money by the end of it - the last 15 minutes had very poor coverage. And for some reason, despite being very entertained throughout, walking out of the theater I had very little interest in seeing it again. A good film though. ****

Was not expecting this movie to be as good as it was. Recently most of the "Hero" type movies are fairly predictable, but the acting in this movie really made a difference. Robert Downey Jr. played an impeccable performance. If you haven't seen it, it's worth the time.

Iron Man was a very exciting and action packed film with some great acting leads. Robert Downey, Gwynneth Paltrow and Jeff Bridges were superb in their roles. Especially Downey who absolutely had the character nailed. His performance was amazing. Good to see him back in the saddle again. This was a movie most could enjoy - a good summer flick with surprise,surprise - good acting!

This movie is a great movie to go to with the guys.
The action scenes are great.
The villians are evil and you love seeing them get their just deserts.
Jeff Bridges and Gwyneth Paltrow are also excellent in their roles, but lets face it:
Our hero is supposed to be Iron Man. All the babes go for him. He does marvelous and fantastic things.
Take a date to a different movie. Take your sons to this one.
I've seen it 3 times. It's fun.

Iron Man deserves its commercial success and critical acclaim. It is well cast, well acted, well written, and fast paced. Enough action and tech to win over men, but not too much to turn off women. Add an outstanding high energy sound track, the well-timed use of flashbacks, impressive cinematography, and an appealing pro-American hero. The result is a real winner that will appeal to guys and gals of all ages. A wonderful summer film for the big dark room. You'll love it. Tony Stark is Iron Man!

I thought that this was one of the better superhero films to come out in awhile. The transformation of Robert Downey Jr.'s character from a high rolling weapons manufacturer to a socially conscious hero was believable. He seems as much surprised about his machines abilities as he is confident in his own work. The action is good, the story is solid and the special effects are not so "over-the-top" to be cheesy.

I loved almost everybit of this movie (except for the kids who kept kicking my seat and the other one who kept running around the movie theatre). Though at times it seemed to lag a little bit. the rest movie was perfect. the action mixed well with comedy like independence day and transformers. Has the potential to be the summer movie

I felt like I was dragging my wife to this movie kicking and screaming, but 3/4 of the way through she said, "This is a good movie." I was shocked, she fell asleep in two of the Spiderman movies and yawned through Batman begins if that tells you anything.
This was a good role for Downey, it was also fun seeing Bridges in this light.
Take your wife and go see it!

I enjoyed the movie. The characters were all great. I probably should not have gone to see it the morning after I saw Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull because I didn't think it was as good as Indy but I definitely enjoyed it.

Outrageous - Updated - relevent to the times - the best action movie I have seen since Transformers. All of the actors including extra's did an outstanding job. GO!GO!GO! and stay until the end of the credits.

A great action movie with an actual plot! What a concept! A funny summer movie that is thought provoking. We took our twelve-year-old daughter and she enjoyed the movie and we discussed some of the plot lines on the way home. The acting is great as well as the special effects. Robert Downey, Jr. was the perfect choice for Tony Stark. You definitely get your money's worth with this movie.
