Apparently, Woody Allen can do no wrong - at least that is what the professional critics must believe, because this movie got glowing reviews and it is A-W-F-U-L! Moviegoers BEWARE. This movie was so superficial in its telling of what could have been a terrific story. Woody Allen's ridiculous, outdated stereotypes - the castrating female love-interest (making it okay for the protagonist to kiss others), her ridiculous, conservative American parents, the buffoon she prefers - it's all so trite. The historically significant characters from 1920s Paris have flash and no substance: at every turn, Owen Wilson's character is meeting some celebrity or another - it is beyond cheesy. Little cameos of great actors like Adrien Brody hamming it up in caricature, "Dal-i! Dal-i! Dal-i!" was a waste of his talent and my time. Add to that the intellectual name-dropping of any and every artist without any context and the whole experience leaves you flat. Woody Allen's comprehension of the cultural significance of these authors and artists is so pedantic ( to use one of his overused terms in the movie) that it reveals, in fact, how little Allen respects the enduring work they created. It is a visually stunning view of Paris - thanks to the cinematographer - and Marion Cotillard is truly lovely. Don't waste your time on this film; it is not worthy of being grouped with Match Point, Crimes & Misdemeanors or Hannah & Her Sisters which were each terrific stories of fully formed characters of depth with interesting stories to tell.
No, I do not recommend this movie.

This is a GREAT movie. As it all ends, you cannot help but sit at the edge of your seat - even if you've read the seventh book and know all of the major plot points, this film is visually stunning, action-packed and incredibly emotional. What this adaptation lacks in detailed content (due to time constraints), it makes up for with brilliant special effects; true Harry Potter fans will find this film as satisfying and poignant as the book.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Jay Chou is the BEST part of this movie. It has some funny dialogue; but the story is anemic. The PG-13 rating is lenient considering how much violence and bad languague is in this film - they don't use the "F" word but other than that they use every word they can ad nauseum. I'm all for a great fight sequence (Jay Chou), or even a whole bunch of them, but at a PG-13 movie, I don't want to see bodies impaled, limbs sticking out of the crash site, etc. It was gratuitous and even worse, artless.
This is one of the best of the series. While you have to have seen the previous movies to know what's happening as the movie begins, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince has more balance between the dark epic battle and the light humor of Harry's world.
This is a great action movie and not just because of the amazing stunts and effects, but because it is SMART! This story has a charismatic genius at the center of it and you do not doubt for one minute that Tony Stark is anything less than that due to the terrific Robert Downey, Jr., the clever script and immaculate directing by Jon Favreau. If you love action movies Iron Man is a MUST!
This movie was the typical wedding chick-flick. There are no surprises here. Everybody in it, everywhere they are and everything they do is beautiful - which can be fun enough when you need an escape. It is definitely NOT a classic like When Harry Met Sally.
