Yes - You will extract some laughs from "Extract"

Bateman, Affleck, Simmons, Kunis .... the whole cast was very good. Several big out loud funny moments, many snicker-giggle moments and a few "let me think about this" moments make "Extract" a worthy film to view in a theater. First half was a bit better than the last half in terms of editing and pacing. The final 30 minutes did drag a bit. Director-writer Judge does here what he is known for doing so well .... showing smart & dumb people getting caught up in circumstance and making stupid decisions ... thus creating a human mousetrap of funny consequences. Rent it a couple of months from now if you miss it in theater.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Gamer has Game - See it!

Exceeded my rather low expectations. Gerard Butler is really best in these action roles where he must fight against impossible odds for the future of country, glory and/or family. I was fascinated by the undertone throughout the movie that is really a knock against the "gamer mentality" and the "Second City" virtual lifestyle. This is smart, well-acted, crisply edited movie that flies right along. It is a morality tale - told well and jam-packed with many quality actors that you will recognize in roles that add nice seasoning to the film. The biggest negative for me was the over-done frenetic camera-work during several scenes. Intense - not for the younger kiddos.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

It's Really All About a Psychopathic Puzzle Writer

It is just sad that Sandra Bullock (arguably the screen's currently most gifted physical female comedian) chooses to put forth this kind of "schlock". Anyone would be scared to death of the "obsessive, bi-polar, psycho-monster stalker persona" she portrays in the main character. It seems that the whole movie is devoted to trying to humanize & justify the craziness of Bullock's character .... unsuccessfully at the end I might add. I really think it is time for Sandra Bullock to return to a high impact, character-driven drama role (remember Speed?) & then pick a much more dimensional & subtle comedic role. If not she may well join the likes of Eddie Murphy & Steve Martin & others that simply diluted their "brand" too much...too early.
No, I do not recommend this movie.

Carriers could have been "Scarriers"...skip it

This disease-apocalypse movie could have been so much better. The actors were okay but all under-served by an infantile script and dialogue, sloppy editing, gigantic plot holes and even bigger leaps of logic. An 84 minute movie that was 60 minutes too long. Virtually anything you do will be time & money better spent. My advice - keep your derrieres away from "Carriers".

Cold Souls is One Cool Movie - See it!

A great "little" movie about the human condition. We want everything to be convenient ....so why not find a way to eliminate our soul (or at least 95% of it....) when it seems to be "bugging us too much". For the answer - see this movie. Bravo to writer-director Barthes, actors Giamatti & Stratharin ...and the whole production team. They got everything just right! If the Oscars were really about talent then Giamatti would be nominated for best actor....let's not hold our breath - sadly. This one lands firmly in TheMovieRhino's Top 10 for 2009! Don't miss it!

Slasher p*rn at it's boring worst...don't go...

Rob Zombie has done it. He has cured me of my incessant urge to see this type of move with the hope that something unique and creative will appear. Nothing here but a crazed, satanic killer slashing and grunting his way through this movie "jumping out" at live bodies from a few feet away (they never seem to see him - even in wide open spaces) & hacking away at them until they are no longer live bodies. There is simply nothing here but blood spatter combined with incomprehensible leaps of logic. Boring trash. I'm cured! No more will I spend time & money on this waste of both.

Hopefully the final Final Destination!

How does an 82 minute movie feel too long? When it repeats an over-used theme, without anything new to capture your interest. This series is very tired and needs to be "put to rest". It avoids the 1 star basement rating only because of it's 3-D effects which are occasionally gruesomely imaginative. This means that about 10 minutes of the movie are interesting in a 3-D "how many ways can people be killed" kind-of a way. If the theater charged 10% of their regular price to see that 10 minutes that would be more appropriate. If you are going out for some entertainment don't let this film be your "final destination".

Taking Woodstock - Near Great

An almost perfect effort by Ang Lee to take the big story of Woodstock and boil it down to the small piece of fate with it's many thin threads that led up to it. Interesting to make the first half of the movie almost without any music and then begin putting music in the far background for the last half. I felt a bit "cheated" near the end to not hear at least one of the legendary performers clearly...if only for 1 minute. Also was disappointed by the g*y theme being so dominant. It's distracting and unnecessary. Despite these weaknesses - a worthy effort!
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Adam - A Star That Burns Bright in The Ebony Night

No hesitation in placing "Adam" in TheMovieRhino's Top 10 for 2009 (thus far). A crisply edited, perfectly acted, well-filmed story that could easily have turned into a maudlin, mish-mash of manipulative milarky ....but it does not. Thanks primarily to director/writer Mayer and his lead actors (Dancy & Byrne) we get a beautiful little masterpiece that touches the heart, expands the mind and lets the light of our better angels glow over our cinematic souls. Bravo, bravo....bravo! I can only hope we have more films of this quality before the end of this year! Please! Trust the Rhino - this is one worth seeing in theater and, later, buying for your home collection to re-visit from time to time.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

See "Shorts" if......

.....you are a 10 year old boy (or fall within 3 years of 10 on either side).....or you are an adult with guardianship of one or more boys in that age range and wish to take in a film with said charges.....or an adult who can view the movie from the perspective of the genre it represents. If you do not fall into any of the above categories of movie-viewer then please don't swap your hard-earned money for a seat in a theater that is playing "Shorts". Even if you do fall into the category of viewer that might appreciate this film it will not be seen as a great movie. Okay to wait and rent this one later as well.
Yes, I recommend this movie.
