My fiance and I went and saw this, and while we were the only childless couple in the theater, this movie was worth it. It's got great characters,excellent scriptwriters, and GREAT animators. They manage to play with sarcasm and slight movements that made even a dragon seem to have recognizable emotions. It's obviously not super scary, as most 6 year olds managed to get through it. I'm probably going to buy it on DVD when it comes out.

We took all five of our kids, ages 4 to 18. They all loved it, and I would even go see it again. I wish we had seen it in 3D, but I mistakenly bought the wrong tickets, and we saw the 2D version. It is one of the best movies we have seen in a long time!

I saw this movie with my 14 and 16 year olds, and we all had a good time. This movie isn't Up; it's not that serious. It's just a lot of fun for 90 minutes, and doesn't pretend to be anything but that. The animation is good enough that you forget about it being animated.

My friend and I took our boys to this movie and both enjoyed it. My son kept pulling my hands up over his eyes, but I don't think he was frightened. In fact, he kept making dragon noises when he ate his popcorn.
I think I enjoyed it just as much as they did! Some of the story, just like other animated movies, has "adult" funny lines thrown in.
If it passes the 3-4 yo test, it must be good (he sat in his seat the entire movie)

This was terrific! Close to a Pixar movie. My daughter is 8 and just loved it. I don't think at 2 or 4 or 6 she would have been frightened. She's pretty tough though. I might keep the timid away. Great flick for both kids and adults. See it for them, see it for you.

This is the first movie ever to be seen in a thratre by my 3 yr old son. He was fascinated from beginning to end. Only got out of his chair once to go potty. He did not scare at all during this movie.

this is the first movie i took my 4yr old daughter to. she loves movies and watches movies all the time at home. I do realize that this movie was PG and that I was taking a chance so I am not at all being negative about the movie itself. As a parent, i was really enjoying this movie, but my daughter jumped more than once during the first half of the movie (non-3D version) which had alot of night scenes, fire, attacking dragons with very loud sound. I am NOT at all discouraging you from seeing this movie and I will probably buy it for my daughter next year when it comes out, but I just wanted to give other parents a heads up that it might be a little to 'realistic' for your 3 or 4 year old if they aren't used to this big cinema experience.

The 2D version is good enough and the 3D version, at twice the price, is certainly NOT worth the extra cost.

oh my god. the best movie ever. You can't ask for too much more out of an animated comedy for the family. There are little bits for adults and kids and the story line moves fast enough to keep everyone engaged. The voice-over acting was excellent and the animation was extremely well done. The indignant actions of the dragon "Toothless" will remind you of that one super intelligent family cat that seems to understand everything except for why humans are the dominant species. The character interactions and the overall message of the movie will make you laugh and make you think. While it doesn't quite meet the high standards of Shrek, you will not regret spending the money to see this in a theater.

Took 6 11-yr old boys for our son's birthday and they loved it. It's a movie for both young and old. No slow parts, so you won't be napping anytime. The language was clean.
Only one part that was a little intense for little children and that scene is very brief. Witty use of sarcasm without demeaning others.
Overall, great family entertainment. Even our 15-yr old daughter enjoyed it :-) Definitely worth seeing multiple times!

This movie has a good message (non-violent means of communication, peaceful co-existence) and it kept my kids' attention for the duration. The quality of the animation is good. I wished there were less scenes of fighting and limb loss but overall, it was a good experience for our family.

This was a great movie to see with the kids! The storyline is good, for both kids and adults, the animation was terrific, too. We didn't see the 3D version and I wish we would have - there are scenes that I can imagine being spectacular for viewing in 3D. There were no slow developments, the story moves along at a steady pace and it kept two five year olds entertained for the duration of the movie. The little girl that went with us was a little scared during the "bad" dragon scenes, but those scenes are short and not all that scary. We'll probably purchase it on Blu-Ray when it becomes available because it's worth seeing again - and with kids, over and over again.
