Movies like businesses are sexy and exciting when they first come out. New and creative twists to something familiar excites all senses. As a business and movie sequels mature, what was once the new and exciting becomes the routine and expected...the bar has been reset.
Shrek's final chapter has all the same twists that seemed new and creative in the first movie....you just expect it now and so it doesn't seem as exciting. It was an entertaining movie that my family enjoyed and it is easy to recommend. If you liked the first 3, you should enjoy the final chapter.

Final Shreck installment was consistent with the proven formula of its predecessors. Great visuals, consistent performances, and funny storyline. The moral to the story was clear, even to my six year old. It was a great way to end the series.

I was disappointed by Shrek the Third, but my son wanted to see this new installment as part of his birthday celebration, so we gave this one a chance and are glad we did! "Forever After" was redemption for this great series...glad we took the chance on it because we really enjoyed it...we're not big fans of 3D, so we saw it in the regular flavor...definitely recommend you see this one!

Shrek Four-Ever After at least was not the major disappointment that the third movie was. This one lived up to the original with it’s, good story line, quirky one-liners and great music. The story, ages old but always relevant, really worked for this, the last chapter of Shrek. There are a few crude jokes and it is a little darker than the first two, but no more sinister in the beginning than the third installment was. The story line for this film was perfect for finishing up the series (think: It’s A Wonderful Life) and the writers did well in not rehashing what we already saw in the first three (as they did with the third). The great one-liners are there, Myers, Murphy and Banderas worked their characters off each other brilliantly as always, Donkey and Puss have some of the best lines in this film. As always the music for the film is perfect. They really did well matching the mood of the scenes to the music, which has been great for all four films. As with all the movies there is a level of crudeness in the jokes and scenery that most youngsters may not get yet, but even with that, it is not over done as some DreamWorks films are. I feel this is a great film for the whole family, with a good, heart-warming message for all. We took my 70 year old aunt and my 12, 9, and 4 year old boys. Everyone enjoyed the movie and had a great time. I would certainly recommend this movie.

I've taken my younger brother to see Shrek on his birthday for every movie (they've always come out right on his birthday). I was nervous because some of the reviews ripped on the movie pretty hard but I think they're all unfounded. I thought the movie was cute, funny and it's great for the whole family. There are enough jokes for the younger ones, but also enough comments thrown in slyly for the adults. Obviously it's not McGrubber or some adult comedy, but it's not meant to be and that doesn't mean adults can't enjoy it as well. I also really appreciated the central theme. I think all ages can appreciate enjoying what you have, and never taking life for granted

Kids will love it, and adults will find just enough aimed-at-the-older-generation jokes to be entertained as well. Great for a summer outing with the family. Save your money and pass on the 3D... the movie is just fine without it.

There was some really funny lines in the movie. Plot was predictable but the kids really enjoyed it, even the preteens.

My kids are 18 months and 3 1/2 and we ALL laughed throughout this movie. If you like the Shrek series you'll love this one. Didn't let us down at all. I'm just sad to see this will be the last.

I liked this one a lot more than the last one. I don't think you can top the first one but it has a great ending and has the usual good humor that sometimes goes over the kids heads but makes it an enjoyable movie for adults as well. The theme always stays to true to those important things like good friends and the power of true loves kiss. I would definitely recommend that Shrek lovers see this movie.
