The novel "Secretariat The Making of a Champion" by William Nack is the basis for this on-screen adaptation of the 1973 Triple Crown Winner, "Secretariat". The movie shows you how Penny Chenery(Diane Lane) takes over her ailing father's Horse farm after her mother dies. The farm is losing money hand over fist, Penny does not give up or give in. One of the mare's gives birth to a colt. That colt would eventually be named "Secretariat". The story unfolds from there... "Secretariat" is definitely worth seeing. It's suspenseful, exciting, crowd pleasing and fun. It's one of those movies that can appeal to all ages. If you are remotely interested in learning more about the 1973 Triple Crown Winner, I suggest seeing "Secretariat". The reason this particular horse is so intriguing is that it's racing times and lengths of it's victories have never been challenged by any horse to this very day.

Happened to catch the ad for the sneak preview after hearing a very positive review on the radio the day before. Boy was it a fantastic movie- something for everyone. The photography was breathtaking, the horses were dazzling and the acting was so real that i was holding my breath at times even though we knew the outcome. Very happy to see a movie worthy of many Oscars. Go see it- you will be well rewarded as well!!!!

I didn't know quite what to expect, other than, of course, the story of Secretariat. I remember the races as a kid on our B&W TV in the living room.
It was a compelling story that still has the strongest points being the actual racing - not a surprise, given the subject.
Very enjoyable and worthwhile, if you like horses.

My husband and I really enjoyed this movie. We both felt connected to the characters and the emotions they must have felt. Even though we know what happens in the end, it did not take away from the movie one bit. We recommend this to anyone. On a side note even though its a Walt Disney movie and could probably have a G rating young kids would probably not enjoy the story line. We took our daughter and she seemed a bit bored with it. For older kids or adults, this is a must see, even if you are not a horse lover.

This is a great movie and a great story presented exceptionally by Disney with excellent Oscar-worthy performances by excellent actors. Already knowing the story my excpectations were notably unrealistic but Disney covered the line and embellished appropriately. Lane, Malkovich, and Nelsan Ellis may all be in the Oscar mix. My only reason for a less-than-5-star grade is that while I completely loved the authentic horse-racing-on-track-closeup-thunderous action, I was left wanting that mix of Disney filming of the Belmont to coincide from gate-to-finish with the original never-to-be-duplicated-dominating-athletic-performance that was Secretariat's 1973 race. To this day I can't watch the race without crying and consider It the greatest single sporting event of my generation. Disney missed the mark in passing that feel of the dominance of Secretariat on that day in that race. I do hope we begin to see and hear more of this remarkable animal as that legacy should never die. Love the movie. Love the horse beyond measure. He was God's horse.

It seems as though in a bad economy and no jobs people have stopped believing in themselves and others. This movie was gripping, heartwarming, exciting and inspiring. Tho' I was there for the "real" race, this movie presented the entire story behind the greatest racehorse of all time. Diane Lane and John Malkovich were superb. Take your kids/grandkids to see this one! An Oscar-winner for sure!

I took my daughter- in- law and my grandchildren to see this movie and we all loved it. It was interesting, beautifully filmed and the race scenes were exciting and suspenseful. Mom, dad and 10 year old equally loved this exciting drama. The casting was excellent, Diane Lane and John Malkovich and the horse playing Secretariat were all excellent. Even the supporting roles were well-cast. It was amazing to me how much we were on the edge of our seats despite knowing the outcome of this true story. Beautifully done. We can't wait to buy the DVD when it comes out!

Great feel good story. One of those films that has the audience applauding at the end. Does a great job at depicting the early 70's. The existing conflicts in society with the Vietnam War and the Nixon presidency and how "Big Red" brought a nation and a family together. If you are a knowledgeable "Big Red" and horse racing fan you will however have to be prepared to ignore some of the inaccuracies in is film.

Exceptional film. This film reminds us the importance of family, honor, and character. No one is too old, new new, or two inexperienced to make a difference if it is something you feel strongly about. A fantastic reminder that woman are and can be more thn housewives without losing her family. The cinematography is excellent, the shots of the races are exceptional. And of course, a once of a lifetime story!

Excellent feel good movie which put a smile on my face and warm fuzzies in my heart. This is my kind of love story!!! It brought back great memories of my childhood and watching Secretariat when I was a teenager. If you are one you loves stories about beating the odds I recommend Secretariat.
