I wasn't sure what to expect going into this movie other than an updated Sci-Fi version of Dances With Wolves and came out very impressed. The story line does mirror Dances With Wolves a bit but beyond that the special effects in 3d rocked and would recommend to anyone interested in the movie that you see it in 3d if at possible. I will be looking for more 3d movies going forward as i feel it now rekindles the fun of going out to the theatre and spending some extra cash versus just waiting for DVD release to watch at home with the family.

Ignore the gripes about the supposedly derivative story and the stilted dialogue, this is a masterpiece! The alternative CG world created by James Cameron, after you buy into the concept, seems far more alive and beautiful than theso-called "real" world. The experience is consuming -- you hardly notice that the movie is nearly three hours long. This is an incredible movie that everyone should see.

This movie was ok. To me is was just the grown up version of Pocahontas. It had basically the same storyline. it was entertaining enough, but not something I would want to see again. My husband, however, loved it because of the graphics.

Being a James Cameron film, I knew this movie would be good. After all, he's never made a bad (or even mediocre) movie. I was NOT disappointed. Visually stunning and great action, however I enjoyed the story more than I thought I would. Even at over 2 1/2 hours, this movie never dragged. It moved along briskly, and the payoff at the end was worth it.

The special effects were amazing, especially the vibrant colors. I agree with some other posters, the story line was a bit predictable and did not like the fact that the humans are the root of all evil and just looking to destroy the planet, again...otherwise the characters were beautiful in a native american with a twist way, and the story was good.

The special effects are immersive and groundbreaking in countless ways, and in 3D the movie looks great. The imagined world is highly derivative of many Miyazaki anime films, but the storyline and characters are not half as original and innovative as Miyazaki's. Instead, the story is the usual tired, boring, and predictable "Dances with Wolves" Hollywood fluff, and I knew exactly where the story was going about 10 minutes into the film. Too bad, really, as the visuals are just stunning. But a movie is more than just visuals, and about an hour into the movie, I found myself looking at my watch wondering when it would end.

As for everyone who has not seen it though I would suggest seeing it in the theaters at least once cause of the SFX and the 3d was amazing. If you are thinking "well I don't like scifi stuff" well here is some news for you take out the scifi and you have a romance action drama... Boy goes in undercover, boy meets girl, girl and boy fall in love boy turns against his people for love.
I had a lot more to say about the review of this movie but 750 char. is not enough to even describe the taste of salt let alone an epic movie.
Like always James Cameron delivers an epic movie, nothing small for him.

"Avatar" is a must-see! The 3-D experience is astounding and the technology that makes it happen is mind-boggling. There is a great story line that grabs you and brings you into the story. I was blown away by the fantasy that James Cameron has come up with and continually fascinated by each twist and turn that revealed some new angle to the story. Yes, it is long, but the time goes by quickly and, like a great book, I was disappointed when it ended; I wanted it to go on and on! Now that I have seen it once, I will probably go back and see it again, and maybe again. It's that good! And I know that I will see things in repeated viewings that I missed before. However, just to relive the experience again will be well worth it.

The 3D spectacle was certainly something to behold, but it's a shame that $100s of millions were spent on the special effects, but not much on the story. Very unoriginal and very predictable. Basically "Dances with Wolves" on another planet. The Na'vi were basically just stereotypical Native Americans, complete with identical war whoops. The end battle scene was pretty much the same as the Ewok battle in Return of the Jedi. Why is it so much to ask for both spectacle and a good, original story? Cameron did it with Aliens, why not here? He's just gotten caught up in the shiny glitz/no substance that draws in the millions of $. As I said, it was a spectacle to behold, but nothing close to a lasting masterpiece of movie art.

This is definitely one to see on the big screen! It was an amazing movie...great cinematic effects and special effects too. I would choose to live on Pandora! The storyline was certainly relevant...spiritual in the sense that all things in the universe or "your" world are connected...and the lack of vision of the military machine in this case and their inability to see the bigger picture...a kind of Dances with Wolves in Space. The 3D part was really an afterthought for me...not to many things projecting out toward the audience. Some parts were too violent for me...NOT a movie for kids under...10?...All in all really enjoyed it!

This movie has interesting graphics, and in 3-D they really show up. However, this movie contains vulgar language that does not add to the content of the movie, thus degrading the entire movie. It also contains political and religious overtones that are subtle yet dangerous. See this movie for graphics only, not content.

This was an excellent movie, I would recommend it to anyone who is looking for a fun, intense, very cool movie. You will want to own this one! It is a little much for children so leave the little ones at home, good for about eleven or twelve and up. The movie is long but it moves along so you are not bored at all! Grab a soda and popcorn and see this one!

Great move. Good Story. Some scenes are scary with the 3D glasses, but I guess that is the purpose, just be careful with the kids.
