A complex, terrific, engrossing film. It carries the usual Nolan out-of-sequence signature, which deliberately challenges the audience, but delivers its story in a smart, concise and compelling manner. The acting is fresh and edgy. This is movie-making at its absolute best -- on par with "Chinatown."
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Ignore the gripes about the supposedly derivative story and the stilted dialogue, this is a masterpiece! The alternative CG world created by James Cameron, after you buy into the concept, seems far more alive and beautiful than theso-called "real" world. The experience is consuming -- you hardly notice that the movie is nearly three hours long. This is an incredible movie that everyone should see.
Guy Ritchie's overwrought direction draws far too much attention to itself, and away from the story. The wonderful Robert Downey, Jr. is underutilized as he mumbles incoherently throughout much of the movie. While the art direction is compelling, there is way too much emphasis on cute editing tricks and Holmes' fighting skills, and too little on overall character development. I was looking forward to this movie, but was disappointed.
