This movie was too long. It's been over-hyped, in my estimation. While all the special effects were spectacular, the plot was the same old tired theme. We both got the sub-text preaching--don't cut trees, be kind to Mother Nature, yadda, yadda. If you didn't see 3-D in the 50s, I guess this could be amazing. When I titled this "good for the young folks", I was referring to the techy stuff and animation. Once is enough to see this movie.

The technical accomplishment of this film is tremendous and groundbreaking. The world created is gorgeous and imaginative. But the story was unbelievably predictable and trite. The political and spiritual messages were bludgeons, without nuance or complexity. Standard noble savage story with standard villains, and 20th century warfare played out as always, with innocents on both sides being savagely slaughtered mindlessly. You'd think that 200 years in the future, especially in a sci-fi story, we'd get something more evolved and thoughtful. It was a restating of old history. Boring. I almost fell asleep except for the volume of the guns going off.

This movie was very entertaining. The 3D really added to the experience. The computer animation was excellent. The plot was good.

I was skeptcal about a sci fi movie to bring in the New Year, but was pleasantly surprised. I 3D bothered my eyes at first but then I got used to it. Sigorney Weaver was major -league type cast in this movie. All I could see was Ripley from Aliens. The animation and imagination of Pandora was truely unique. Bummed about so many movies about how humans are so instrinsically bad to their planet . Come on Hollywood. give us some encouragement as opposed to beating us up all the time. See it though.

What an amazing world they have created. Unbelievable seamless combination of CG and real actors. The storyline never gets dull or slow and the 2 hours and 40 minutes flew by. The 3D version of Avatar was a tour de force of digital effects. Just compare this to the flat people on the ship’s deck in Titanic. The story moved along at a sometimes-frenetic (which I think is a cover for the challenges of computer graphics) pace and stayed on a level that didn’t really plumb the depths of its content – intra-species-racial-capitalist-exploitive militarism. The major recurring theme of a Gaia type planet was lame, but probably palatable to a generally non-scientific public. I completely enjoyed the movie but it’s not one of my all-time greats.

I thought this movie was incredible! The 3D alone is reason enough to see it, but the scenery, the story, all of it was so unbelievably creative and awesome. Definitely sets the bar for future movies. It feels like you're actually there when seeing this movie in 3D and it's not so "in your face" like some other 3D cartoons that I've seen. Definitely one of the best films you'll see in the near future.

Reverse the ending and spend about $400 million more and you have Avatar. The special effects are awe-inspiring. But the awe wears out after about an hour, and then you still have about an hour and a half left to go...all hung on a story that an 8 year old would find predictable. Frankly, you could bring an 8 year old to this film. There's some comic book salty language and curiously blood-less violence (no doubt to keep the rating down to PG13 and the toys in McDonalds). And hinted nudity that would be thrilling to the under 13 set but weird to anyone with adult hormones.

There is no doubt that Avatar is a visually spectacular film. What a shame that all that innovation is used to present 19th-century views of indigenous people: naive, animal-like, humorless, and in touch with nature. These ideas are not just old and mistaken they are also dangerous, because they have justified domination. Cameron tells an apparently anti-colonial (and pro-environmental) tale, but this view of the natives means that they must be saved by an outsider, who is supposedly more spiritually advanced and even better able to do what the natives themselves have taught him to do. He even gets the girl, and of course she's a princess. Avatar is a caustic blend of Dances with Wolves, Disney's Pocahontas, Karate Kid, and The Smurfs.

"Lord of the Rings", "Star Wars" , and "Dances with Wolves" and "Brave Heart" theme--I've seen this movie before...but not like this! Visually this movie was fantastic It seemed they based the Tribe on the Native Americans, they did some 3-d but could have done more, esp in the battel more jumping out at you ( in my opinion the 3-D military add before the movie stood out more), but as far as landscape animals,and World they created was aw sum. Yes there was some predictability to the plot and characters but Overall still a movie well worth Seeing and I will probably own it when it comes out! Unless you have a true home theater better see this one in the theater Esp for the 3-D effects

From the first minute you put on the 3D glasses, you partake in the incredible experience unlike anything you ever encountered. It didn't feel like a movie. It was a entertaining experience. It was a nice choice to bring the New Years in. Great movie. It wasnt predictable but I hated to see it end. Didn't realize how long it was because it was just so good, you wanted more. I didn't expect to like it as I am not a sci-fi fan. But it was incredible - seamless, gorgeous and worth every penny. The beauty of the plant and animal life was astounding, breathtaking. I never was cognizant of where the animation started and where the real humans began/ended. And we saw the Real 3D version which was an even bigger treat - The music and acting was pretty subtle and you could tell that Cameron was in control of the film - He is a true artist. I want to see this film several more times.

Dances with Thundersmurfs in the Matrix. Pretty much sums up this movie. A bland amalgamation of movies you've already seen touched up with some 3D effects. One dimensional acting in a three dimensional environment does not make for "ground breaking cinema" I want my money back.

The 3D effects were incredible that towards the end you don't even realize you are in 3D anymore as it is just a natural feel to the movie.
Do yourselfe a favor and see this in 3D and sit close to the screen. I have seen it twice and sitting further back does not do the movie justice. If you sit up close so you only see the screen and not the rest of the theatre you will recognize and really love the 3D effects as they seemed more real and easier to lose yourself in the world that was created.
The plot could have been better but I thought the story flowed nicely. Definitely recommend it.

Technology has finally reached the point of making the audience guess who the real person is under the makeup. The story is old, but the details are refreshingly new and imaginative. Predictable? Yes, the story line is proven, why mess with it. Is it long? Yes, but only to my bladder.

The 3D alone made this movie worth seeing. It was a little too long, but overall it was so enjoyable that it was worth the extra time. The jungle scenery was just beautiful, and the story had a timely message. It's a fun way to spend a couple of hours. Don't miss it on the big screen!
