This is an excellent movie to begin with and then you add the 3D effects... just awesome. The colors are so bright and beautiful, it is amazing. Even though it might be close to a few other story lines, it still has its own place and definitely holds its own in Sci-Fi. A GREAT movie!!! It is a must see.

The plot was, admittedly, predictable. The characters were not the deepest. However, this movie is beautiful. The story is no less touching, and still has lessons to be taken from it.
Don't expect this to be life changing, but it was an incredibly enjoyable, visceral movie. I didn't regret spending my 2.7 hours on it.

I am a former military officer, pilot, and sci-fi freak. I saw Avatar in 3D -- the flying scenes brought tears to my eyes. It should be noted that the use of force in this case is not military; it is mercenary -- even so, it is heartbreaking. I immersed deeply into this movie and even though certain aspects were predictable, I thoroughly enjoyed it, would watch it again, and would recommend, without reservation, that you go see it!

The effects are just spectacular. And I don't mean the guns & explosive kind, even though that's also there. What I found enchanting were the scenes in the forest, the technicolor plants & animals that looked out of this world but with such incredibly good CGI that they were almost believable. The plot was ordinary but the graphics more than made up for it. Pleasure to watch and with 3D you get immersed in the experience. Go early though and get a seat near the center. The theater was packed.

Very good movie. If your going to see this, you should spend the extra bucks to see it in 3D. Very well done...makes you wonder why all movies are not in 3D. Not only was the cinematography good but the story line wasn't bad either. A must see in my opinion.

the complete beauty of the movie makes it a must see and it's no wonder that it was a fortune to make; the idea of an avatar as well as the creatures of this world rival those of Lucas/star wars; however, most of the movie was derivative of other movies/books (not in itself original) and i didn't really connect with any of the characters. that being said, go see the movie; it was fun.

Sci-fi isn't normally my top choice but this film was outstanding. It's a feast for the eyes. There are some violent scenes but the director saw fit to keep the blood and guts to a minimum...you don't have to see that in order for some scenes to break your heart. It will make some reflect on war and the environment, without being totally depressing, as some films are these days. A good choice for both adults and older children (10+). The 3D added to the visuals without being obtrusive.

I watched the 3D version (not IMAX) of Avatar. The story is repeated (Dances with Wolves), but the special effects are fantastic. Anyone who is into Science Fiction will be in heaven. I'll go watch the IMAX version of it in the next few days. I can't wait until this comes out on BlueRay, so I can add it to my library.

We decided to begin a new tradition of seeing a movie on New Year's Eve and we couldn't have chosen a better movie to start with.
Our ages from 11 to 56 all classified this as a movie for everyone to see that can handle the fighting scenes. It has edge of the seat drama and the set designs and costumes were nothing less than amazing.
James Cameron really knows how to bring a story to life and this choice is nothing less than extraordinary!
A visual explosion of both color and meaning, I loved the story and the movie.

Visually stunning. Although the plot wasn't exactly original, I found Avatar to be very exciting and fast paced. This movie is a real indictment of the U.S. government's treatment of the American Indian, but with a relatively happy ending. The destruction of the environment of Pandora is also very relevant. I will try to see Avatar again, but in 3D next time.

I wasn't really interested in seeing this movie, but my friends talked me into going with them and I really liked it! The animation was of course amazing but I was surprised to find the story very good as well! I wouldn't take the kids to this one though all the blue ladies are pretty much showing their bare ta ta's the whole movie. But I definitely plan to see it again!!!

I saw this movie not knowing what to expect at all. After I saw the movie, I was very pleasantly surprised. I thought that, like many people, the special effects and the 3D added an extra element to the movie that made the movie that much better. The use of a somewhat hackneyed, but tried-and-true story line (spy falls in love with spyee, who is outraged, then forgiving) captures the heart as usual. This does not obscure the underlying, thinly veiled and often rehearsed attack on the imperialist kill-em-all exploiters by the hysterical sky-is-falling environmentalists. Politics! Spare me.
The 3D effects were exraordinary, and the IMAX experience was amazing! A couple of times it seemed like the 3D glasses were dirty (but they weren't), so I guess the technology is not perfect. But when it was near perfect, I was fanning ashes and reaching out to touch the little jellyfish thingies.

Avatar couldn't have come at a better moment in history. Good for us. How was Mr. Cameron able to distribute this film? Powerful corporations that $upport militarism/ war for gain are correctly reflected as wrong. Excellent acting, craftsmanship, effects, and everything else. But it's the deep meaning of the film that begins a new era in cinema. Star Trek and Star Wars did something similar in a smaller way. Avatar has gone so much deeper. THANK YOU, ALL WHO PARTICIPATED IN MAKING AVATAR POSSIBLE.

Great movie. My only complaints are: 1) they really should turn the lights in the theatre all the way off in a 3D movie; the lights are distracting with 3D glasses on. 2) Not enough forest or depth of philosophy in the movie; the concept could have been taken a lot further. 3) Too much violence.

3-D has finally "come of age" this movie will define 3-D as a valid entertainment medium. Watching it was a real experience and i will probably go back and see it again. There was so muc detail packed into the sequences, it's just too much to take in at one sitting. Storey line was OK, no worse than Star Wars, the acting was much better though, making it much more palatable. Basically this is a "blue people" action love storey with happy ending. A true landmark movie defining a new experence in movie going. - Enjoy.

Wow - Excellent - Should Win Awards! What an amazing experience, well done - congrats to all involved for creating such an enjoyable movie!
At the end of the movie - everyone started applauding – that is how good this movie was. Very few times have we experienced a movie of this caliber!
