The best movie of 2009! For people who enjoy science fiction and whimsy this movie will not disapoint. As stated by many other reviewers the plot line is quite predictable, however the story itself is very entertaining and the execution is superb (there is a little bit of everthing in this film making it a crowd pleaser for sure). There are echos of western expansion that only serve to make the story more compelling. I would definitely recomend this movie and if you can would suggest watching it in 3D.

Fun in 3D, not worth the cost. Entertaining, but the "America is a greedy, imperialist corporation" message was heavy-handed and too absurd. The "evil" corporate drone and the even more villainous Marine colonel (yes, the military now work for the corporation not a government) are so over-the-top they’re like comic book caricatures.
Is this the best script Hollywood could deliver for a film that cost almost half a BILLION dollars? Sure the visuals were stunning and the virtual performances were good, but couldn't they develop a plot with more layers, characters who weren't so predictable and a message as subtle as a sledge hammer?
See the movie for its visual effects, but if you love this country, you’ll be disgusted by the message.

Absolutely fantastic 3-D effects, and I am sure it is harder with the acting elements combined to make it seem more "natural", but overall, I felt it was worthy to achieve a five-star rating. What the message is trying to convey is important in today's world because our race does not respect one another and our environment, long enough to sustain its existence. Ignorance is bliss, and every little bit of education to our youth, will hopefully make some positive changes... a movie for everyone to see.

Typical Hollywood overdone tree hugging of save the world against bad guys and some wrong messages; soldiers are bad, local are always good stuff. So-so and predictable story line and ending.
Having said that, the 3D and cinematography is very well done. Storyline does move at a good clip with no slow segments. Worth seeing just to see the progress in the blur between animation and live film.

One of best. It will blow your mind away, it will take you to different world-physically and emotionally. It is sobering for people to see what terrible things some humans do, can do. The Na'vi are beautiful creatures, have beautiful mind, cherish their world - something we have to do to save ours. I think everyone should see it. I saw it twice, and want to see it again. Although the story is simple, this is a visually stunning, very imaginative film that fascinates and achieves the basic goal of any film: It entertains. You need to suspend disbelief and just sit back and revel in the creative joy that went into the film. Themes abound. It was a good movie, not great. The cinematography & 3D was fantastic don't get me wrong. It is amazing how far film has gone, now they only need smell and touch elements ala Disney to push the experience. The storey line was o.k. and was not shy about the reality of historical wrong doings of our nation with it's native people. I also thought for as much buildup and backfilling they did to get you up to speed they skipped into new concepts/segments of the movie pretty cheesily. The ending was predictable and not very well written either. But, overall a very good movie.

James Cameron surely knows his craft. Don't think for a moment that just because james developed this new thechonology he would want to make it the big and all about point of the movie. Actually, the new technology is only there to help us believe we are in another world. The story of Avatar is really what had me hooked. I was so invested in the characters and in their fight for survival and in their pain as they we're seeing their most loved ideology, of being one with earth was being drestroyed. Truely a masterpiece that will make you wish you were one of them.

We saw it in 3-D and will return to see in IMAX. The visually stunning graphics came to life in 3-D. The action sequences were intense. The creativity of the story, particularly the way the natives were able to link to the animals and environment, was enjoyable and thought provoking.

waste of $15 and 3 hours plot is so pathetically predictable that its laughable. the graphics are pretty good but thats about it. save $15 and stare at windows screensaver for 3 hours

I have gone to see Avatar twice so far and hav LOVED it each time! I HIGHLY recommend it to everyone! The story is well written and toches you in a way many movies havent in a long time. The visuals are AMAZING, with the 3D the world comes to life. The music is VERY well done as well. The acting is also very good. James Cameron, that is money and time WELL spent! I am looking to go a 3rd time, you catch onto something new each time! I cant wait for next two!! . Go see AVATAR! it is money well spent!
