Fun in 3D, not worth the cost. Entertaining, but the "America is a greedy, imperialist corporation" message was heavy-handed and too absurd. The "evil" corporate drone and the even more villainous Marine colonel (yes, the military now work for the corporation not a government) are so over-the-top they’re like comic book caricatures.
Is this the best script Hollywood could deliver for a film that cost almost half a BILLION dollars? Sure the visuals were stunning and the virtual performances were good, but couldn't they develop a plot with more layers, characters who weren't so predictable and a message as subtle as a sledge hammer?
See the movie for its visual effects, but if you love this country, you’ll be disgusted by the message.
What a letdown. The Coen must have had nothing to do with the trailer, so it was great and made the movie look hilarious and exciting. In the end it was a typical Coen bros movie--random, violence & gore with no real plot; quirky characters you really don't care whether they live or die; and the ever-unappealing Frances McDormand. By the way, I guess the underlying theme is "the CIA is filled with nothing but worthless, incompetent people". How predictable. Save your cash and wait till it comes out on DVD. I sure wish I had. Brad Pitt was pretty funny, and Clooney was fair, but it sure was not a funny movie and at times it was just lame. When you get to the end, you ask yourself why you sat through the whole thing--for this lame ending?
