I thoroughly enjoyed this movie, especially in 3D! It was very difficult to differentiate between the "real" and the "animated" portions of the movie. While the story lines are ages old, Cameron dresses them up in a fresh, new way. I will be affected by this movie for a long time! Well worth the extra bucks!

The 3D was fun since I had not seen one since I was a child (long time ago!), but this movie lacked innovation and was burdened by a trite plot and a cliche-ridden dialog. Grace was the only character I cared about. The impact of the special effects was not anywhere near that of the first Star Wars movie; that one "wowed" me; this one just "ho-hummed" me.

Cameron never ceases to amaze! In a classic battle between good and evil, the special effects blow you away while the storyline pulls your heart strings. You start to believe in these characters whose world is about to become... well, not wanting to be a spoiler, I'll stop there. The 3D is excellent, even for the unfortunate eyeglasses wearers. The 3D specs were large and comfortable and fit over my glasses witout a problem. This one is a winner. Long, but well worth the time.

Take whatever your favorite movie is for special effects and then compare it after watching Avatar. You will find yourself so taken by the world known as Avatar, that you you forget all other movies existed. It is THAT good! It is digitally masterfully created. 3D doesn't add much to the experience expect for novelty. The story is literally Disney's Pochahontas, up to and including the living tree that helps / speaks.
Don't go for the story, it leaks everywhere and is basically a simple love story with battle scenes. Characters are not developed, not credible and not center-stage in this movie. However, for eye-candy value there is absolutely nothing better!!

Finally, a great science fiction/ fantasy film that is a great "date movie" also. While my son & I usually go alone to sci fi films since my wife likes movies like "It's Complicated", she really enjoyed the visuals, the love story and the wonderful relationship of harmony with nature embodied throughout this film. She was skeptical about going, but now is very glad she did. This is truly a film with something for everyone Must see in 3D. I enjoyed the movie very much. Unlike some of the other reviewers, I'm not convinced that the 3D effects were overwhelming. I'd have to see the "flat screen" version of the movie for comparison, but with the exception of a couple of scenes, I didn't feel the 3D was that big a deal. The point is, go see the movie even if "flat screen" is all that is available to you.

Some moves people say wait for the DVD. Not this one. This movie was amazing. The plot was great. The ending was unexpected. For 2 hours and 40 mins I was engaged at all times. The only problem there was a little racial undertone. "blue monkeys" and watch them run like roaches" other than that this move is a win!

My 16 year old son and I went to see Avatar in 3D over the weekend and were not disapointed at all. It was a bit long, 3 hours including previews and credits, but not hard to get through. The movie was not only entertaining, but held a very valuable lesson about nature. A must see!

Excellent graphics. The 3-D effect was interesting - however the ones at Disney and Universal are much better. The movie reminds me of the Indians and their struggle against the White Man with a little Titanic love story thrown in. Overall excellent movie would highly recommend.

There is only one reason to see this movie and that's to view the latest in 3D film production. The ONLY REASON to go is to see it in 3D, otherwise PASS. The rest of the movie is completely unsatisfying: too long, completely predictable and plagued by adolescent storytelling. Cameron should leave the writing to the writers and stick to the technical aspects. He's the best at the former and the worst at the latter. (Well, maybe not as terrible as George Lucas, but close. This movie made Jar-Jar Binks seem acceptable).

That was quiet an experience. Absolutely incredible movie. From the actors and animation to the cinematography, sound effects and the music. I am not sure if it is a children's movie though. I don't think so.... Maybe PG 13...There is violence and lot of it. . But this movie took us beyond an animation or a fantasy; this movie teaches a lesson. There is not one part of this movie that is missing; cast, story, acting, and CGI are all outstanding. There has been nothing like this movie before and James Cameron has delivered like only he can.

It was an outstanding movie. The story has some refreshing original ideas, however, some of the ideas could have been developed a little more. The movie was long, they should have made it a little longer and put in an intermission. The cinematography was incredible, I want to go see it again just to see all the colors. must see.

For those who like epic stories and long movies, this IS the movie of the year! It is visually stuning and takes the viewer into another world. All actors are excellent and while the basic story is old as time - love, violence, control - it has new depth and dimension. Absolutely see it in 3D for an immersive experience! A classic for this new decade - welcome to the future!
