This was a pretty good movie. There was lots of action and a good enough amount of guy stuff (explosions and special effects) as well as gal stuff (romance).
Beware, it does make us Terrans look bad by portraying us (mainly, the military) as profiteers who are careless about nature and human(oid) life ... especially since in this movie we destroyed our planet and are trying to destroy theirs.
Being retired military, I take a huge issue with that. Since I now work for a contractor that does substantial environmental work on military installations, I can tell you that federal government agencies (including DoD) are committed to maintaining a healthy balance between the environment and necessary progress.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

The movie was amazing beyond wordsj. Story was simplistic and predictable, but presented in such an incredible manner that it didn't matter. I worried that, at 160 minutes long, it would be tiring and boring, but the time flew by and we loved every minute of it!
Unfortunately, the experience was marred by the movie theater itself (Roxy 14 in Santa Rosa, CA) because the bathrooms are insanely filthy, no paper towels, paper towels and toilet paper all over the place, just a pit. Management obviously understaffs the place and doesn't have a routine to check to be sure the bathrooms are maintained during the evening.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

I don't have a lot of experience with 3-D movie going, but I'm glad I saw this one in 3-D. It is an absolutely stunning movie--the detail and attention put into the CGI is noteworthy. While I thought it could have been edited to tighten it up (after all, it's almost three hours), and I had a couple of questions about the foundations for the plot, this is definitely the kind of movie you want to see on the big screen. And you find yourself cheering wholeheartedly for good vs. evil.

I just do not know how they do it! With the 3D experience you feel like you are part of the forest. We also did forks and screen which I highly recommend for these longer movies. Fell in love with the Avatar people. Would highly recommend!

I took a friend as a birthday present. We saw the 3D version. At first I wasn't sure about the 3D experience. The glasses were bulky and didn't fit very well over my own glasses but it was worth the constant adjusting. It made the alien scenes come alive. This is a must see, if for nothing else but to experience the magical creativity and beauty of this creation. I'm now a believer. I wonder how long it will be for the language to catch on.

There are many reasons we go to the movies. Here is a film, like all of his films before it, that delivers on all counts.
Tonight I felt ashamed for ever doubting him. This is all of his movies, his underwater sea exploration, his writing skills, his directorial abilities, and his favorite science fiction influences wrapped into one film, and it's breathtaking. I loved every frame of this movie. Every. Frame.
I'm so happy that I saw it in 3-D. It was purely immersing, and I don't think I would ever want to see it any other way.
Halfway through, I knew that this had skyrocketed toward my #1 spot. Bravo!

I was absolutely awed at how creative, in-depth and thorough this movie turned out to be. From the outrageous 3-D light show, to its edge of the seat action, your captured. Not for a moment did I doubt James Cameron and another one of his masterpieces. What a hero Sam Worthington's character Jake Sully turned out to be. On the other hand, Zoe Saldana's character guides the viewer into her spiritual and beautiful forest world that feels like a personal discovery... This movie will go down for years as an epic... Bravo, Bravo!

The continual advancement of special effect technology brings imaginary worlds to life. 3D was used as frosting on an already superb cake. Amazing.
The tree-hugger plot (literally!) may be a bit over the top, but that was only a minor distraction.

This movie grabs you within 10 minutes and doesn't let you go until the credits are rolling. The driver of Avatar is its' idea that only natives have the kind of respect for life that make them more worthy of living, while the humans are greedy and less principled. Certainly not a new genre but Avatar pulls it off with an incredibly unique and moving story of love, war, and how the choices we make at the moment of truth aren't really hard ones at all; because these choices truly define what is in our hearts. The special effects, production efforts, and 3-D animation are impressive, indeed. But the story and actors are what make this movie great. And that's the way in should be with truly great films.

This movie was a video game turned into a movie. Having a more original plot would of not made it seem so "guy-flick" and shoot-em-up chase scenes oriented. The time did fly by, but other than being entertained, I did not come out feeling uplifted or educated. With the awesome special effects that were utilized, it's a shame they couldn't of had a more original or deeper plot.

I've seen Avatar twice now, first in non-3D and now in 3D. The 3D version was impressive, but less so than the non-3D version, primarily because the imagery is less crisp in the 3D presentation. In the non-3D version, the imagery is spectacularly sharp and immersive, and the scenes surround you with detail even without the gimmickry.

If one picture is worth1000 words- call this image max to the 12th degree. It calls to our inner dreamer, to the wisdom inside each of us. It resonates to those of us who dream when we are awake. Call it synergy when the harmony of all is the path we find. We find a great movie to see and much more. Well Well Well, visuals, editing, story-telling, drama, Yes it took 10 years to develop. Wish we could have a do-over on our last 10 years in USA. Go James Cameron and all! Talk about a visionary!

I came to see this movie because everyone told me I HAD to; that this is the one that will change the game for future filmmakers. I came away agreeing 100 percent with them, but I sure wish someone had warned me about all of the violence. This is a shoot-em-up movie of the first order. The battle scene at the end goes on forever. I'm definitely glad I went, even if violent movies are so not my thing, but it's nice to know beforehand what I'm getting into. I definitely would not bring elementary age children to see this, although there were plenty (and younger) in the theater. I hope their hearing wasn't damaged, among other things.

It does not matter that the Plot of the movie is based on the "overdone" theme of aliens vs. natives. Originally I was not very interestd in this movie and was dragged to the theater by some friends. After the first 15 minutes I was pulled into the plot, characters, inventive ideas, creatures, and of course the technology! It is an amazing movie. And everyone should at least give it a chance regardless of what you may think.

After hearing all the hype, I went in with a cynical attitude, expecting a lot of treehugging, liberal orthodoxy. Well, that didn't last very long. Yes, the storyline revolves around respect for nature and the savage nature of human beings , but it was a deeply profound, moving experience. Hours later, I am still blown away, and cannot believe how extraordinary this movie was. See it.

I felt the 3D in this movie looked like it was thrown together after the movie was finished. And not a part of pre-production. The plot is told in the first 20 minutes. The only question is will the Director that is normally taking pictures in the ballroom of the titanic kill off the main Star in the end. Bottom line it was worth the early ticket price but I would like my 3 hours back.

I'm not typically a fan of this sci-fi kind of movie, but I was hooked from pretty early on. The scenery is beautiful and the imagination that must have been involved in coming up with the different planet's plants and animals was really impressive. I thought the 3d was much more subtle and tasteful than I expected- nothing flying at me, etc... Very good entertainment!!!

I'd heard you either love or hate this film. I came away somewhere in between. The story line was predictable, but good enough for this type of adventure film. I thought the special effects were decent, but not incredibly impressive. There was nothing majestic in how the scenes were choreographed. In the end it was good entertainment and while I'm glad to have seen it in the theatre in 3D, I don't feel a need to watch it again.
