After hearing all the hype, I went in with a cynical attitude, expecting a lot of treehugging, liberal orthodoxy. Well, that didn't last very long. Yes, the storyline revolves around respect for nature and the savage nature of human beings , but it was a deeply profound, moving experience. Hours later, I am still blown away, and cannot believe how extraordinary this movie was. See it.
but the plotline has more cheese than the state of Wisconsin. Too many split second escapes for Cusack's character in Yellowstone, Vegas, and China. Surely there must have been others more worthy of survival! Just once, I wanted to see him swallowed up by the earth. All in all, though, this movie was an entertaining escape from the perils of everyday life.
It was nice to watch a sort-of disaster movie that doesn't blame the audience for polluting the world, mistreating animals, or otherwise screwing up the planet. The only reason I didn't give it a 5 was that I have learned to dislike CGI effects, especially when they are obvious.
I loved the original 1951 movie, and probably would have liked the new version more had they given it a different title. Some things are so good, there's no need to do them over. What's next, a redone Casablanca? I think the message of the original movie was lost in this one . As a stand-alone movie, it was entertaining with good special effects, but it was NOT "The Day The Earth Stood Still".
Note: I would recommend only to some friends, with qualification (but that was not an option)
Left me practically mummified. Thin, silly plot; too much wasted talent - Michelle Yeoh deserves better, and this was even below Jet Li's usual standard. I still haven't figured out the yeti (nor will I waste any more time thinking about it, er them, er whatever). On the bright side, a good opportunity to take a nap. The Mummy franchise has run its course. Save your money.
My teenage kid thought I was kidding when I said I wanted to see this movie. By the time it ended, we were both glad we went. Great story, appropriate for all ages, and contrary to some comments I read in newspapers, not preachy in the least. Your synopsis however is not up to par - EVE did not come to realize anything or "race back to space", the humans were not eagerly awaiting anything, and I'm not too sure you could typify the cockroach as a pet. Of course, none of this has anything to do with the quality of the movie, which was out-of-this-world!
