The artwork and effects are the best Hollywood's produced yet: this is why I would recommend this movie to a friend. Nevertheless, the movie uses a cookie-cutter formula for 'rising-up'-type movies. There are no surprising plot twists, the dialogue is filled with miserable one-liners, and every character is a rehash of long-established stereotypes (the grizzled, hard-talking military antagonist; the passionate tough-as-nails scientist; the gum-chewing, one-liner spewing, androgenous helicopter pilot (with an amazing bustline); the reluctant hero defined by his vulnerabilities and inherent "I-am-the-one"-ness). This movie sucks, but the visuals are spectacular enough for me to recommend seeing it in the theater.

I was prepared for the awesome special effects, especially in 3-D, but the plot was pretty good also, although not new. It is a classic good vs evil plot, set in the future, and reminded me very much of how the white Europeans treated the Native Americans when the whites came to this country. The symbolism of the planet being named "Pandora" is significant. I would highly recommend this film

I didn't know what to expect from this movie. I had heard both positive and negative reviews (from friends and pros), but I was amazed. I can't imagine seeing it in anything but 3D. The effects are incredible. The sound is awesome. Like in any other big effects movie, the characters were not very developed, but with such a visual feast, all is forgiven!

Visually revolutionary, groundbreaking, breathtaking ... all that has been said and more. The story and characters are all extremely 1D (and more than a tad patronizing); but that's not really why we're all going, is it? This has set a new bar, as well as opened the door to whole new worlds of movie-making with visuals that are not only stunning, but incredibly realistic and believable. After the first minute, you totally accept that there are huge blue catpeople on this gorgeous planet. This has changed the way we look at and perceive "reality" on-screen. Just go and swim in the beauty. It's worth it.

Saw for the second time in 3D. It's truly the only way to see this film. Well worth the $12 each for an experience that captures the senses.
I, too, was disappointed in some of the obvious Titanic music--thought the musical score could have been far better.

Called my sister, told her to drop everything and go see this. It was the most stunning thing I've ever seen. The 3D effects were phenomenal but the story was a long series of cliches and completely predictable. That said, it was impressive to watch and I would recommend that it be seen in 3D. And use the restroom before going in.

This movie was so much fun and so visually amazing and enjoyable. I loved it. Saw it twice. You have to see it in 3D. Ignore the cynics and critics who downplay the storyline, they don't know how to have any fun(!) The story is just fine. It is what entertainment and movie-making is all about.

The visuals of the Pandora planet were awesome. I agree with other reviewers that the story line isn't new and is quite predictable - think Pocohontas - but we weren't really there for the story - we were there for the special effects - which were fantastic.
