I think this one will go down as one of the best fantasy movies ever made. My 8 year old daughter was transfixed through the entire thing and she has a hard time sitting through your average 80 minute kid flick. The 3D makes you feel like you are there and experiencing it all, it's definitely one not to be missed.

Impressive.
While the storyline is familiar (think "Dances With Wolves"), where an outsider ventures into an foreign land and re-thinks life, I was pleasantly surprised by the intensity of this politico-institutional statement. It was like a big budget indie! The shot at the establishment was masterful. So was the love story. A movie has to be really great to get its audience to applaud. This one did.
The special effects are worth the ticket price alone. As such, it did not need to be shot in 3-D. That effect was barely necessary.
Were it not for Saturday's northeast snowstorm that kept most of us house-bound, I think Avatar would have broken even, financially, by now.
Go see this!

What creativity! It really took alot of imagination to pull this together. It was exquiste in 3D, so full of story, excitement, and color. We could not believe how fast 2 hours and 40 minutes went by. It was just so mezmerizing. A win for people of all ages and a must for holiday fun.

Generally lived up to media hype, interesting special effects, good screenplay and characters who stories surprisingly addressed several dimensions such as abuse of natural resources in the name of corporate profit, ethnic and cultural conflict, spirituality and the idea that laws of nature must and do effect all living creatures, love and family to mention a few. 3D was, well, not so much! I expected to see flying military hardware hurling out of the screen as I ducked down in my theatre seat to avoid them. 3D glasses were a distraction, lens too small and very uncomfortable.

I went to see this movie with a critical eye, knowing it was 2 hours and 50 minutes. Note to self: No drinking of soda, water or anything that would pressure my bladder into surrender. The pace of the movie allowed for me to better relate to the characters and to the experience in Pandora. I felt like I was there and the 3D effects aided this feeling. The movie time went by so quickly eventhough it was a long movie. The animation was spectacular. This movie sets a new standard for what I can expect from anime in the future. I recommend the movie to everyone but especially to families; it a treat for the children and they will appreciate the experience. At home we can 't stop talking about it so a sequel will be a must see indeed!

This was a really beautiful film. The money is all onscreen, and the technology used is just stunning. Most of the attention will go to the 3D and to Pandora, but perhaps the most impressive effects are the motion-captured CGI Navi, who look completely realistic once you get past their blue skin. The eyes portray emotions and the movements are just right. None of the unnatural movement you see in a lot of CG characters. I even liked the acting and dialogue, which some critics knocked. This is truly a must-see event.

Great visual effects. We were able to see it in 3D. This effect is very good giving a very great sense of depth to all. This story's been used before (Dune comes to mind) and tends to get a little slow in the middle.

Fantastic movie, totally engaging. The audience actually cheered- something San Diego audiences seldom do. The CGI was stunning- the Navi eyes and skin looked so real! The 3D effect was very well done, with little details like flying seeds and insects, and floating glowing embers, just incredible. The world they created was so realistic. Almost like being there. If they added scents to go along with the visuals it would be practically complete. I'd love to visit this world in real life, but since that ain't gonna happen, I'll just have to see the movie again. It seems the story line is getting most of the criticism, but I enjoyed it. This movie was one of the best we've seen in a long time. It keeps you on the edge of your seat from the minute it starts right til the end. I would however caution children under 10. This movie lived up to 80% of it's hype which I consider rare. I thought the movie was good but the story (the message) was even better. It shows us how fragile our surroundings are and how we should respect all living things large or small.
The 3D experience was nothing short of amazing & unlike anything I've ever seen at a theater. However... 30 minutes into it, my friend and I felt dizzy and cross eyed so we had to leave and watch a non 3D version.
I would have given this 5 stars had the 3D not had a negative effect on our eyes.

Visually impressive, James Cameron succeeds in creating a world that is every bit as real and as beautiful as the 'planet earth' series. It even shares Sigourney Weaver. Unfortunately the emotional depths are pretty much the same as watching a great travel documentary. There is nothing in the characters or the story that will stick with you after watching the film. If you're going to spend this much money creating such a beautiful film, couldn't you come up with a more original story line than Dances with Wolves? Even the song over the end titles was a poor Titanic imitation. Overall, worth seeing once on the big screen but definitely not a classic

This is one of the most beautiful movies I have ever seen. The 3D really immerses you in the world of Pandora. It makes you feel like you are really there with the characters. The story was wonderful and the actors were great. I highly recommend seeing this in the theatre while you can. You won't regret it.

A movie that will change the way you see the world. I have only seen this movie once so far but competely plan on seeing it at least once more. This movie lives ups to James Camerons legacy as a writer and director of movies. The world he created is spectacular and the story and plot of this movie are amazing as well. For those that have said the plot sucks then they need to stick to the childrens genre of movies. Granted it is not the most detailed plot I have ever seen but it is one that keeps you held tight within its grasp. Love, action, drama, suspense are all in this movie. See this movie or you will be missing out!

Highly recommend this movie. I haven't seen a movie this good in at least 10 years. The 3-D effect was great, just make sure to not be in the front or side cause it can make you dizzy.
