Having watched several thousand movies in my lifetime, I can say this is one of the best. I saw the IMAX 3D version. Visuals are stunning. Immersion was excellent. Story line very good to excellent. The 3D CG Is beyond your wildest imagination. It is such a treat for your eyes that you will completely understand why it took 15 years to make -- they were waiting for the technology to catch up to Cameron's Brain! The storyline is also very strong and 100% captures your attention for the ENTIRE 2 hours and 40 minutes (yeah its long). You would be doing yourself a serious disservice if you did not check it out in at least Digital 3D. See it in IMAX 3D if you can.

I saw the movie in 3D. I believe this is the best way to see this movie. The special effects are tremendous! Mixing real actors with cg animation is normally disappointing. Not here. The characters mix on screen flawlessly. Even though the movie is long by some standards; I never once moved or wanted to move from my seat.

The best fantacy film ever. Special effects are stunning, the ideas and concepts highly original and the pace is brisk.
As original and fantastic as this film was, the story line was not. Once again commerce takes it on the chin as the root of all evil and destroyer of aboriginal populations. While there is undoubtedly truth in this premise, it just struck me as being the one part of this movie that was distinctly un-original.
Because the story line is such an old one, we knew what was going to happen long before it occurred. Despite that fact, the journey was still fascinating and full of new delights in every scene.

Saw this movie in 3D at a MUVICO theatre with a Sony 4k projection. There wasn't an over the top use of 3D. The use of 3D provided depth. Seeing this movie in 3D is a must for those who are movie buffs but for an average viewer, like my wife, non 3D would be better.
Without giving away any spoilers, the story and plot were very predictable and sorta cliche-ish. The world he created had elements from his undersea diving adventures between the making of Titanic and Avatar.
Overall, this is definitely a movie to be seen, for the first time, in a movie theater and not on a home theater screen. There is just so much to consume from the vast world that James Cameron created that a small screen just won't give you the same experience.

This has to be one of the best movies of all time. James Cameron really out did himself and seeing it in RealD 3D adds just the right amount to enhance all of the special effects. Sigourney Weaver is outstanding and perfect in this role and the rest of the cast isn't far behind her. Animation and special effects blow anything else out of the water. I had no desire to see this movie but kept hearing good things about it. Our family went last night (we have two boys 8 & 11) and we all loved it! Some bad language for kids but not horrible. Beautiful story in a beautiful setting. We sat toward the back of a large stadium seat theater which was perfect to "take it all in". This was one of those rare movies where I feel like we REALLY got our moneys worth. It was almost more like going to an event than it was just going to a movie. Enjoy!!

My 14yo son and I really enjoyed this film. He rates it "best movie ever seen"! We payed extra for the 3D version and I am really glad we did. I felt the integration of live action with computer generated figures was seamless and really contributed to the feeling that the avatar character was as real as the human. I plan to see it again.

Amazing Movie. The storyline was creative, inventive and very engaging. The effects, especially in 3D, were incredibly powerful. My entire family, 6 and 8 year old included, was completely mesmerized from beginning to end. My 6 year old asked if we could see it again. My response -- ABSOLUTELY!!

I agree the special effects are incredible and for that alone the movie is worthwhile watching. However the most incredible thing to me was that I believed inthe characters. I cared about the alien beings, their world everything that was happening to them. This was more than just ugly humans against gentle aliens it was the epic struggle of good vs evil... and a metaphor for our raping of our own planet for greed. EXCELLLENT MOVIE

A visually stunning experience. I truly enjoyed the beautifully poised physicality and athleticism of the Na'vi tree- loving beings. They are forest people. The moral of the story is important to our survival as a species on planet earth. Great instruction on the ecology of life around us and our psychic connection to it all. Sad as well, that it also depicts the exploiting , obliviously destructive capacities of modern man dissociated from nature. I love the healing relationship to trees at the center of their lives.
