My husband and I seen the film on Christmas Day and absolutely loved it! It starts off a little slow but the effects are so great you don't mind them taking time to se t up the story. Would totally recommend it andd it is one of the few movies I could see again.

My college aged son chose this for the 4 of us to go to on Christmas. I went thinking I would not like it. I enjoyed it so much. Yes, the plot line on the surface reminded me of 4 other movies, but I loved the animals, plants, and humanoids of the planet. I also loved the underlying idea of the " tree" life on the planet. It's a long film so watch your liquid intake, you don't want to miss anything. The special effects are wonderful. I recommend this!!

Visually this film was stunning. The creativity and imagination seen here are noteworthy. The weakness of the story is this films downfall. Nothing we have not seen before—from King Kong to Dances with Wolves. The ugly Americans who stop at nothing to amass real estate and natural resources while eliminating the indigenous peoples. Huh? I thought we were all just one big happy global family now.
Bottom line: Worth seeing. Beautiful film. Could have been shortened but it moves quickly. Routine plot twists. Anti-American sentiment.

With all the hype on this movie, it would be hard to live up to expectations. However, Avatar did not disappoint. I would recommend it highly. Was it the greatest movie I ever saw? No. Mostly because the story It's a story we've heard before and the characters were cliche. However, the visuals make up for this and more. We were transported into a world like we've never seen. It all looked to real. The 3-D was used to make the visuals pop, not for gimmeckry. Very smart. I will see it again.

3d sure has come a long way, not only the effects but the story line really draws you into the movie, yes it is a tad long but you don't feel like you wised it would pick up or get over with. (don't drink a large coke before or during the movie). My only compliant is the under tones of earth worship, but then it is a science fiction. Avatar 3D was visually stunning. Wish they would have invested some of the $400 million budget in a script. We've seen every plot element many times before. But it is astounding to look at. Well, was it worth the anticipation and the ten-year wait? Probably. I will say that the CG and art direction and the overall effect of the film was awesome. But the weakness of the story hurts this film tremendously. I don't know if anyone else has used this line, but "Dances with Aliens" comes to mind. This was a story that could have been told in 90 minutes. Stretching it to 2-1/2 hours, with fairly routine plot twists and set scenes, made it weaker.

I'm easy to please I guess. It is obvious that "professional" movie critics are hired to find something bad in every movie they critique. The only bad thing I could find was that it was too short. Dissapointing is what I would call this, it could have been so much better. The basic plot looks like it was taken from the childrens section at the local environmentalists book store, or maybe a Capitan Planet episode rip-off. Amongst all the cool sci-if effects Cameron used, does he realize all the materials that had to be mined to make all HIS movie-making equipment! I doubt it, just another tired anti-American rant, pretty much a Michael Mooreon movie with special effects. Next time, just give me the planet Pandora w/o any humans!

The plot is basically Dances with Wolves set on a distant moon. Substitute the Navi for Native Americans. The girl is similar to Pocahontas. The dialog is well written. Not only is very well done from the technical point of view of graphics, plotline and character construction,but the timing of sequences and the transitions make it absolutely enjoyable. Avatar in 3D is an extremely entertaining movie. The effects are great, the story line is easy to follow and there are good guys, bad guys, adventure and romance. What more could you ask for. The environmental agenda is a little strong, but it may need to be right now. I think we are all a little tired of a few wealthy elite controlling all of the worlds resources under the name of a corporation. It needs to end. If Avatar wakes up a few more people to what is really going on, then it may become more than just and entertaing science fiction film. It may be the beginning of a global movement for every citizen of the world to band together and take back our planet from a greedy, obscenely wealty few before it is to late.

This was a huge waste of my time. Turns out others I know with half a brain who have seen it recently have the same regrets. Very disappointing. All that money spent on bling without any substance. Is it really that hard to come up with anything approximating an original plot to show off some new tech device?

This is by far one of the best movies I have ever seen! And, at 61, that is a lot of movies. The story line, the acting, the animation - everything - was supurb! And, I haven't seen a 3D movie since they first came out too many years ago. This was different and it was very good. Rather than jump out at me, I was taken "in" to the scenes. Great movie and highly recommend even for those who are not much into the science fiction genre. There were LOTS of 'messages' in the story line.

As expected, James Cameron has put together a spectacular film, but if you are an American Patriot, save your time and your money. The first 1/3 of the film is a magnificent sci-fi adventure with believable effects, scary scenes, and an enticing story-line, but then then the movie quickly digresses into an anti-military, anti-capitalist, tree-hugging, socialist bonanza that (to me) plays on the historical removal of native americans from our country, amongst other things. Very very disappointing

Yes the story itself has been done one way or another but combined with the action, drama, imagination and the amazing graphics I can say this is the BEST movie i've seen in the last decade. Graphically, possible the best ever!!
