Don't usually like long boisterous epics, but the visuals were so captivating, I felt as though I were witnessing a competely new form of entertainment. A visually stunning adventure of high quality digital art and color....Good story line,the usual good vs.evil, and a bit of a love story...basically, a high tech fairytale...but well executed and worth the money. A "must - see on the big screen". 3D a plus. The performances of the actors were excellent, but the star of the movie is the art. James Cameron, your imagination is a gift to all of us.

The special effects in this movie were the best I've ever seen. You literally could not tell between what was real and what was CGI. Also, I saw it in 3D and I appreciated the fact that it didn't have effects solely for the purpose of being 3D. Great story, as well.

One of the best sci fi films I have seen since Star Wars wow'ed us 3 decades ago... breathtaking visuals and a story line that served as a sad metaphor of what is truly happening with the human race today, our selfish greed, and total lack of respect for our rare and valuable natural resources.
I found it somewhat disturbing that everyone in the audience clapped when the "bad guy" humans were being killed. They were, after all, on Pandora attempting to save OUR race... we should learn from the horrid mistakes!
The movie is a must see.
One side note, I was able to manage the 3D visuals just fine, but more than one friend and my husband experienced significant nausea from the 3D effect.

Due to the popularity of the film we pre purchased the tickets on line. Good thing or we never would have gotten in the theater. We arrived about 40 minutes early, also good idea as we got to sit together while others arriving later had to split up their parties. The movie had the best special effects, story line was good...science fiction/fantasy. Our group ranged from 51 to 17 yrs old...and everyone came out with the same comment...wow...best show ever.

First of all: what an amazing journey ! While the story line is predictable this does not take away from the movie. Acting and character development are excellent, you feel for the characters. The fact that 60% of the movie are done in CGI takes a backseat - the characters and scenery envelop you and transport you into a different world. Imagery and sound effects are stunning. With (almost) no cheesy 3D effects, the 3D technology here works well to immerse you into the scenery of a phantastic world. I'm still thinking of this movie as if it was a real place. The story was incredible. Some said it was drawn out..., but I could have sat and watched for another hour. We saw this in digital 3D and WILL go back to see in IMAX 3D. Just an incredible experience beyond my expectations. Wondefully done and looking for more like it in the future! Btw, buy tickets early online and get to the theatre early - like 45 minutes early if you want choice seats.

Great spectacle. I loved the digital animation, the dramatic colors, the outstanding scenery (floating islands, mountains, giant waterfalls). Plot was a little thin and characters tended to be one dimensional, but I found myself emotionally engaged as the film depicted the Avatar being treated much the same way American Indians were treated by the Europeans, except that this time the Indians won.

Definitely a breathtaking experience! The special effects were awesome and we often felt like we were in the midst of the movie
It's an intense movie and, as long as you're available to talk about it, it's ok for kids younger than 13. (Though I wouldn't go much below 10 unless they're fairly mature.)
We'll definitely pick this one up on DVD when it comes out.

Few movies artistically manuever through the emotions that this movie invokes. It contains something for everyone - action, romance, villans, unexpected heroes, and did I mention action? Great movie. Arrived 30 minutes ahead and still had to sit in the front row, due to popularity of this movie. Special effects were awesome but after a couple of hours, my eyes started to dry out. Would recomment though.

Make sure you see this in 3D. That's what makes this movie. There's nothing else. You'd think spending that much on a movie would include spending to get a script that doesn't use every worn-out action-movie cliche in the book. It's Cinderella meets Terminator meets Lord of the RIngs. The earth-based spirituality that might be explored is superficially presented, reduced to unbelivable magic, and the dialogue and characters are all the ones you've seen before. I would recommend this movie to anyone! Classic story line...good vs. evil...tastefully done. A couple of bad words that could have been left out without impacting the story but they were nothing my kids haven't heard before. They happen so fast I don't think my kids even cought them due to all the surrounding action. Do your kids a favor, spend some time with them an see a great movie at the same time....beats Snow White!!!!! Caught the movie on matinee for 6 bucks each.

Avatar fully lives up to promotional material. The 3d visual effects are excellent. You get pulled into a sensuous natural world of elaborate detail and stunning color. The story line is boilerplate love and action, with a "hollywood ending." Still, the development of the plot is interesting enough, and carries the special effects well. I left very happy I'd seen it.

the design and graphics to this movie were incredible. 3D was very cool. And just like one of the other reviews, i was comparing it to the original star wars - it sets the bar very high.
