I am a Nicolas Cage fan but I didn't care too much for this movie. I was SO glad to see they didn't try to "overact" the New Orleans accents in this movie but I did find the movie a little disturbing being from New Orleans. I liked it somewhat but wouldn't recommend it to anyone else - just one of those movies!

Bad Lt is a pretty good movie. Unforuately they decided to us the "Bad Lt" name. It makes it sound like a remake or a sequal. It is own movie. The downside is that if one is looking for the raunch and shock and graphic nature of the Harvey Kietal film, it is not there. This is a wide realease feature film. I don;t even think it shows breast in this one. I know I will get flammed, but I think this movie may be better shot and paced then the earlier films. there is a running reptile theme as Nic Cage descends into madness. There are guite a few set pieces that have a steady coherent flow. Looks like Cage got his groove back!

Nick Cage's best character role and best performance in a long, long time! There is more irony & Kismet in this story than any 10 films you might pull out of a hat. Quirky, original, unexpected....this flick will have you on the edge of your seat, shaking your head in disbelief and sometimes laughing at the sheer "weirdness" of it all. The movie is seasoned with top notch actors, above average cinematography, perfect dialogue, a quality script....and a perfect ending (that I did not see coming until the last few minutes)! Leave your iguana at home & head to a nearby theater ASAP to catch this gem of a tale!

As a resident of New Orleans I found Bad Lieutenant to be completely inaccurate and a negative portrayal of a city still trying to recover. The acting was pathetic, the story ran in circles, the cinematography was attempting to be edgy but came off as amatuerish, and there were no redeeming characters or qualities. What I found most reprehensible was that Nicholas Cage and Val Kilmer, both fans of New Orleans, would make this movie and profit from a bad depiction of the city and its residents. If this movie is released nation-wide, the impact on New Orleans tourism and overall economy could have severe ramifications. I could not stomach the entire movie and left half way through.

Herzog directs his most mainstream Hollywood movie to date. The movie is a success and even an improvement on the Bad good cop theme and at the same time retains the amusing and interesting point-of-view quirkiness characteristic of WH.

We love Herzog, so ran to see this film. especially since we'd just returned from New Orleans. The film did not utilize the great port of New Orleans. Just slivers here and there of Herzog's POV: An Alligator killed dead on the road,its mate watching from the brush. A pair of Iguanas that only Cage can see. One Antebellum home, which by-the-way, tour buses visit and tromp though daily, and a few shots of the 9th ward with homes that still had post Katrina "search tags" written on their walls, It could have been anywhere, and I hear the story was originally about NYC. As for Cage, he was perfect I guess to play this drug addicted character. But you don't care about any of them.
