This film takes to the time and place where Freudian psychoanalysis began and fought to be recognized as "the way, only to be met by a tortured Jung who felt there had to be a higher way. As Jung states. "Sometimes one has to commit unforgivable acts to go on living," and he does. Keira Knightley was spellbinding as Sabina Spielrein, a young woman who fights for her life on so many levels. The settings lavish and accurate. Viggo Mortensen and Michael Fassbender were excellent. An important film, go see it.
This move had so many fine actors in it. Ryan Gosling is mesmerizing to watch in anything. Marisa Tomei as well. Phillip Seymour Hoffman, the best and Paul Giamaitti (ck sp) Heavy hitters all, But this film was lame. We were surprised how poorly directed it was, and badly edited. The story line, had it's moments, but was boring. I don't know. we ended up not caring about any of them, and we were disappointed in this film that we rushed out to see.
Buck is a beautifully filmed and told true story about a man of deep dignity and humility who through his own pain becomes a healer, of troubled horses in this case, but also the troubled people who own and care for them. It's a story that held us spellbound for the entire length of the film. For all ages, a wonderful film.
We really enjoyed this film. Showed us about a part of America we know little of. The actors were hilarious. It moved as we move in real time, no murders, no car crashes, just real problems being solved by limited people. Great film to see you want to relax, laugh your head off and then go home and sleep soundly.
I had to look away from this film, more than look at it. Everyone talks about how great the acting was. Who cares if the story is rancid how good the acting is? Who wants to see a self loathing, cutter, vomiter, psychopath twirl around the stage and imagine hideous things? A ridiculous film. Don't be fooled by the hype. This is a sick film that will leave you feeling ill. If that's what you want to feel after a film, then by all means go see it.
We love Herzog, so ran to see this film. especially since we'd just returned from New Orleans. The film did not utilize the great port of New Orleans. Just slivers here and there of Herzog's POV: An Alligator killed dead on the road, its mate watching from the brush. A pair of Iguanas that only Cage can see. One Antebellum home, which by-the-way, tour buses visit and tromp though daily, and a few shots of the 9th ward with homes that still had post Katrina "search tags" written on their walls, It could have been anywhere, and I hear the story was originally about NYC. As for Cage, he was perfect I guess to play this drug addicted character. But you don't care about any of them.
I found Anna to be so alone as a character, hidden in every way she could find. She's a sad woman even with all her power. Andre Leon Tally offers comic relief as a Bafoon. Collasped on a tennis court with his water bottles ensconsed in LV cases. Ridiculous. Grace Coddington is the real artist here, and the most interesting of them all. She's makes incredible haunting photographs. What is also worth noting is that all the artistic makers of this magazine, except Anna, wore black, and seemed to not care about their hair, or look, comfortable in their skins, they did not subscribe to what the sell, and few had any work done, they might have had minor botox, but that's about it. Grace is the one you should all strive to be. She makes art.
Most interesting and funniest movie we've seen in ages. Paul was, as the director/writer thought/dreamed he would be, perfect for this role. All the actors were excellent. The conceit used was brilliant. We left thinking and talking about this movie, that lead to further pondering about our relationships to our own souls, soul fragments and everything in between. Go.Go.Go. See this film. If they had six stars we'd give it a six star rating
This move is not what I thought it was going to be. Rather it gave us an inside out portrait of GW Bush and his army of advisors, all of helped us get where we are today. Only Colin Powell fights the madness, but even he then joins in. Beautifully acted and heartbreaking. You do end up having empathy for W at the end, but is that a bad thing? It seems the film maker started out one way and through his willngingness to take an honest look at W, ended up with empathy, which makes lots of people angry. But Stone took an honest journey and that's were he ended up. So even though I am a devout Democrat and Obama supporter I was and am willing to look for the humanity in us all.
The previews were the best part of this film, followed by seeing the brilliant Kevin Spacey strut his stuff. The story is stock-footage, and although the side-kick characters were interesting as actors, their characters were not fully drawn. The action scenes were repetitive and predicable. Kate Botsworth is now your basic blond buiimic dead looking gal, and if that gets it for you...OoooK. Both the main character and his Mom, are so nice in a bored way it's beyond boring. We found the popcorn the best part of this film. A real dissapointment.
