There was not a lot of dialogue in this movie, which was a good thing becuase it really made the viewer connect with the emotions of Jarvis's character.

Fish Tank is a coming of age movie about Mia, an angry teenager who lives with her mother and little sister in an English housing project. It's a remarkable portrait of the ugliness of lower class English life, how poverty affects character, and how class barriers, if not racial barriers, are as strong as ever in England. The drama centers on Mia's mother's affair with a charming, handsome middle class man who brings a new level of civility to the household. The ending, however, is not happy. Brilliant performances by all the principals. At 2 hours and 5 minutes, it's a little long.

I got to see this movie for free and it wasn't worth it for me! It's a pretty disturbing movie and it made me feel uncomfortable at times. It's about a 15 year old girl who lives with her alcoholic young mother and her younger sister. There's no boundaries in their household from the lack of parenting so it's anything goes. The Mom's new boyfriend moves in and the plot revolves around that complicated situation. In general I like foreign and indie films but this one just didn't do it for me. Some may get more out this one than I did. But I think overall most people won't like it much.

Simply breathtaking. The performances of Jarvis and Fassbender are something to behold and the whole effort from Arnold is considerably better than the majority of domestic fare from the past couple years.

This movie challenges you... That's all I want to really say about it. I've seen it a handful of times now and every time it's been captivating, certainly entertaining, but definitely unique to director Andrea Arnold's style. Congratulations to Katie Jarvis and Michael Fassbender for their incredible performances in Fish Tank.

Diving into the human nature and letting the viewer swim back to shore, the movie will make you feel a true touch of reality and humanity with all its bad and good at once. Characters are complex, although simply human. Newcomer Katie Jarvis drags you directly to the center of her imperfect life and her struggle to understand herself, her desires and fears. Michael Fassbender delivers one of his great performances: intense and skin piercing, though extremely gentle. His interaction with Katie’s character intensifies over the course of the film, exploding in complexity towards the end. The film will let you wonder, question and decide each character. Andrea Arnold is simply not going to tell you a story she will let you see it for yourself.
