Although this coming of age story has nothing really new in it's tale of a young girl trying to find her place in her small Texas town, it does tell it's story with a lot of fun, great performances, and exciting roller derby action. I enjoyed seeing Zoe Bell and Juliette Lewis in supporting roles. My daughter wants to start roller skating now.

Great script with tremendous authenticity. Marcia G. Harden is a standout among this likeable, amusing cast.

This movie was amazing in many ways including the casting (mom, dad, sister, roller skating buddies, coach, best friend, boyfriend), and acting. The filming of many of the scenes was extremely well done, too, e.g., skating, pool, beauty pagent. A lot was packed into an under 2 hour film and it could have spent more time developing some of the relationships and resolutions to problems making them more real (e.g., mother-daughter-skating). SPOILER - this movie follows the recent trend of going "non formula" in a few of the many expected endings. I liked that you never knew how things would turn out, but my 13 year old did not. There also seemed to be untied relationship loose ends at the end. Ellen Page is incredible as usual.

Whip It is a good movie with solid acting and a decent amount of action. The movie is filled with some pretty good one liners which had the audience cracking up.
Bliss (Ellen Page) was a likeable confused teenager who found something she truly loved doing but struggled with her parents disapproval. Maggie (Kristen Wiig) does an excellent job as Bliss' mentor and friend. The derby scenes were enjoyable and action-packed.
All in all, Whip It is a movie that will be enjoyable for nearly everyone. And guys really shouldn't be afraid of going to see it with girlfriends or wives. There is definitely enough action, comedy, and plot for everyone (13 yrs and up of course).

I am a derby skater (in my fifth season) and was really heartened to see just how much of the real derby Barrymore and crew were able to get into this film. It's a sweet coming of age story with a derby backdrop. The skating was impressive, and while the derby rules were simplified, it didn't detract from teh plot or th egame in watching it.

There was lots of roller derby action, but also a nice plot of Ruthless (Eleen Page's character) coming of age, working through her relationships with her parents, finding her voice. Ellen Page is a great actress with a believable range of emotions, and the rest of the cast rounded out a great movie.
The dialogue was fun and and funny. I really enjoyed it!

and great acting! I really enjoyed this movie. It was smart, light and witty. As expected, Canadian Ellen page was awesome as the 17 year old who aspired to become a roller derby queen, while her aging mother, a former beauty pagent winner, had other plans for her daughter. Drew Barrymore did a great job in directing her first movie as well as in her supporting role onscreen. A great movie for teenage (and older) women.
