An underapprecuated Verdi masterpiece. Written after Rigelitto and Traviata it contains some of Verdi's best writing and a great although very confusing story. The job done by the Metropolitan opera with a first rate cast was first rate. Domingo acted the part wich made the presentation better than the sum of the parts.

I don't think many people are aware of this opera. I choose it for three reasons: 1.) I hadn’t seen an opera on the big screen of a movie theater 2.) It is a Verdi opera. 3.) It starred Placido Domingo I didn’t realize that there was another reason. It is all that an opera should be: wonderful music, wonderful singers, great costumes, spectacular sets and heavy drama. As a added bonus, a behind the scenes view of the stage hands at work and wonderful intermission interviews with René Fleming. All great stuff!

This was such an awesome Opera! Simply magnificent, I literally cried like a baby, so moving, so powerful! Unbelievable what a singing sensation Plácido Domingo is at his age, he was the best. Don't miss it if you have a chance to see it. I hope the MET continues this program because it is such a blessing to be able to see the operas in HD in theaters in Boston, it's really priceless!

This is a must-see. Placido Domingo in one of his best performances ever and his first in a Baritone role. Singing by all the principals is strong and passionate. This is Verdi and Opera at its best in a format that people (even people who never thought they'd like an opera) love.
