Saw this live at The MET twice. Experience in the movie theater is quite different;but very intimate and enjoyable. Next best thing to being in the opera house.Performers were superb; Renee Fleming's tear at the end of Act 1 was clearly vivible. Most spectacular aand beautiful ending of any opera---"the quick siler" dramatic final music.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Never noticed the 4 hour 50 minute length of this production. It passed in a flash. This is a great fusion of live performance presented with movie technology. I agree that these live at the met performances are better than being at the Met in NY.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

And only in the best way--absolutely sublime. Susan Graham totally rocks and Renee and Strauss is definitely a match arranged by the gods. If you haven't seen this one, check out the encore performance--we're going again!

I saw this yesterday and thoroughly enjoyed it from start to finish. The musicians and singers made the most of this Strauss opera. All the cast were stellar. Of course Renée Fleming was a real treat to see and hear, and the other main singers were well matched to her talent. I especially enjoyed the comic role of Leopold, acted to quite humorous effect by Met chorus member, Stephen Paynter. Kudos for an excellent production.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Some terrific things: sets, staging, superb costumes. Baron Ochs stole the show; audience loved him. Renee Fleming (Marschalin) very good actress, subtle, expressive, etc. but her actual singing not so great. Voice much tighter than ever with tremolo developing. Lovely singer as Sophie..Good Octavian . Really irritating camera work. Trying way too hard to find "interesting" angles; constant moving around with too many close-ups; this spoiled the incredibly beautiful final trio for me. Should just shoot as if sitting in best seat in house with only occasional closeups. Trust the music to do the job..Frustrating......I've seen many many Rosenkavaliers from late 60's on....thisone good but not great......
Yes, I recommend this movie.

The Met has outdone themselves in this production. The singing was superb, and the staging was excellent. The costumes were fantastic. I also enjoyed the interview with the principals during the intermission. I love going to the Movie Theater to see these operas as I find it very enjoyable and more relaxing than going to the Metropolitan Opera at Lincoln Center. I can eat popcorn and drink soda while I am watching a magnificent operatic performance

I am no opera lover and only went to this to please my wife. I have to say this was an awesome experience. Not only was I captivated by the singing and the acting, but the sets were breathtaking.
Watching the stage crew changing scenery was a show in itself - how they changed the sets in the allotted 20 minutes was miraculous.
The commentary between the acts along with the interviews by Placico Domingo added immeasureably to the entire experiece.
I was so taken by this performance I immediately bought tickets to Carmen in three weeks time.
Yes, I recommend this movie.
