The acting was superb and I loved the creative way the director presented this very painful and graphic abuse. Ignore that Oprah and Tyler Perry have their names all over this. You will forget all about them within five minutes of the film's start. anyway.
It is not always easy to watch this movie and it shouldn't be. The things you do see are only surpassed by the sickening things merely alluded to. Still this is a tale of determination and hope out of the most dire of circumstances and must be seen.
Gabourey Sidibe is a magnetic presence as Precious, To say Mo'Nique is outstanding in her role as Precious' abusive mother, Mary, just does not cut it. That she will almost make you feel sorry for the monster she portrays is the testament to her certain to be Oscar nominated performance.
GO SEE THIS MOVIE!

Acting was well done by the entire cast. Film lacked "umph". I don't feel the book was captured even a little bit. Too much hype over this film. I was disappointed. Honestly I feel that Monique and the others played great roles, but overall the movie was a bit over the top! I do not like movies that jump from scene to scene as this one did. I understood the struggle of Precious but that was a little over doing it for one person. She was going through to much for me. And seriously the profanity in this movie was a bit too much! If you do not have a strong foundation I do not recommend this movie but to support Monique and other African American actresses/actors I say go see it! Just thought I would warn you prior to seeing it. Just leave the kids at home cause this is not the movie for them...It is Rated "R" for a reason! Great job Monique though! But again you be the judge :-) My opinion!

This movie speaks volumes on the inner ability of the human spirit. I left the theatre speechless. I plan to take my teenage son to see this movie tomorrow, yesterday it was for the ladies. Families everywhere should support this film, it is real and it touches a path that very few are willing to travel on. I really liked the movie. Even though it had a very dark story line, the audience was drawn in and experienced a rollercoaster of emotion with the actors. I felt the cast did an unexpectedly amazing job in their roles...I truly didn't recognize Monique, Lenny Kravitz and Mariah in character. Gabby was magnificent, especially as a new actress. I am a public school teacher in Trenton, NJ. This film can and should be used as a teaching tool for students and teachers alike. Even though it has a few graphic scenes, it's reality! So many people are experiencing abuse and can't see their way out. This movie not only inspires, but it can give courage to those who are contemplating getting out. This movie was absolutely astonishing and so real all at the same time. It really hit home as I know this type of stuff really happens and so many people are quick to turn a blind eye.
I highly recomment that everyone see this important film as you will be hearing a lot about it come Awards Season!

While the movie is very disturbing and raw, the performances are brilliant. I was positively surprised by many of the actors. Amazing story - brillant movie. Highly recommended.

This movie was more than I expected. It had so many layers and messages. Lee Daniels took each actor to a dark places they probably never imagined. This story although seemed far fetched is not to far from reality. I hope each actor is acknowledged for their depth and Lee Daniels for bringing this story to life.

The story was dark and hard, but Lee Daniels went deep and it was great. I was floored by the intensity; moved by the perserverance of Precious; and reminded of the importance of the kindness of strangers. I'm usually not a cryer, but this one got me.

When I read the book, after the first 20 pages or so, my immediate thoughts were that there was no way they are going to be able to put this in a movie! There is no way..WELL they did! Absolutely. I've seen movies that were formally books & this WAS directed as written & each character played the roles from the depths of their soles. I only wish that the people who didn't read the book, could have known the stories of all the student's in the classroom, as the book tells the story & hear more of Precious' thoughts. But other than that, PERFECTION. This was a story that needed to be told and it needed to be told in this way.
