we know Adam Sandler is funny but this type of movie is more his style i saw this with 3 of my buddies and we had a good time one of the first movies i have seen where to many big name actors did not ruin it ,a little long for a comedy but funny as hell old people in the theater were laughing it was a good time

If you are looking for a fun time at the movies, this is it. Of course, you can see the ending comimg from a mile away, but that doesn't make it any less entertaining. There was plenty of laughter in the theater. After all, that is what you want from a comedy.

I thought Grown ups was a "Real" Funny movie. It had jokes that people can relate too. No stand up or far out jokes that most people don't understand most of the time. One reason I went to this movie was because it was oppressivly hot outside and my home air conditioner was not working too well. So, going inside a cool theatre was a blessing. In addition, I wanted to watch something "escapist" because I did not feel like seeing something which would , surround me with a lot of noisy kids,(think Twilight).
All in all, the movie was okay. The plot was not especially unique, and some of the acting was a bit overdone. Salma Hayeck was beautiful to look at, but her character was a little hard to believe, and really out of place. In addition, Adam Sandler as her husbsnd just seemed to be a mismatch. I also felt the depiction of the Hayek/Sandler children a bit over done.
The breast feeding mother character was simply over done., not credible,and tasteless. David Spade was not believable, and the Rob Scheidner character totally unbelievable and tasteless. Surprisingly, Chris Rock was a little subdued, and also mismatched for his part.
In addition, all the support actors were trite sterotypes, and more to be pitied rather than scorned.
In short, the movie was just one long joke, with a few funny moments. It is worth viewing in a pinch, however, only with your tongue in cheek.
If you wait for the DVD you won't feel as though you missed a lot.

Good movie, but not as good as the previews made it out to be. Its bascially joke/insult after joke/insult...there's very little dialogue; and it ends up hurting the movie to some extent. You'll definetly laugh and have fun but the slapstick is a little overdone and forced even for a comedy.

I was let down by this movie. As much of an Adam Sandler fan as I am, he did not deliver in this movie. The jokes were so lame and the comic timing was off. The story did not help make the movie any better. I suppose as a "family" movie it would be okay and acceptable, but I didn't go see it with a family, but in a date setting.

For anyone who was not so grown-up in the 70's it was a movie to feel good. Who wouldn't remember hearing "go outside and play". Perfect for summer, a few laughs, a few memories, familiar music and time to think back on a simpler life and appreciate what we had. The movie had it's moments of comedy and poignancy but some moments were too ridiculous or unbelievable. The clips were not needed or used as filler to make the movie over an hour long. Two examples of each: Ridiculous: Wiley in a body cast at the game rematch. Arrow-roulette
Unbelievable: String-cup party line communication Arrow-roulette in Rob's foot
The comedic version of Big Chill, this movie would be only recommended to friends who I feel would appreciate it, which means I can't recommend it to my wife, she wouldn't appreciate it.

The movie was funny and entertaining. I always enjoy Adam Sandler and Kevin James. The movie was well cast and although the plot was simplistic, it was heart-warming and carried a good message.
