The first half of this movie was interesting but the second half was was too long and too muddled. The movie could have been much better with more focus in the second half. There was no emotional attachment to any of the characters so I found myself just wanting it to end, not really caring what happened to any of them. Joseph Gordon Levitt was great and I hope to see more of him. I think this movie was a missed opportunity to have a really great plot.

I really enjoyed all the different aspects of this movie, even if one or two of the plot points were a bit predictable. It was an interesting mix of science fiction, story, and mind games. A great cast, and a great (new!) concept for a movie that didn't fit into the formulas we're used to seeing in Hollywood.

This is a very good movie overall. In a sense, it was similar to the Matrix, or other movies where a virtual reality was created, but this was a different take on that subject. Very creative, and loosely based in current fringe science. Definitely entertaining and worth seeing.

As in Memento, Nolan juggles layers of consciousness better than almost any contemporary writer/director. Inception is comparable to works by Kurosawa, Hitchcock, even Goddart & Bergman at offering immersible dream states as locations for exposition and resolution.
By teaching his new architect (Ellen Page) to pay attention in the dreamstate, DeCaprio's character actually teaches the audience to do the same. It's being conscious of where you are -- at what dream level and with what time deadline -- that give the narrative its drive and the action a tight grip on our galloping hearts.
Nolan nearly bit off more than he could chew, as evidenced by some in our viewing party leaving the theater not really sure of what happened. But both high school teenagers and middle aged film buffs had a grip on the plot points, meaning Nolan left enough bread crumbs for some of his audience to pick up.
In exhorting her colleagues to go one layer more, Ellen Page's character proved an essential hero and a mighty helper to the mark (Cillian Murphy), the client (Ken Wantanabe) and her new boss (DeCaprio). Her insights were keen -- we all could use a sidekick like hers.
Note: Did anyone feel that DeCaprio's yearning for his (dead) wife and his (living) kids had an odd parallel to his character in Shutter Island? Both had subconscious guilt about a personal failing that might have caused the loss of a beloved family and spouse. Here, DeCaprio (with Page's help) stays focused on the real; in Shutter Island, he cracks into the broken plane of the unreal.
Perhaps a more compelling reason for the client's initial hire -- corporate espionage is real enough, but to put the teams lives on the line in situation after situation, is breaking up a monopoly a reason to risk seven lives? Nolan thinks so.

This is a great movie but, no going potty, or talking during this movie or you'll miss something and be lost the rest of the time.
Inception is about dreams and going 3 levels into a dream. It gets a bit confusing at time because depending upon what level you're in there's a time difference. If you're in Level 1 it's 5 minutes real time; Level 2 20 minutes and Level 3 45 minutes. With a story within each level, that's where the confusion can come in.
Still, a great movie. But, I'll watch it again because I'm sure I missed things the first time around.

I sent to see this with my 14 and 18 yr-old grandsons. The 18 yr old and I enjoyed it, the 14 yr old thought it was stupid. I suspect he couldn't follow it. It was well written, but you had to pay attention to figure out what was going on, and people shouldn't go if they aren't ready to do that...

First of all, "Inception" is brilliant visually. Secondly, I loved "Memento" so I expected to be a little lost most of the time, which I was. I will probably see this movie again to see what I missed. The only reason I gave it four stars instead of five is that the snow scenes went on too long for my taste. I'm sure they were edited down as much as the story could tolerate, but it was endless for me. I LOVED Marion Cotillard and Tom Hardy. Also, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Ellen Page. I'm not wild about Leo, but he was fine in this -- a little more convincing than I usually find him. The ending... the VERY end, made my 27 year old daughter very, very angry. She was cursing on the way out and kept talking about it. For some reason it didn't bother me, but if there is a sequel starting with that ending, I will be angry, too, because I was satisfied at the end of this movie that the story was indeed over. Anyway, I was totally engrossed for the entire 2 and a half hours.

Good special effects but nothing new, somewhat dissapointing because we've all seen buildings blow up and cars fly around too many times now... the concept/ story line was too matrix-ish and therefore not really that original. My recommendation is based on the visual creativity of the film. It was an interesting enough story-line, although Memento is far superior, in my opinion. I did leave somewhat confused about a couple of details, but it didn't really matter. I wasn't interested enough in these details to try to figure them out. It's worth seeing.

I must give credit, it was a very creative and well written film. It started out confusing and tedious to watch but as the movie progressed Christopher Nolan did an excellent job of helping you to better sort the important pieces of the story together which drew more and more of your interest and I'll even go so far as to say more and more of your emotions into the movie. The movie progressed gradually all the way to the end where it had a major climax that kept you on the edge of your seat. Lots of movies aim to do that but very few are successful at pulling it off. Don't start smelling yourself Mr. Nolan. A James Cameron only comes about once in a generation. 99% of the writers and directors out there can't do it like him and for the ones that do they're only able to do it once, maybe twice in their entire career if they're blessed. Congratulations on you doing it "this time" though. Bravo.

Mediocre thriller that gets too wrapped up in its own rules to really care what happens. Yes, I was able to follow the convoluted layers and i knew exactly where I was - dream, dream within a dream, not dream, not dream within a dream, etc., etc., etc. I did find myself dreaming, or more correctly, snoozing in the middle when I could care less what dream level we had to get to or else! maybe we wouldn't get out. This is a really good movie. It keeps you on the edge of your seat all the way through. The plot is simple but plausible The real point of the movie is intrigue and excitment, though. I have not seen a movie since the first Matrix that was of any intellectual challenge whatsoever, and it was refreshing and inspiring to be gradually seduced into some degree of critical thought as the complexity of the "Inception" increased. Granted, the acting wasn't the best (Cmon, its LeoDi), the character development was a bit lacking, and the dialog could have used a little more snap, but once you dismiss those standard shortcomings, it is a movie that does what a movie is supposed to do - it pulls you completely in. I found, for the first time in a long time, that as it ended, I had become emotionally vested in the resolution of the plot hooks, and I had been 100% immersed in what was going on in the screen for the past couple of hours - which is very unusual for me. I usually get bored with movies and start checking my watch and wondering how much longer its going to go on. I didn't know or care what time it was, where I was, or how I got there (just kidding) as I watched that top spin at the end. Seriously though, it was an intriguing, entertaining, challenging, step outside your "bone box" kind of movie, and I highly recommend it over any of the other "action" movies that have come and gone over the past few years. Rock on Nolan!

I really enjoyed this movie. The plot was awesome, the acting was excellent, and the film was made well. It was exceptionally exciting I was on the edge of my seat the whole 2.5 hours.

Good special effects but the good part ends there. Great concept, weak execution. I kept thinking there is probably a good book behind this pitiful movie. When I was 12 I thought all movies were great, at 12 I would have enjoyed this.

After watching this movie, I felt like I needed an MRI scan, just to see what the hell my brain was doing. It felt like my brain was going through a rigorous workout just keeping up with the plot and complexities of the surroundings. The movie is very complex, but is explained simply enough to where you still keep being drawn in. Overall, excellent movie, but a complete beating on your brain.

This move is great if you're looking for something engaging that will keep you on the edge of your seat. There's no time for snoozing or going to the bathroom. It will require your attention the whole time in order to keep up. My husband and I really enjoyed this movie on our date. It was not very predictable and gave us good topics for conversation afterwards. In addition, we saw it in the new d-box seats (motion seats) and it added another level of intensity to the movie. It was great! Hope you enjoy it too!
