I had no idea what the story line was and I was pleasantly surprised. Since the movie is futuristic or sci-fi I don't think you could expect anything better. The IMAX/3D experience was wonderful. The movie is 2 hours and 40 mins. long but it didn't seem like it. The time went buy so quickly but I would not recommend getting anything to drink while watching it. By all means use the facilities before settling down to watch it because you won't want to leave!

I was not impressed as I should have been. The acting and story were unrealistic except for the amazing performance by ZOE SALDANA ( that girl deserves an OSCAR for holding that film together). The movie storyline was a bunch of films together with a new look. On the other hand just technically GROUNDBREAKING and Beautiful so everyone should see it as this will be the new movie style of the future!.

The 3D IMAX movie experience for Avatar was well worth the $31 paid for two tickets. I recommend anyone wanting to see this film get to the theater 15+ minutes in advance of the start time. We saw the movie on a Wed night at 630pm and it was packed!

There is no doubt, Avatar has raised the bar for exceptional movie creation. Fortunately, I was able to see it in IMAX 3-D and enjoyed it just as much the second time around. Everyone dreams of flying at some time in their life and this movie is as close to having the experience as you can get without jumping out of an airplane. Yes, there is a "Nature Love Good" vs. "Big Corporation Bad" message but you'll easily get past that with the action, adventure and deep storyline. By the way, why didn't they connect tails during the love scene? Ha-ha. AVATAR is an outstanding movie that I rate two thumbs + two toes up!!!

The visual effects are outstanding. The plot, though very touching, has deep Native American roots and a message of conservation that is real and highly spiritual. It is a wonderful display of history with a message. I will see it again.

The effects are great, but the story felt like a rehash of Richard Chamberlain in "A Man called Horse." Aside from that, Avatar is definitely worth the ticket price - especially in 3D IMAX!

Visually stunning, 3D without the glasses surely the future for movies. The story line was trite and clearly taken from Dances With Wolves. Whatever happened to creative writing in Hollywood? A movie about corporate greed; a film which is sure to turn an immense profit for its investors, talk about Chutzpah.

Movie was sold out the first two times we tried to get in, and I can see why. One of the few movies we've seen that we'll go back and see again while still at the theater! Somewhat predictable storyline in some places, but that doesn't detract from the overall enjoyable plot and characters. And I can't say enough about the incredible visuals. Congrats for not using 3D as a gimmick, but to help immerse the audience in the wonder of exploring this beautiful world. The crystal clear graphics of IMAX are icing on the cake!

Avatar was an excellent movie! It had a little bit for everyone. It was like star wars, G.I. Joe, with a twist of romance all wrapped into one. I did not get to see it at the Imax because the girl at the ticket counter said that they were sold out and no glasses left, so I had to see the movie in a regular theatre. No big deal, but there were tons of 3D glasses there. So, the little ticket girl lied saying there were no glasses, she just didn't want to help us I think.

Being a 60 plus senior, I remember the old color based 3D movies. Unfortunately, being color blind, the effect for me was not seen. With the extremely well done CG, the new generation of 3D, I could completely enjoy the 3D effects of this movie. The theme is an old rehash of greedy aliens (us) invading a planet and replacing their population with military force rather than understanding. The futuristic military equipment are somethings that are feasible and realistic. I would encourage my generation to view this movie as I did ... with much enjoyment.

Ok, I saw this movie TWICE. The first time I saw it I thought it was the most awesome movie ever, but the second time I saw it I really got to appreciate the beauty of it, analyzed it more in-depth, immersed myself in Pandora and formed a part of the people ...then I thought that this is definitely: "THE BEST MOVIE OF ALL TIME!" One of the most symbolistic parts that I saw in this movie was when the army destroyed Hometree...The fall of Hometree took a long time, emphazising, in my perspective, that the fall of a single tree is a very significant event and that it can impact and equally destroy many living beings...a single tree....oh! I LOVED IT!!

Saw the movie twice, first 3D then IMAX. I strongly recommend IMAX for the sound experience. The movies was not what I expected, but better. I love technology and wanted to see Avatar for that reason. However, the story caught my attention immediately and I found myself torn between paying close attention to the technical aspects and being lost in the story. I see very few movies twice, especially in the theater so this gives an indication of my enjoyment scale. Must see.............

This may be new to American audiences, but we came out of the theater saying we'd seen this all before. Anyone who's watched any anime has seen these same ideas and themes. Plus that fact that they beat you over the head with the "green" message, we didn't enjoy this movie as much as others. I guess I was rooting for the wrong side to win.

This is THE best movie I have ever seen. I loved the story lines... which not only touched on the American Indians and their way of life, but also how everything is connected and us humans, better start realizing it before it's too late. I also loved when she saw Jake in human form and that moment. Kinda saying... it doesn't matter how we look, it is who we are on the inside that matters. Then, there is the movie itself. The colors and imagery are undescribable. As someone else commented, I didn't want to come back to earth. Can't wait to see it again... and again... and sure hope there is a second Avatar!!

Now I know why my husband saw it three times in four days! Imax 3D version totally puts you into the action. Found it hard to return to Earth afterwards. Best idea was the interconnected trees with more connections (synapses) than a human brain. Plants are connected like that here on Earth as well. And when you add all the living organisms in the soil that closely interact with roots, you've quite a web. Felling forests and digging big holes has impacts here that we have yet to appreciate. Environmental messages aside, the action and effects were great. A few moments of disbelief when the hero was in his human body in daytime when he shouldn't have been, but that was relatively small dissonance.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Some thoughtful reflection would probably find some weaknesses in the film, but it was such a sensual feast that it would be unfair to say that it was anything but an incredible film that should be seen by everyone.
Good messages about protecting the environment, respect for indigenous cultures and the atrocity of shock and awe military might.

Many movies I have seen this year have not lived up to their previews. I was beginning to think that if I just watched the preview I got the best parts of the movie. With Avatar I never even saw a preview, it was recommended to me y a friend. I have wanted to see a movie in IMAX and this seemed like a good idea. In the first 15 minutes of the movie I knew it had been a great Idea. Unlike other movies that have slow moving middles, Avatar just kept getting better. Yes it was very predictable but I have never felt so intigrated into a movie before. The 3D is like nothing you've seen before.
This is one movie you have to see in digital 3D.

I saw Avatar in 3D IMAX. It's amazing how far animation has come, and that combined with the 3D made it absolutely stunning visually. However, the plot was predictable -- you can figure out from the trailer how the movie will end. Worth seeing now in 3D IMAX; don't wait for the DVD.

The film is very good: adventure at its best. The effects are outstanding and you do not feel the 2 hours 40 minutes it lasts.
The IMAX experience, however, was not up to expectations. The film was not shown in full screen, the 3D glasses were not the sophisticated IMAX ones, but bi-color specs. Despite the announcement, previous to the show, that all IMAX technical details had been preserved, I think I got the short end of the stick, by paying IMAX and getting run-of-the-mill 3D.

I was five years old when I saw Star Wars, and that movie changed my life. I had seen other movies before, and enjoyed them, but Star Wars gave me what felt like a whole new world. The sheer amount of detail, the sense that the "reality" of the movie went past the edges of whatever image you were seeing, the feeling that this was a place that was lived in, that had history. Nothing before had come close to that.
Avatar is, to my mind, the first film to move beyond Star Wars for the depth of the experience. Note, I am not talking about emotional depth, but sensory depth. The extent to which you get that "you are THERE" feeling.

I really didn't want to see this movie because I'm not into animation or anything sci-fi plus I heard the story line was kinda lame but I can honestly say I would recommend this movie to anyone! I saw it in IMAX 3D and although I'm not into animation, the experience was truly amazing and I was into the story because the images on the screen were so beautiful.
Don't bother renting this movie or seeing it not in 3D. But if you have an IMAX 3D near you it shouldn't be missed. I even recommended it to my parents it was that cool! Enjoy!
