I'm not sure what I expected, but it was even better. The 3D made me feel, for the first time, that these characters were actually in front of me. And, unlike most other 3D films, the colors were bright and vivid. I hope to see it in 3D in the theatres again soon.

Trite story, beautifully dressed up. Visually fantastic. Special effects carried the story until the trite, gratuitous violence ruined the last 30%. Good acting, luscious scenery, ultimately stupid story.

The graphics and 3-D experience were fantastic! The 2 hour and 40 minutes went by very fast. The story-line and ending had a good flow, that left you wanting to stay in this beautiful paradise. I will probably see it at least one more time!

This is truely the best movie I have ever seen in my life. There was something about this movie that will keep you on the edge from beginning to end. I watched it in IMAX 3D, which I think is how the movie should get watched. The graphics were out of this world, truely.

Best movie I've seen in many years, I will go to see it again. Great!!! I feel it wins in being so realistic. For animation you think it is real. You get trapped in the story. Bring the tissues it will get to you.

I think this movie is Awesome!!!
It has a nice story line and the effects are phenomenal in IMAX 3D!
What annoys me are critics who are quick to judge the movie for its "Tree Hugger" mentality and supposed racial/ white savior undertones.
Look people... its just a movie, written by a man who has a particular viewpoint... if you don't agree... don't pay $10 - $15 to go see it.
That being said if you're too blind to take away the good points from it, like respecting the world we live in, and taking the time to understand and appreciate the various differences on our green earth... we are definitely in a sad state of affairs.
Anyway don't listen to the critics or even me for that matter... go see the movie and make your own opinion! ;)

Amazing special effects . . . If you want to experience the artistic and creative talent of the writer/director, Cameron, catch this mind expanding adventure.
After the experience, I thought that the movie should have been named "Dances with Navi's", but upon further consideration, I realize that the story is the classic American "exploitation" of the native indigenants with a twist of creating an entirely new indigenous species - with their own religion , language, customs and look.
Kudos to Cameron . . . he's done it again!

I guess James Cameron's over reliance on special effects and CGI in past films has finally paid off! This film is mind blowing! You will find yourself utterly immersed another world. Unless you consciencly remind yourself that what you are watching is not "real", you would never suspect it. Truly amazing!
And where other James Cameron movies lack emotion, tension, acting and a plot, this movie has it all. Love, hate, predjudice, politics, empathy... you're emotions will run the gamut. 2 hours 40 minutes have never gone faster.

My family attended a showing yesterday and came away awestruck. The 3D viewing is my first in the modern era. Much better than the old two-color glasses of old. IMAX picture and sound were excellent. The immersive world created by James Cameron was phenomenal. We all enjoyed the plot and characters and it left us wanting a sequel.

I thought the story line, the casting and the pace were spot-on. The CGI was off-putting at first, but the actions and characterizations were good enough to allow you to lose yourself in the movie.I believe that the lead character was a bit wooden and the Colonel was so stereotyped as to be cartoonish (reminiscent of Chip Hazard of "Small Soldiers"), but Weaver, Saldana and Rodriguez were great.

I am not a sci-fi fan, but after hearing raves about Avatar I decided to give it a try.
Awesome graphics! You must see it in IMAX 3D, or at least 3D. It's not a movie you want to rent and watch at home unless you have a home theatre system. Although the theme of the movie is sad (Bad Earthlings!), the story line will touch your sense of what is wrong with how we are treating our planet and what our generations to come my have to live with in the future.

this movie MUST be seen in 3D IMAX experience AFTER having a few drinks... and with a couple chatty good buddies! Effects are amazing. Plot so-so. Too many obvious underlying messages (like about the native americans and such). The scenery shots can even get i-wanna-sleep boring. it's a thrilling movie that is a must see... but once is enough. enjoy

This movie is not only visually stunning but it has an excellent story as well. I highly recommend the IMAX experience when watching this movie, but I saw it in 2D also and that was fine. 3D has come a long way since I first saw a 3D film...it is quite an experience. Anyone with sensitive ears might want to take along some hearing protection as the surround sound becomes a bit much at times. Movies will never be the same again!!

If you have seen Pocahontas then you already know the story.
The IMAX theater was hot; to the point of sweating - and most of the customers around us agreed.
The only reason there are two stars for this movie is for the effects; I admit, they were great!

Com'on people, really. Don't be distracted by the eye candy. This movie is simple and preachy. OK, the message is fine, but why not challenge the audience a little more? We've seen this movie and these characters 1000 times, the dialogue is predictable and the plot unfolds like one of those picture wallets... just open the clasp and let gravity take over. The 3D glasses were uncomfortable and I think I injured my retina during the first 10 minutes because I was only about 30 feet from the IMAX screen. Not worth the $40 bucks to get me and my kids in... should have went to Playtime Pizza instead.

This being my first IMax movie I have been to ever, and this being the movie. I dont think I will ever watch any movie at a theater thats not in IMax. The movie Avatar on this format was amazing in all aspects. The sound and visual 3D effects made you feel as though you were walking along side the characters in the movie. It was simply amazing and I would suggest you see this movie only in that format since any other format would seem flat.

Great movie, with incredible visual and sound effects. A perfect blend of computer graphic interfacing with high definition video footage. The plot was excellent and characters a perfect fit. The AMC theater was nice although they didn't provide the best 3D glasses up front and then wouldn't let you keep them despite having charged you more to pay for them.
Most will love this movie or at a minimum appreciate the awesome experience it provides.

Incredible special affects and a fantastic 3D experience! I loved every minute of it and went back 5 days later to see it again. The environmental/spiritual message is woven into a great storyline that is totally engrossing and thrilling to watch. Great message about greed and dominance. I want to go to Pandora! (after "we've" left...)

I just saw the movie in Imax last night and I loved it! The effects were amazing and the setting was beautiful. The plot was somewhat lacking (reminded me of Pocahontas) but it was still a solid plot throughout the entire movie. The acting was believable and the entire movie can be summarized in one word: Awesome!!!! It is a movie worth paying to see in theatres.

Clearly an awesome story ranking amongst the top 10 movies I have watched. Leaves you with an "avatar love hangover", that feeling in your heart when you see a romantic movie. This movie touches you, and has something for for most people, except young children. After you see the movie even you wish to have an Avatar to find the simpler things in life, perhaps to escape reality.
