Take a big 3D Movie Pot (made from IMAX, preferably). Mix in a big portion of Dances With Wolves, add a healthy helping of Braveheart. To spice it up, add smaller doses of 'twin brothers' (also known as Eagle Eye), 'corporate miners' (use either Enemy Mine or JC's 'Aliens'.
Don't skimp on expensive ingredients, and cook as long as needed to get it just right.
Be prepared that your guests will want to come back for more!

This movie is like going on an adventure. The IMAX 3D puts you right in the center of the action. It feels like the characters are looking into your eyes and the scenery is about to touch you. The story line is FABULOUS and so very appropriate. Watching this in IMAX 3D changes changes the way I view movies!

Someone said Avatar is groundbreaking in the way that Star Wars was for it's day but technology has come so far since then, it's hard to compare. I prefer going into a movie with minimal knowledge about it. I heard part of the 60 Minutes segment with James Cameron on the radio which was enough to make me want to see it. I give it an A++ for creativity and imagination and yes the 3D Imax has taken us at warp speed into new territory visually and audibly. Anyone who disagrees has no appreciation for either creative genius or imagination. I give it 10 stars out of 5! James Cameron hit a home run. Gonna wait till the video? You're cheating yourself.

Saw this movie last night, (3 times the charm! Our first two attempts failed since the IMAX shows were sold out each time we tried to buy tickets--now I see why!)
Not only were the 3D special effects totally cool, the acting was solid, the action riveting, and the messages strong.
We completely loved this movie--I still can't get over how awesome the 3D IMAX Experience was added to a darn good movie!
Go see it! Spend the $ to see it in 3D and IMAX!

The movie was great fun but I ended up with a headache (combined stress of my glasses 3D glasses and 1st row seats). Loved all the effects! The story was a little Hollywoodish but I concentrated on the action and effects. I plan to see it again in the same theatre but higher seats. Loved the humor interspersed with the action, especially the enthusiastic cries by the young riders while flying through the "air".
Generally I go for movies with more substance and thought required, but still enjoyed it. I liked the "green" theme and anti-war references....go green!
I strongly encourage 3D digital or IMAX films...much more interactive. Love it!

The special effects were awsome. I had trouble believing that all the aliens were computer animated. I am not a science fiction fan, but was engrossed by this film. I also LOVED the IMAX 3D.

I was in awe with the gorgeous scenery of Pandora, and the story of how the humans and alien race interacted was intriguing. I think this movie's got action for those who like action films. It's got a good love story for those who like love stories. Above all, I think it's a good testament of what it's like when two different cultures (or in this case, even species) treat and view each other. It also shows the difficulty of a union between these different people, but of what true love and sacrifice can lead to. Definitely a must see. Recommend to anyone who has even the slightest idea/thought of seeing the movie.

Absolutely awesome, especially if you watch it in 3D iMax with the glasses. I was at the edge of my seat through 80% of the movie. The characters come to life on the screen and the detail is amazing. I felt like I was falling off the cliff with the characters in the movie. Avatar is the best 3D movie I have ever seen. I am going a second time to see it. As you probably already know - GET THERE EARLY for the best seats! I'm talking like an hour early. If you choose 3D iMax, sit center row in the middle section for the best visual effects. If you get too close (rows 1-->5) then the 3D images tend to blur a bit.

Just another Star Wars adventure, full of violence, no demonstration of expanded consciousness, which I mistakenly assumed would show up with the name Avatar. Using Avatar was a poor choice of name, considering a real avatar is nothing like the one portrayed in this film. A waste of time and money in my opinion.

For such an original idea, the story was incredibly derrivative--a cross between Pochahontas and Return of the Jedi (think Ewoks). The story also seemed to be a mere vehicle for the special effects, rather than the other way around, but OMG what effects!! This should only be seen on IMAX 3D, any other screen would be a wasted experience. The effects will absolutely blow you away, but expect the innovation to end there.

This movie is amazing! I've seen it 4 times now!! I RARELY see a movie in the movie theater more than once! I guess I figure I can't watch it in 3D when it comes out on video, so I better watch it in the theaters while I can. I've seen it in IMAX and regular, and I have to say its WAAAYYYYY better on IMAX! The sound is better, the pretty colors are better, and of course the screen is much bigger! I'd watch this movie 9,000 times! Its that good! Loved it!!

This was my 1st IMAX experience and I don't think I could have picked a better movie. I remember 3D movies from the 80's and it has definitely improved since then - especially the glasses. 3D, special effects and visual effects were outstanding so it doesn't matter that the story line wasn't anything new (greedy corporation, aggressive miliatary, etc.) or if the acting or dialogue was good. Bottom line - this movie rocked!

Finally, after more than 30-years since I felt a very similar trill as after watching the first Star Wars. Avatar in IMAX 3D as production achievement has risen the new standard for movie fantasies. It’s hard to tell if Avatar will have the same impact on world’s pop-culture Star Wars has had. For us on Earth the concept of direct linking between all living things on Pandora using sort of bio-universal-interface presents symbolic concept of coexistence in harmony with Nature, which in a sense could be simplified to knowing how to listen, how to read Nature, paradigm particularly important now, when facing global warning and inevitable extension of many species. Experiencing 3D walks and flights Pandora has unforgettable charm. I love it!

I'd give it a B+. 3D was real good, story was okay. We saw it in a 3D IMAX theatre which I would recommend.
Would not be as good if you saw it at home on your TV without the 3D. Story good but predictable.

The movie and the 3D Imax is a great experience. However seats to close can be too much, and be blurrie at times... I really think the theatres should not seat the very 3 front row seats for this movie, it takes away from the overall experience... This is not the movies fault this is the theatres flaw... anything real close up is out of focus and its difficult to get the whole picture in view if one is too close...Imax educate the theatres how to set up a great view for all to see...

Loved the IMAX 3 D. it really brought you into the characters and their environment. The story was predictable but a good one. A little too much fighting and explosions for me, but I guess that's the balance we have to endure to get the wondrous first part of the movie.

Best movie I've seen in 50+ years of movie watching. I'm a fan of science fiction and this is, in my opinion, the best and MOST BEAUTIFUL science fiction movie ever made. 3D effects are excellent but do not overwhelm the action. Imagine "having union" with your horse, dog or cat. On Pandora, you can. The moon Pandora and it's ecology are scientifically plausible. The flying animals are aerodynamic and convincing; the flying squences are flawless. Do not fail to see this one in 3D and Imax. It is as close as most of us will ever get to visiting another world.

Although the plot bordered on cheesy a couple of times, it did not take away from the overall effect of the film. This was the most beautiful movie I have ever seen! The effects, visuals, language, & concept of the other world (Pandora) blended together seamlessly to draw me into the total experience. I highly recommend IMAX 3D.

I loved the movie in IMAX-the 3D was mind blowing- however I actually got sick and had trouble driving home. I dont have previous history of motion sickness or anything like that. Maybe because it was my first 3D experience??
Either way if you do get motion sickness- Take something before you go!

Amazing movie. Held my attention for the entire time. Seeing it in IMAX 3D was nothing less than the greatest experience seeing a movie to date. The acting was great, the story was well-paced and compelling. Of course, the CGI and effects were phenomenal. This movie relates many stories and cultures from Africa, native americans, unfeeling capatilaism, etc. We were moved by the intertwining of all these subjects in a SciFi film. Well done.

Has to be seen to be believed. Brilliant vision, fantastic but pulls you right in. Plot felt a bit new-agey and 1960s, and bad guys were 1D instead of 3D - but you probably won't notice. Most amazing - closeups of characters, were amazing.
