The IMAX 3D experience is perfectly suited to the movie's storyline and Cameron's vision. Though the story contains echoes of many other great movies, such as Aliens and Dances with Wolves, these are movies that have become some of our modern myths. They are stories that everyone has to know to be connected with our current zeitgeist. Show the story in IMAX 3D, and everyone in the audience becomes intimately involved in the story.
It's one of those movies that everyone MUST see to be able to talk about it over the water cooler or on the playground, since every one else will be talking about it. Don't miss it. And, if it is in any way possible for you, see it in an IMAX 3D theater.

The movie is an odd mix of old stories...Fern Gully, Dances with Wolves, Pocahontas, Whale Rider and Star Wars with the ever famous Ewok forest battle. The 3D at the beginning and the end of the movie was very cool, but disappointingly lost throughout.

You've seen this movie many times. It was called Fern Gully and Braveheart and The Lion, The With and The Wardrobe, but now it is in 3-D. Seriously, the only reason to see this movie is to enjoy the 3-D. Don't waste your money seeing the regular cinematic release, this movie was built for 3-D from day one and that's the only way to see it. It's long and the story is unoriginal and predictable, but the technology behind the 3-D presentation is superb. And in full disclosure, I don't work for Imax and I am not involved with Hollywood or the cinema in any way.

No doubt, the special effects were the best ever in a movie, especially in 3d IMAX. The plot and story line were stereotypical hollywood: Evil, greedy corporation, assisted by uber-macho, whacked out Marine colonel, runs roughshod over the environment and the natives, while virtuous environmentalists work to save the day.
This one is Star Wars meets Dances with Wolves meets the Care Bears.

Regardless of what some have called a weak story, the special 3-D effects are simply awesome and not to be missed on the big screen. Can't wait for the sequel.
Would also love to see Peter Jackson do a remake of LOTR trilogy in 3-D using this unique cinemagraphic technology!

Liked it didn't love it.Story very familiar. My husband likened it to "Dances with wolves" only a happy ending.Scenery was gorgeous.3-D not as good a we expected. The scenes with the flying would have been better if you felt like you were on the creature with them. Thought the trailer for "Alice in Wonderland"looked more in your face with 3-D.

This was the 1st time my lady and I saw a 3D IMAX movie and we were blown away. The movie itself was basically Pocahontas in a futuristic setting so as far as the screen play and the story line noting new but the effects, WOW! I can't wait for Alice in Wonderland and any other 3D IMAX movies are a must from now on. If you have yet to see a 3D IMAX movie you don't know what you are missing, one word AMAZING!

This movie has it all. It has unparalleled action sequences. The special effects in this movie kept me on the edge of my seat! The IMAX 3D experience is simply unmatched. At times it felt as if you were in the very same room with these people. The sound effects were amazing, the visual effects were beautiful, and the story line was awesome.
Sure parts of it were predictable as one reviewer said. However, unless you want a horribly sad ending it would HAVE TO BE!! A+++ One of the best movies I have seen since Lord of the Rings, only more immersive with the 3D IMAX experience. This movie is on the level of Lord of the Rings, however, it is acceptable to take the girlfriend or wife too. She will surely fall in love with the Navi love story.

Visually stunning in Imax 3D. This will be one of the best movies ever made in my humble opinion. I did not think I would like it, going in. I am so glad I did not pre judge this and not see it. The storyline is also very good. See it in Imax 3D if you can. I am in the mid 50 age group and have watched a lot of movies in my time. Don't miss it or you will be missing out on one of The Best Ones ever produced. Wow, I would give this a 10 out of 5 if I could.

James Cameron continues his proud tradition of overcoming glaring deficiencies in writing, acting, and directing through the use of breathtaking visual effects.
While the images on the screen gained a dimension, the characters lost one, reducing each one to little more than a cliche with all the complexity of a secondary character on Dora the Explorer. From beginning to end, the story is unoriginal to the point of feeling plagiarized, predictable to the point of being boring, and insulting in the heavy handedness of its' cheap morality play.
Calling this science fiction or a war movie is a joke. This was nothing more than a formulaic attempt to build a new fanboy holy grail to replace Star Wars.

3D has come a long way over the years. Used to be for horrors only and tried to thrill you with objects coming out at you. Keep in mind, this is not the 3D effect it is looking for. AVATAR grabbed the 3D reigns and ran with it. The floating islands, the motion of the characters, Na'Vi, human, AND animals. It made for an absolutely wonderful experience.
The screenplay was good. As you will see the easily identifiable congruencies to the Indians of North America. The name and the tie with the land.
As an active duty military, I thought they hit the nail on the head in the use of language and thought processes. Some of the good guys, some of the bad, and those that have to be pursuaded to pick a side.

Great, Excellent, Imaginings beyond belief, But most of all Outstanding! As a former US Marine and a marathon runner I loved the first thing he does with his Avatar is run. For that 10% of the population that complained about the politics, violence, Native American overtones maybe you should go see it again (some need to see it 3 or more times until you come around) because AVATAR is right on in every way. See it in IMAX 3D and be WOWed.

To begin with, the only way to see this movie and get the maximum experience is in an IMAX theater in the 3D format. If you can get past the liberal and new age messages ingrained in the story, the movie is excellent. The special effects are nothing short of amazing. I didn't understand the purpose of having Sigourney Weaver smoking. It did not fit with her character and given this is a futuristic movie, it didn't make any sense. This is a must see for movie junkies.

The moment I left the theatre before driving in my car, I posted to my Facebook that the imagery used to create Pandora was the 2nd most beautiful thing I have ever seen in my life! And I just loved the movie. Fast paced, lots of action, a storyline that can be related to the audience. The effects were just a bonus but were also so breathtaking. Don't see it a normal theatre, don't see it in a normal 3D theatre, don't wait for DVD (it really will not capture the feeling) nor Blu-Ray. See this in IMAX 3D.

I thought that no other movie could take away the best special effects i have ever seen on a movie than Transformers I & II, but James Cameron proved me wrong. The effects on this movie are increidible followed by a good story line also. Definitely need to watch it in 3D IMAX to enjoy the whole experience. Can't wait for a sequel...

The visuals were amazing and I saw it in both IMAX 3D and without 3D and I can say that I thought that though the IMAX 3D didn't really feel all the 3D like other movies I've seen it enhanced the visuals. The storyline was intriguing and I personally didn't think the acting was sub par as I've seen many people say. This was a movie I thoroughly enjoyed.

A very well executed, enthralling movie. I took my daughters ages 9 and 12, and they were awestruck. The story line is part the American Indian experience and part the ongoing over-development in search of minerals and oil. The violence was in keeping with the story line, not gratuitous. It didn't seem as long as the 2 1/2 + hours. The scenery in 3D was truly amazing and the creatures really lifelike. It's really a love story, not a war movie as some other reviewers have commented.
