This is one of those movies that has to be seen big and Imax 3D is about as big as you can get. The character development was pretty fantastic as was the plot and story line. Reminds one of the theme of films like "Last of the Mohicans" where the underdog thrives. Won't go into too much more, don't want to give away anything. After you see it, google or bing Avatar the game. I was not familiart with it but learned a whole lot and Cameron did an awesome job bringing the game to big screen. A must see and maybe more than once!!

If viewing this film on other than IMAX/3D it would have been a slighty above average film. The special effects were fine. The plot was predictable, as was the outcome. Too long!

Afterapproximately a half hour the theater had a brown out and the IMAX film stopped. This was the same spot that it went down the night before. They couldn't get the IMAX machine back up before the next showing.
What a waste of time!

I was very impressed with this movie. Although I am not typically a fan of fantasy movies, i could see events playing out as they did in this movie if ever we found life and valuables on another planet. The 3D effects did not make me sick as they have in some movies in the past. The characters were also very attention-grabbing. Overall, I am very very happy that i went to see this movie, and even more so that we saw it on the IMAX!

This movie keeps you interested, entertained, and the scenery is breathtaking. A must see in 3D. I recommend, the Imax 3D, it was definately the way to get the full Avatar experince.

I have seen the movie both in Imax and 3d movie. The Imax version is by far the most amazing. I touched my how the movie made me feel. The story might be similar in other movies. But the emotional involvement that actually grew as the movie progressed through the various important elements.

Amazing effects, decent story.
Could have done without being hit over the head with the tree hugging hippy cr@p and anti military stance.
Overall, I think it shows us where the direction of films are going. 3D is quite an enjoyable experience when it comes to action / sci fi films.
Wouldn't want to see drama with it though.

This was a bad movie but it wasn't great either. I don't understand what the craze is all about. I would definitely recommend that someone sees it on the big screen cause I don't think it will be as good to watch on DVD.

I saw the regular 3D version, as Imax was sold out. My grandson told me it was an IMust Imax see. He was right. Took the wife to the Imax version and was once again amazed at the effects. I go to movies to be entertained and taken away.. the people that comment on the story line seem to miss that it is a love story and the other political, war story complainers seem to have their own political agenda, It's a story as old as time..just ask the native americans..

More then a movie, an experience. Have seen it in IMAX 3D three times so far. Will most likely see it again with more friends that i keep recommending it to. Zoe Saldana (Neytiri) needs an award. Worthington was amazing. You forget your watching a sci-fi. The effects are so amazing and the imagination so original it seems as though Cameron actually flew to another planet to film it. 2 hrs. 40min. was not enough. TRILOGY.

Visually stunning display of CGI technology, seamless effects, beautiful, excellent 3D; but I won't see it again. Plot and character development were flat and predictable with absurd political overtones. Lacking the visual effects, it’s a bad made for TV movie. Too much fighting and too little about the culture and unobtanium (dumb name sums up the overall script). Great effects masked a bad script and political agenda. I'd prefer a movie without the preaching, slamming, and stereotypical evil US military supporting US corporate greed. No love for our military or the US in Avatar. Visually stunning, see it for that, otherwise, it is a poorly executed juvenile comic book.

the 3D Imax experience was exactly that. Great movie for fantasy. The plot and characters were those of an old comic book with at best ancient weapons. If one could travel in space why use 1960's miniguns?

The right wing has Fox News and the Murdoch machine busily trying to shape the future with fear mongering. The progressive movement now has Avatar which has a high probability of shaping the world view of the next generation of humans. I may not see the benefit in my lifetime, but I believe it will have impacts far beyond its current entertainment value.

Ok, I absolutely loved all the magical scenery and the Avatar characters themselves. The music and sounds showed off their mystical exsistance. All the folklore that came along with meeting the Avatars, was ENCHANTING. But it didn't go to the point of mezmerizing you. It could have! They could have enhanced that part of the storyline more... and down-played the villian. But as usual, the villian was way, way, OVER-DONE. And he was the SAME old villian we've seen time and time again. Still, the acting was first rate. And there were some really unique creatures. I would say see it. But don't expect the second half to wow you.

This can be summed as 20 years of idiocy of the Director.
Why is the we claim aliens are intelligent and superior to humans and still show them fighting with bows and arrows against humans carrying loads of weaponry (gunships, missiles, bombs etc). How can the aliens speak their language (it is like some African tribe language) and also speak English fluently. These aliens have never seen the human face of Sam (only avatar face) but in the end she easily recognizes the human Sam (lets be little realistic). Overall the movie is much hyped with no substance, the special effects is mediocre. Dont waste time and money on this

Seeing this film in imax3d was certainly worth the price of admission. I witnessed some senior citizens giving the usher a piece of their mind because the film was too loud. I guess they should've saved their money and gone to the Harkins theater right next door...

Animation that seemed real. My wife was with me and throughout the movie, she kept saying Wow. That pretty much describes it.
She did not say wow that much flying over the mountains in Alaska. Quite a visual experience.

The plot was predictable, the characters fairly shallow, but visually stunning. If they had invested just a little more in character development and plot it would have qualified for the best movie *ever*. As it is, just enjoy the visual feast. Well worth seeing, on as big a screen as possible.

This was more than a movie. It was an experience. I really loved it - especially the flying scenes. My husband said the movie could have been better if they had cut out some of the battle scenes but I'm sure the young people - especially the boys really loved that action. My husband liked the movie anyway so that's saying a lot!!! I want to go again.
