The characters, the setting, the "machinery" all become "real". This is one attempted greedy conquest that was thwarted by the locals...How refreshing is that !!! "We" were the 'bad guys", and "we" lost the "war"....

This is only the second movie I have ever walked out on in my 50 years on this planet. Cameron stole concepts from The Matrix; Harry Potter; Surrogates; and Jurassic Park and combined them into a simple story only an eight year old child could appreciate. If you're into fantasy, this is an OK movie. If you're into Sci-Fi, avoid this flick. Though the 3D effects were initially stunning, after 10 minutes I grew weary of the only skin deep beauty. Lord help us if this is a sample of what Hollywood deems as the next generation of movies. I WANT MY MONEY BACK!!

I hesitated to see this, because I'm not into Sci-Fi, but a friend talked me into it. I was blown away at the overall experience. It sets the bar so high, that other movies will pale in comparison. If there are any negatives, it would be that sometimes it was just too loud (I had to plug my ears), and the story line was a little hokey, but the visual effects and the whole experience blows any negatives away.

I thought the 3D was still fuzzy, my HD TV looks a lot better. The I Max screen was awsome. The movie itself was beginning to end a bit over stimulating with non stop action. I understand why people see this movie over and over. Its an adrenaline rush. The plot was cetainly not very original, and this version seemed to lack some in depth back story. The real creativity was in the special effects, it seemed to overpower the story and I believe the whole purpose of making a movie is to tell a story.

Saw it for the 4th time yesterday. 3 times IMAX and once in RealD 3D. IMAX is the better of the 2 IMO. YMMV. Everyone complains that its predictible, well..guess what so is every other movie out there. Its about delivery and this movie does that indeed. The acting/characters was great, the effects/presentation was outstanding, and the storyline immersed you into the world of Pandora.

I have seen this movie in all three venues. Standard, Special 3-D standard and in I-max 3-D. In my opinion I-max 3-D was a slight disappointment in the rating standard. It did not have the depth that the Special 3-D has. Still i would recommend to a friend to see it. I-max is still the biggest and most impressive sound in movies today.

I loved this movis so much, I had a hard time leaving the theater. Not until the credits stopped showing the incredible scenery was I able to get up from my seat and start making my way out. I know there are plenty of critics out there that can't help themselves in trying to say it wasn't worth it, but I for one will be going back again and again to see it.
That said, the only 'minus' I would mention is the frickin huge 3D glasses that were so heavy I had a red pressure mark and even a small cut on the bridge of my nose from where the glasses rested.

This was an amazing, beautiful, larger than life film and experience. Seeing it at IMAX in 3D was breathtaking as well as the theater surround sound. This is a definite reason to go back to the theater, preferably watched in 3D and for the best experience at an IMAX theater. The extra cost of the ticket is insignificant in relation to the entertainment, the comfort of the seats and design of the theater that allows you unrestricted vision (no looking over someone's head). You will be spellbound by this film and will not be disappointed.

If you have the choice to see this movie in an IMAX or regular theater, send the money and see it in IMXA. There is something about IMXA that makes the action just a bit more real.
I would give this a 4.50. It is predictable and still worth the $$$. It is like Titanic, you know the ending before you get there, yet it is so well done, you just don't care.

Amazing experience seeing this movie in IMAX 3D. I kept ducking when things were flying towards the screen.
The movie itself was extremely engaging. It sucks you in and holds your attention right to the end. I didn't notice how long the movie was until close to the very end. There is no good time to take a bathroom break, so make sure you take care of business before the movie and go easy on the soda!
My only suggestion would be (this may sound silly, but I will do this next time I go go an IMAX movie) to bring something to pad the bridge of the IMAX glasses. My nose was hurting quite a bit by the end of the movie from the hard plastic of the glasses.

At a time when Hollywood fare has become all too predictable, Avatar offers an admittedly familiar plotline in an entirely new way. The format and the special effects are spectacular, and for that alone, I recommend seeing it. But don't leave it to a regular screen--to see this one in the best light possible, IMAX 3-D is a must.

In these days of worthless movies, this one has a freshness worth spending the money to see. Yes, there is violence in this movie, but as a person who does not support violence, I can see why it's there. To show that violence isn't the only answer to issues...in my humble opinion.
The cinematography is incredible and I would heartily suggest seeing it in IMAX 3D if possible. Don't wait for the DVD...see it in the theaters. I'm a person who would rather wait and watch it in the comfort of my home. NOT THIS ONE! You'll miss so much waiting for the DVD. This one is an Oscar winner in my mind!

My husband and I didn't know what to expect when we went to the show. Everyone recommended that we see it at the IMAX in 3D. What an awesome movie!!! You don't even realize how long the movie is because you become so engrossed. I would recommend that you see it in the theatre IMAX 3D. Cameron did it again!

I've seen this movie twice (this is the 3rd movie I've seen in a theatre in over 30 years). It was stunningly beautiful. The plot was better than I expected - I didn't think it was predictable (at least no more than most movies). YOU MUST SEE THIS MOVIE - AND YOU MUST SEE IT AS AN IMAX 3 D FILM). I didn't want it to end - I LOVE the characters.
