Whle watching this more-than-beautiful movie in the totally immersive IMAX 3-D experience, I found myself thinking of the indigenous natives of the Amazon Rain Forest, who face similar total destruction of their finely tuned ecology every day. I also thought of John Smith and Pocahontas, "Dances With Wolves" etc. Yet, the derivative nature of the plot does nothing to reduce the immediacy of the story, or the wonderfully alien yet familiar complexity and beauty of the complete world Cameron has created. Bravo! I must see it again - a landmark in sci-fi film-making.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Movie plot is simple - typical company wants land and must move/remove the natives. Very similar to what US did to american indians. Graphics w/ 3D are new a new technology and incredible. Interaction between graphic characters and real actors is seamless, no blue screne graphics. A must see....this is the new standards for movie graphics. Do not miss this in Imax 3D.

Take a relatively simple story and when James Cameron fits this to the screen,it becomes unbelievably extraordinaire.
The time fly's by watching this and the entire experience is just so good.Perhaps the best movie ever?

The good: The graphics were AMAZING! Cameron, you've really done it this time. I was pulled into the world the setting was in. The imaging was amazing!! It was VERY realistic, felt very real. it is truly stunning to watch, ESPECIALLY in IMAX 3D. I have seen it otherwise, and definitely not as good.
The bad: The plot was a TAD lacking, not TOO much though. The music blended nicely but wasn't quite enough for my taste. A bit cheesy.
The ugly: nothing.
Overall: I HIGHLY recommend this movie for EVERYONE. and a MUST in IMAX 3D. You will NOT regret this. If I lived closer to an IMAX 3D theater I would be going every weekend, no joke.

Ignore the politicians and pundits who attack the film for its honest portrayal of the human condition when placed in a position of need, and facing a seemingly weaker race with something they want.
James Cameron created an entire world and people, in a believable situation facing an arrogant and selfish super power. What happened was believable and moving. Only the self-righteous and cold of heart could be offended by such a film and story.

This movie was excellent, The characters both human and alien were both very realistic. The changes form the acting scenes and the "aninmation" scenes were smooth and fluid, and the 3D actually put you in the scenes. The changes of the goals of the characters made you relate to them in many ways. Pandora itself was beatifully protrayed, in both the beauty and the danger. Even though the movie was almost 3 hours long, it didn't seem like it, and during the movie you could actually here a pin drop it was that quiet. That to me is a sign of a very good movie. I would highly recommend this to anyone wanting to see a good movie.

The special effects were incredible. The forest and animal scenes kept me mesmerized. The movie moved very fast, and in 3-D IMAX the screen sometimes seemed to go out of focus due to the very fast pace. The story was predictable, a futurestic version of the Calvery vs the Indians. The battle scenes were very loud, my husband and I could bearly stand it. I did love the AVATARS --beautiful creatures! The continuous violence was over the top. I did not enjoy this. I caution anyone taking children.

The plot is rather predictable, and a good mix of several sci-fi staples, mixed up with a love story. At 160 minutes long, its pretty lengthy, but it has enough action to keep it moving. The effects were pretty incredible, however I would recommend seeing this film in RealD 3d rather than the Imax 3d. Don't worry about bouncy balls or chintzy 3-d effects of things flying at you-- not in this film-- it's more of an immersive 3-d. In the end, I would say watch this film for what it is going to do to the movie industry, not just for this story.

i dont know where to start because i have so many things to say. It was an awsome and must see movie, and once your in it you dont want it to end lol. Now I personally aint a scifi fan at all, but this movie blew me away...but you got to whatch it in Imax. Sadly, the story base is true and still is going on today. the main "bad side" is exactly what goes on here in our world. so its very touching in a way. i wouldnt mind seing it a second time, because it realy was good. it has been 6 hours now and im still in it lol.

I thoroughly enjoyed this movie and was immersed in the world that Mr. Cameron created - the man is a genius! But, I saw it in IMAX 3-D. Yeah, it was cool and all that, but I still find 3-D distracting and would have preferred plain old HD. The story was a litle thin in spots; however, Jake's first experience in his Avatar body - a paraplegic suddenly able to wiggle his toes and walk and run - was an emotional moment that had me choked up. Overall, I'd give this one a solid "A" and I expect it will win multiple awards on Oscar night.

Here’s a movie that has something for everyone; from a great love story, to epic battle scenes, to a magnificent score, the greatest special effects to date, and on top of all that an environmental message.
I won’t go into the plot but I will say that Cameron’s new movie is like a combination of all of his previous works. It revolves around creatures as cool as “Aliens”, it has battle scenes that make the scenes in his Terminator movies look small, and a powerful love story similar to that of “Titanic”.
The Na’vi tribe (the blue people) is very interesting and one of the most well developed and original species in film history.
All I can say is believe the hype for “Avatar” has it all. This movie rocks!

Yes, like everyone states, the special effects are amazing in IMAX 3D. The fantasy world created by James Cameron's CGI crew is spectacular.
However, 3 hours! After the second hour, I was antsy to get out of my seat. This is not Gandhi! And even Gandhi had an intermission.
I felt this movie was more geared towards a cartoon for kids. The plot was too predictable and some parts I felt like it was a complete rip from Lion King's music. I walked out at 2.5 hours...during the war scene...too loud...been there done that in so many movies. Dad stayed behind. He regretted it.
Go for the special effects, but don't expect a novel storyline.
No, I do not recommend this movie.

James Cameron has proven himself as a worthy director. Best character development: Sigourney and Zoe. Jake Sully, chosen one, is portrayed with emphasis as a warrior. It is questionable if his fight is for his love for spiritual binding of Na'vi & their deity; or the usual; "boy meets girl-boy wants girl back." This is evidenced by scene where interacts with tree of souls. He is not sure she can hear him or not, but asks for some help. His character in that scene would be more developed if he had expressed /reflected more of the spirit of the ways/beliefs of the people....deeper. Other than that, for an age-old story, it was richly done; and the IMAX experience enhanced the technology. It is definitely worth seeing!
