It was more than I expected even with all the hype. The virtual world "Pandora" created by the SFX teams was completely realistic and believable. The detail was beyond anything I've ever seen. The digital creatures and digital "make-up" for the actors to make them into Na'vi was awesome. I know it won't win any acting awards but it was a fantastic film. The pace was perfect - it never felt like a 2 hr 40 min movie. I will definitely see it again in theaters and buy the DVD next year.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Watched this movie in IMAX - 3D.
2 hrs 40 Mins - Went into the theatre with 1 Full popcorn and a Full Drink. When I came out of the movie, I still had more then 3/4th pop corn left and drink untouched.
Graphics beyond any movies released till date. Story narration and Screenplay were excellent and you would not want to waste a minute going outside.
Every scene in the Pandora land can be used by any LED TV manufacturing company to promote their televisions. So many amazing colours on the screen you automatically go into a dream world.
The movie has a strong message to the current world politicians about what we are doing to the nature for draining out the natural resources.
Must Watch movie - Dont miss it.

We saw this movie in Imax 3D. If you see this movie you HAVE to see in 3D if possible. This movie is the most awesome movie I have seen in many many years. Actually I would put it in my top 5 movies of all time and being 51 years old I have seen a lot of movies. The digital parts that blend with the regular filming is phenominal!!! The story line is wonderful. Sometimes when you get a movie that has great visual effects the story line isn't the best and vica vice versa. But this movie has it all!! I would go see it again and will definitely buy it when it comes out on DVD!!! The best ever!!

It is amazing to see how the technology keeps growing. Watching Avatar IMAX 3D was a mindblowing experience. The sounds and 3d graphics are so intense you would think you were right there in the action.
The storyline was excellent (although predictable), but you are so immersed in the story you forget it is a 2 hr 40 min movie. There were many small children in the theatre which seemed to keep them entertained, but I still don't think it is appropriate for small children (foul language, suggestive themes, violence).
Overall, probably the best movie I have ever seen. I would recommend seeing it in IMAX 3D, it is a total body expeirence like no other.

Plot creativity was very good. The colors and scenery of Pandora were super; however, I found the 3-D lacking in a way I can't quite put my finger on. The acting was very good. The time flew by and I never thought about it. Some action scenes were a little too fast for me and seemed more like subliminal messages. There was a great deal to enjoy - especially visually.

I can't remember the last time I went to a movie and was this pleasantly surprised. I went expecting the typical high-budget Hollywood action flick - all effects, no story. But Avatar surprised me. The story was good (albeit a bit predictable), and the visual effects were stunning. This movie is a new standard for what is possible in moviemaking. Go see this movie, and don't skimp - do the full IMAX 3D. It's worth it.

The movie absolutely lived up to the hype. The storyline was smooth and compelling, and never felt like it dragged, even though the movie was over two-and-a-half hours long. It was stunning visually; the interaction between live-action and computer-generated imagery was seamless. You don't have to see it in 3-D, but it sure doesn't hurt. Truly a cinematic experience.

I saw it in IMAX 3D at AMC theaters and enjoyed it along with my wife. The story is nothing to write about but the technical aspects were fantastic. Pandora, the alien planet, was really colorful and the 3D effects seemed to do justice to the imagination. It seems unbelievable how realistic animation has really become. The pace was tight and engaging.
I would recommend watching the movie in 3D for the digital effects and wonderful use of the screen. Not sure whether one will get the same WOW factor in 2D.

I would rate the movie 4.5 if I had the option. A really really well done movie that like others have said, kept your attention the whole time. The 3D IMAX experience was incredible as well. I couldn't however give it 5 starts because it just wasn't an instant classic and dialogue was a bit cheesy in some parts. I would whole heartedly recommend it though!

Avatar in IMAX 3D was an incredible sensory experience. Even if you are not a technophile, your brain is aware that it is being tweeked in completely new ways. You leave the theater ennervated and hyperperceptive. A must see in IMAX immersion. I recomend a late showing so you depart after dark to a relatively quiet city - it would be a shame to have bright daylight and noisy streets shatter the dreamlike feeling that follows a truly new experience. A wonderful story and well acted with the most amazing attention to detail leaves you feeling as if you have truly been observing another world.

While it is basically "Dances with Wolves" in space w/ Middle East politics commentary, the revolutionary cinematic innovations Cameron created for this movie was phenomenal. A must see in IMAX 3D and visually out of this world (pun intended :-)). While the story was predictable, the amazing facial animation does pull the viewer in emotionally. I will see it again, if just to see the little things I missed the first time around.

This movie was basically Dances With Aliens -- the characters were SO cliche ("the war-hungry hard bitten colonel", "the greedy heartless corporate henchman", "the noble savage princess", "the dumb marine who finds his inner ecologist", etc.) The plot was mind numbingly predictable. There were a few neat sci-fi ideas, nicely executed, and the production design was awesome, but that isn't enough. Also, at least in my theatre, the IMAX glasses were really heavy and uncomfortable -- 2h40min is WAY too long for a 3D movie, it is too tiring on the head and eyes.

Somebody had a lot of fun creating this movie. The creativity of the Pandora world was genius. The movie's action was pretty much nonstop, which is good since its a long movie (2hours 40min). One way I measure a movie is by how long I "feel" it lasts. This one didn't feel like it lasted 2 hours, much less 2 hours and forty minutes.

Simply the most visually stunning film I've ever seen. There were numerous times during my viewing where the audience audibly gasped at what was on the screen. Few times do movies with proclamations that, "motions pictures will never be the same" even approach their goal. James Cameron has done just that. Star Wars may have created the stunning bar in 1977, but Avatar has raised it to a level not previously imaginable. The IMAX 3D experience cannot be recommended too highly! See this film.

Avatar is amazing. The storyline will titillate greenies, families, children of reasonable age (little kids may have a problem with the violence), and sci-fi enthusiasts of all stripes.
In IMAX 3D, the movie is a CRIME to watch closer than 25 ft away. The 3d becomes distorted and vertigo-inducing, the effects become MUCH more pronounced where you can see them, but most of the screen is beyond the field of vision, and the effect breaks down.
If you go to this movie in 3d, and you cannot find a seat at least 25 ft back, leave the theater and DEMAND A REFUND. I had to leave the theater, and it took hours to get my stomach back.
The movie is amazing, watch the 3d version only if you can get a reasonable seat.

I really loved this movie--very imaginative, unique, spellbinding. Visual effects are amazing. I loved the 3D effects--until they gave me motion sickness. I think sitting in the middle of the theater would have helped that though. Still it was the kind of movie that while you're watching it you know you want to see it again even if it was longer than it needed to be (that's just James Cameron). Takes movie watching to a whole new level. Must see.
