I considered THOR to be outstanding in its CGI. The actors were believable in their roles. The screen play slowed down once only briefly which was not a deal killer.
Going into it, I thought we need to see it in IMAX 3-D. That was wrong. It would have been just as good seeing it in a regular digital format.
Overall, I say THOR is a very good movie - not excellent - but I feel I got my money's worth.
It was more than I expected even with all the hype. The virtual world "Pandora" created by the SFX teams was completely realistic and believable. The detail was beyond anything I've ever seen. The digital creatures and digital "make-up" for the actors to make them into Na'vi was awesome. I know it won't win any acting awards but it was a fantastic film. The pace was perfect - it never felt like a 2 hr 40 min movie. I will definitely see it again in theaters and buy the DVD next year.
The actors portrayed their screen characters much better than the first installment; especially Kristen Stewart, who put more depth in her role as Bella (except the motorcycle ride with the stranger scene - too over the top). I enjoyed the entire screenplay as I did the book except the ending - quick & flat. I still recommend it to all Twilight fans.
Having read the series, I found myself comparing it to the books. But the real issue was with some of the acting and the make-up on the vampires. Kristen Stewart was way too low-key, monotone voice throughout, no emotions came through. Bella's character deserves better than that. I felt the other actors performed their parts well; believable. I do hope they are able to spend more on the effects if they choose to make movies of the entire series.
If you enjoy the Chronicles' story, you'll enjoy this continuation of the saga. It is long but the intensity & great story line keep it going and going.
