There is a "wow" factor with this movie, much like when the Matrix was first released. Excellent story behind the characters with a simple plot. The effects were seamless -you actually believe the Avatar world was real when watching it (especially in an IMAX theater in 3D). this will definitely be added to my DVD collection when it is released

I have ready many of the reviews and there is nothing new to add. I was totally impressed!. The 3D effects was brought to a whole new level. I was immersed in the environment. They did not try gimmicky 3D effects to make you jump or be impressed with what 3D can do. With the technology available today, I don't think it can get any better. The story line is not too bad either. I hope more of this caliber will be coming out soon. As a comparison, the movie Up! was actually better in 2D than 3D as it was just the in your face 3D that added nothing to the movie -- IMO.

The visuals were good, but you can expect the same story line ingredients that are in disney films.
I also felt it was a little long too ... I think most of the 'valued experience' was the creative process behind the scenes, for the actors, film crew and visual technicians. I'm sure that was much more fun. Not so much in final product.

I'm in my 60's and don't ever remember being moved by a movie like I was with this one.
The story line was excellent, the computer technology was a preview of what is to come and the scene cutting and sound track were superb. You can relate to the creatures.
This is the movie of my lifetime, and in 3D no less. See this one!

While I felt completely immersed in Cameron's world, the plot devices were more of the same we vs. them used in westerns and modern intergalactic war films. It ultimately felt like I was stuck in a very long video game, rather than a movie. The spiritual touches are lovely, but even the CGI animals look like those from Spielberg films and other sci-fi flilcks.

Cameron borrowed many ideas from other movies and Sci-Fi novels but can be forgiven since he did such a good job with the "experience" of his production.
Avatar raised the bar that will be hard to beat.

With one exception, this was a fantastic film. The surround sound audio, the 3D computer graphics and forest scenes were beyond fabulous, they were scintillating. In light of that, it is almost mandatory to watch this film in an IMAX theater.
The story was interesting and compelling. The one exception was the stupid 10-12 minute fight with the villain at the end of the film, which is part of the traditional Hollywood formula. I was hoping this would be one film where that wouldn't happen, but I was wrong. Nonetheless, on every other level this movie was ground breaking and you can bet everyone else in Hollywood will copy the formula.

The Imax 3-D experience was incredible! It is long, but your attention will not waiver from the screen. The story line is nothing new, the indigenious people are modeled after native americans, their plight is the same.....same sad story.... told in sci-fi. And surprise (not)... the hero is a white guy wannabe native..... however, the women in the film are strong and the spiritual connection to the all things is magical. An outstanding experience. I would see it again.

This movie is truely amazing. I would recommend everyone see this movie and if possible see it in IMAX 3D. There is nothing like it. What a love story! What a war story! What a social commentary! I would see this movie again in the theatre in a heartbeat!!!!!!

I was liking the movie very much until I became dizzy and nauseous from the 3D-Imax overwhelming experience. I had to leave. I've done Imax and 3D before, but maybe the combination was too much for my senses. My husband and nephew, however, were able to endure and they really liked it. I look forward to finishing the movie on a smaller screen and without the 3D when that becomes possible.

I must admit, I was expecting a decent special effects movie (not being into this type flick, personally). I was not expecting to be BLOWN AWAY by Avatar. It is beyond words. If you are able, see it in an IMAX theatre. There are no words to describe it -- as it goes beyond the word, "ASTOUNDING!"

The visual experience was great, but the story was predicatable and didn't have much character depth. Still, I'd recommend it for the visual experience alone. Just don't expect much beyond that and enjoy it for what it is.

I was a bit nervous after reading comments and jokes about the movie online..do not be fooled! This moving was amazing. Honestly I'm still struck in a bit of awe and cannot truly describe how much i enjoyed this movie.. all i can say is.. please watch it for yourself! IMAX3D! It is worth it! Really enjoyed this movie; went to have fun, and that's what happened. 3-D was great, and the big screen was fun, and the sound was very full and satisfying! Set design was spectacular, plot very good, you never knew where it was going. It held my interest, and I usually am not that crazy about Sci-Fi.

There is simply nothing in the film industry to compare with Avatar. To see it in Imax 3D is mind blowing. A whole new world created from the minds of men and women - every scene had something new or unique. In a way, the story line reminded me of "Dances With Wolves"; granted you have to think about it a little bit but it's there. I left the theater wanting to see it again and I probably will. How many films can you say that about? You might say it was like "Lord of the Rings" on steroids, nah, it was better than that.

Visually delightful, Avatar was hands down one of the best movie going experiences I've had. The graphics was awe-inspiring, story was engaging and the 3D IMAX experience was just fantastic. It felt like a trip down the fantasy land, and I almost did not want it to end.
I HIGHLY recommend Avatar, do not miss this masterpiece, and for that matter, definitely catch it on IMAX 3D. Finally, a movie with a story line as engaging as the graphics, unlike Transformers 2, Terminator 4 and others.

This was my first foray into 3D besides theme parkes (i.e. Universal Studio's Shrek) so I am perhaps drunk with a honeymooner's lust but I consider this to be the best movie-going experience I've had. Signs and Jurassic Park (at the original Cine-Capri) being at the top of that list for many years.

It's the only way to go! This movie is visually stimulating WITHOUT the 3D glasses, but since it's enhanced, it's like you're on another planet!! I've seen it once, but I want to go back AGAIN and pay MORE! I hardly ever go to the theaters to rewatch the same movie - I just wait til it's out on DVD. But this movie is entirely worth it!

I enjoyed the exquisite digital imagery. I did not like the story line. Very similar, if not plagerized from Dances With The Wolves. If fact, it seemed to me the contrived language of the "aliens" was actually an American Indian dialect. I was appalled by the violence. Think of Dances With The Woves, again, & then recall how the Indians were attacked by our cavalry. The Indians were leading a simple, spiritual existence..close to nature. Get the parallels? Why couldn't the story line have been that the aliens befriended a Star Fleet
& everyone got along just fine..the Americans fell in love with the inhabitants of Avitar..they intermarried..abandoned violence, and everybody lived happily ever after.
