Visually very cool and a joy to watch, but the story is a bit lacking. Pretty much it's every alien invasion of earth story but reversed. The aliens have come to suck up all the resources from a planet after theirs has be ruined. Parts seemed to be a bit of a political statement but not sure if that was the intent, imagine so though. Go see it. It's very cool to watch, just wish they would tell me more about why the rock is worth so much.

The best parts were the incredibly beautiful scenes around Pandora, more of Cameron's inspiration from undersea life. The metaphorical plot of European "civilization" raining genocide onto helpless indigenous people was as subtle as one of their monstrous attack helicopters. About 2/3 through I expected a satisfying ending; it faded to black; but then it faded up again on another 45 minutes of very loud violence! Movies are supposed to suspend disbelief, and for most of this movie it did, but the final battle scenes in which the NaVi with bows and arrows defeated the advanced weapons of the humans ... well, I wanted the NaVi to win, and I tried believing they were winning, but that was too much of a stretch of my imagination.
No, I do not recommend this movie.

The CG is seamless, providing pure interaction of the actors with the elements that are put into the scenes with them. The world that he lets us explore is beyond all conceived notions of what other worlds would be like. Moving the story forward in traditional character and event process, he brings topics of interest that we deal with today, conservationism, racism, capitalism and greed.
Overall, everything this movie brings to light is fantastic.

Moving was amazing!! Saw it in 3D on an IMAX screen. Definitely see this in 3D and on IMAX if you can. I normally get sick with 3D movies, but this was well done and beautiful.
The effects were beyond anything that has every been put out there. Story line simple, yet purposeful and leaving me with huge respect for James Cameron for putting out a movie that he knows will change film making and animation for ever and doing so with a beautiful story we should all get something out of.

I saw this movie in 3D IMAX. That experience salvaged what is otherwise a droll, predictable plot. Let's see.... military man sent on mission becomes one with indigenous people - Dances With Wolves. Leading man falls in love with leading woman under false pretenses and has to come clean - Alladin and hundreds of others. Climactic battle scene where sympathetic characters win - Star Wars, Armageddon, and many others. If you are not going for the special effects, check out something else instead.

Both my wife and I looked at each other as we walked out of the movie and all we could say was WOW! It not only met my expectations, but it exceeded it beyond being able to measure. I now rank it as my all time favorite movie. The 3-D really brought an already beautiful and amazing world to such life that I didn't even notice the time slipping by. It should be a "can't miss" for everybody.

This film surpasses any other in moviemaking technology! And because of that it truly was a remarkable movie-going experience I have ever had. Some moments in the story were indeed predictable but this whole new world called Pandora was so believable and its inhabitants were so real. I would have paid double to see this.
I don't particularly care for 3-D movies so I was expecting objects to be "flying out" of the screen onto the audience, but instead, it was the audience that was drawn into the scenes in the movie--I felt like I was there right next to the characters. You're a true genius, Mr. Cameron!

To see the latest in special effects, this movie is for you. But the plot was one long cliche. The movie was out of the world .... 'pandoresously brialliant'!! Each and every scene was well thought and well made and the actors behind the characters were a perfect fit as well!
The movie could have had more 3-D like effects to enthrall and awe the audience even more ... I was hoping to see more flying objects trying to hit me and I would try to avoid the missile ... but it was nevertheless brilliant!!

I can safely say that James Cameron has set a new standard for the film industry with the production of 'Avatar'. The imagery defied belief in both depth, scope, and complexity. The plot moved quickly throughout while drawing you into the lives of each character within the tale. Details, graphic and storyline, were refined and maintained a sharp edge throughout the feature-length film. I can safely say that the 3-D effect brought out a reality which has completely ruined me for other movies for some time in the future.

This movie is almost too much. Neat story, good acting and editing, w/ amazing special effects. The only thing I would change about this film is the length, but I do not know how I would shorten it as each piece of the most now seems necessary.
Cameron is set to win a lot of awards for this one. Seeing it in 3D at the IMAX experience will be the highlight of your movie watching career.

If you have the choice to watch this movie in 3D - Do it! If you have the choice to see it at an IMAX in 3D like we did even better! This is the biggest strength of the movie. The storyline is very predictable - not bad, but predictable. The winner in the movie is the imagination that created the planet of Pandora and the computer graphic innovators that brought it to 'virtual' life - especially in 3D!

This movie is breathtakingly beautiful to watch. Truly a visual feast! The story is nothing new and reminded me of other film ideas but the characters are strong and the Na'vi, the indigenous people on the planet, are beautifully spiritual and fascinating to look at. The planet is full of spectacular flora and fauna, so brilliant to see, I never lost my wide-eyed amazement. See it in IMAX 3D!

Story line was a little thin and redundant but that is handily overcome by good acting, superb special effects that are made so realistic by the 3-D experience that you sometimes find yourself flinching. Avatar in Imax 3-D was fantastic. The scenery - beautiful. Pandora - imaginative and fresh. The CG - the best yet. In one scene, I was tempted to swat at the bugs that were flitting around.
My daughter said the story line reminded her of Fern Gully, almost blow by blow. Even though there's a strong resemblance, that was a kid's movie, this is not.
An environmental theme that isn't in your face. Just a reminder of what ails our planet.
I'd love to see it again!

I read a couple of reviews about this incredible movie, about how the plot was shallow and derivative, those people should be ashamed of themselves. This was a beautiful story, and carries a deeper message about our relationship to our planet and to each other.
Of course, it was also the most beautiful, exhilarating thing I've ever seen on screen. The IMAX 3-D experience was simply OUT OF THIS WORLD, and has ruined the regular 2-D movie for me forever. Don't listen to the naysayers, GO SEE THIS MOVIE, and be taken away to a place you won't wanna come back from!
