The movie was great but do not use movietickets.com to buy tickets at IMAX in San Antonio because they assign you a seat no matter how early you get their. We were there a hour early and they made us sit on the side front row (neck strain) and would not let us sit in empty seats behind us because they said they were bought eventhough noone showed up.

I was engulfed by this movie in 3d Imax. The scenery and the concept took me away on a grand adventure for almost 3 hours. The 3d and Imax experience made this movie a great escape. I highly recommend seeing this movie in 3d and Imax.

I took my 2 kids...8 (boy) & 10 (girl)....went to IMAX 3-D....they thought the movie was great...I thought it was a little long...the special effects were outstanding....it's the kind of movie you really need to see twice in order to fully absorb everything that is going on...

Loved it.
Story was quite predictable.. But it was still a great film.
Very similar to Last Samurai.. and had very strong social commentary.

I thought this was the most visually stunning movie I have ever seen. It has done to present day movies what The Wizard of OZ did in it's day. The message of the movie was wonderful. I plan to go and see it again.

This film is truly beyond words. Just see it. If you're ready for it, and able to hear the message it delivers, it can be an incredibly powerful spiritual experience. Yes, spiritual!! It's just unbelievable. Nothing else James Cameron has ever made before comes even close to the power of this. Go now to the theatre and view it. I spent 15 bucks for my Imax 3-D ticket, but I would have gladly spent 50.00 or more.

The 3D experience the movie delivered is not like anything 've ever seen before. They did a great job on that. The story is a bit 'hollywood' but the 2hr40min flew by like 15 min.

I saw Avatar in 3D IMAX and woudn't want to see it any other way. This Sci-fi movie has it all, action, romance and special effects to die for. Over all I think this has been the best movie I have ever seen. I never pay to go to a movie twice but this movie will be a first for me, I have to go see it again, this movie is awesome!

Just as "The Jazz Singer" was the film that moved Hollywood firmly into the era of the talkies and "The Wizard of Oz" moved film into color, "Avatar" is the film that will move the industry firmly into 3D.
In that respect, it's the first film of the 21st Century. Everything that goes before is destined to be labeled by film historians as "20th Century film".
ANYONE that loves movies, MUST see Avatar for that reason alone. It's history. Any Sci-Fi or Fantasy fan will love the movie, any film goer that loves a good romance or action adventure will love the movie as well.

Think Matrix meets Dancing with Wolves...simply unreal special effects with a decent storyline. Not usually a big fan of #D movies, but in this movie they enhance, not overwhelm the viewing experience.

Generally, a very enjoyable movie. It had actual character development, which was a pleasant surprise in what I expected to be a basic action flick. The 3D effects weren't used to surprise or scare the audience, but gave depth to an alien world.
The plot was formulaic and predictable, but well done. The weakest part was Cameron reaching back to his Terminator ending where the villain just wouldn't die.
The flora and fauna of the Pandora were rendered very realistically if at times a little too psychedelic for my tastes.
Over all a very enjoyable movie.

I have been going to movies for the past 50+ years. While I give the story a B, the execution of the movie in Imax 3D was simply amazing. My bride and I both feel that WOW isn't enough to describe this movie experience. The 3D effects are not just showy but contribute to understanding this imagined world. Run, don't walk to see it in Imax 3D.

Absolutley loved the movie. It seemed like the grown up version of Disney's Fern Gully with guns. I'm so glad it had a happy ending. It ended exactly they way I hoped it would. I would have been mad if I had invested 2 1/2 hours of my life and had to walk away feeling sad or depressed. It also seemed like there were a lot of deleted scenes. I can't wait to buy the DVD to see the deleted scenes. I would have liked to have seen the rest of Jake Sully's confrontation with the Toyak (sp?) (the big red flying dragon).

This movie was awesome. As with all movies available in 3D, I had to see it, and IMAX was even better. Just the graphics and 3D alone were enough to make the movie a good one, they did a real good job setting the scenes well for a 3D experience.
As for the story. Yeah, that was good too. If you like SciFi then you'll go for it. Plus, add in an actual story and you'll really get into it. I think they could've gone into better detail or back story about a few things, some driving points of the plot seemed unlikely given our nations past, but all in all it was good if you just go with it and see it from the minds of the natives.
Definitely a great movie, one of the best I've seen in a really long time!

The affects are wonderful and so vivid.Colorful and imaginative.All together a wonderful EXPERIENCE, but as usual the story was the same old story..I guess James C had to introduce this before anyone else and all he could do to introduce this new way of cinema experience before anyone else did was by making it with the same story of greed and man wanting what does not belong to him.I can still say I loved this movie and it was a great introduction..I hope alot more movies are made this way. No turning back now.

Just the usual Ultra-Liberal Hollywood brainwashing propaganda film trying to make us feel guilty about not "loving our mother earth" and "White man is Evil for stealling the land from the natives" (the alien race was a blatant ripoff of the native americans in early America) The fact that I saw it in IMAX 3D made it worse... the over-playing of the 3D effects made the movie less believble to me... not more!

This movie and the Imax 3D experience is excellent all the way. And not just for this Sci-Fi/Animation fan either. I took my girlfriend (who is hard to please), her brother (who didn't have any interest in seeing it), and my sister (who prefers 'chick-flicks' to all other movies) to see this movie and THEY LOVED IT!!!
Avatar has a Plot, Story, Great Visuals, and Excellent Action. It does its job-- to entertain you for almost 3 hours! It is an A+ with 5 stars!

This movie was 100% predictable, because I've seen it before. It was Dances With Wolves/Last Samurai meets Ferngully: The Last Rainforest.
The really sad part was the soundtrack. James Horner recycled his old tunes from Glory and Willow. It's really annoying to be watching a movie for the first time, and get distracted with "no where have I heard that music before..."
The 3D experience was great, as an experience, but having already seen UP in 3D earlier this year, it still paled. All in all, it was a great popcorn flick, but popcorn flicks don't last 3 hours long.

Innovative effects is "all" this movie has going for it. As for the rest of the movie, I found myself extremely bored and trying to see the time on my watch. I actually yawned three times. The noise level is deafening...but then most "action" movies depend upon ear-splitting noise. This movie is a summer blockbuster and should have been released then. The storyline is predictable and has been seen in countless other "summer blockbusters." In its defense, the effects are extraordinary and should be seen for that - and for that alone - but be prepeared to experience those effects for close to three hours!

I loved everything about this movie - the world and culture created by Cameron, the music, the timeless lovestory. Yes, the story has been done before, how many have not? But this is beautiful and moving beyond words. I've seen it three times - in the fantasic 3D Imax - and leave emotionally uplifted everytime.

This movie is bad. I don't care about the visual effects. How about a cohesive interesting story that's stripped of all the extraneous attempts to distract with shiny lights? I'm not a fish. I'm a human. I need a story that's compelling and interesting. I went in with low expectations naively hoping that it might exceed my expectations. Unfortunately is exceeded them in the wrong direction and it was somehow worse than I ever imagined it would be. I don't uderstand the type of dimwits who give this a positive review. Its like they've never seen a good movie before. 3 HOURS! Why so long for such a stupid and blantantly obvious piece of garbage. Everyone knew where it was headed so why keep us there for 3 HOURS! UGH!

All too familiar plot and characters, albeit with clever sci-fi twists. Many echos of "Dances With Wolves," i.e., nature-loving native peoples victimized by greedy invaders from far away, only this film trades the West for spectacular intergalactic settings. It'sundeniably a stunning, breathtaking theater experience that takes you to magnificently colorful and beautiful places like no film before it. Its 3D imagery of creatures and otherworldly forests are astonishing and original.
