If this is not the best movie I've ever seen, it is certainly among the top 2 or 3. I was bowled over by the effects from start to finish. I was also, unlike some other reviews I've seen, very moved by the story line and the character interaction. The story lines are some that we've seen before (Romeo & Juliet for one), but the acting and character interaction made these truly fictional characters, in their totally fictional setting, TOTALLY believable.
All in all, this experience cost me $60 (including treats) for a group of 3, but RARELY have I ever walked out of a movie, in recent years, and felt as though it was money well spent... this is one of those movies... I'd go again!

Absolutely ground breaking film in the IMAX 3d format. The story was much better than the critics have opined. A little " left " but it's somewhat of a morality play.
Truly the most eye opening picture since Star Wars debuted back in 77 and that says alot !!

Avatar was simply an incredible show of amazing visual stimulation. Avatar's Pandora is gorgeous, the efx are incredible and the blend of real and cgi is hard to detect.
The biggest downside for me is the story. While its not a bad plot it has been done before so there are times when things are predictable. A few times during the movie they reference things that have little to do with what is going on, only to have it have greater importance later,and if they hadn't made the earlier reference you would have no idea why it was significant. I would say that this could have been remedied if this was a 3 part movie, as I feel that the Na'vi people should have been given more depth. See it!

This is a fantastic movie! The visual effects are amazing. I recommend seeing it in IMAX 3D though. The 3D just made it so much better. I took my wife who doesn't like any type of sci-fi and she thought it was really good. The main character had a little hokie dialogue but overall good flick.

I saw the movie in both 2D (on a bit of a lark) and in 3D IMAX with my wife and 19 year old daughter. They were both surprised as how enjoyable the film was - but both thought is was too long by at least 30 minutes. (I did not feel that way, tho).
The story is basically 'Dances with Wolves' as I imagine it would have been (re)written by Isac Asimov (or Ray Bradbury) - so nothing really unique is going on with the plot. It's just been adapted for the alien aspect rather nicely, imo. The film is visually breath-taking, with no break in the action. I actually felt that I was part of the action in certain key points of the film. Very impressive.

I saw the IMAX 3D showing and thought is was fantastic. The love story is extraorginary and the filming is excellent. There is also a huge message to live within our surrounds that we should always respect. Accept others for whom they are and don't take anything in life for granted.

By far the best special effects I've ever seen in a movie - absolutely mind boggling. The IMAX 3D is worth the price for this film. The effects definitly make the film worthwhile to see. The downside is the plot is mediocre at best and I admit to checking my watch 90 minutes into the film.

The movie was very good. However, the 3-D and Imax made it a movie experience I have never before experienced. As an example, I used to find roller coasters an extreme thrill. Then in the military I had the opportunity be be launched off an aircraft carrier and roller coasters have never been the same. A movie will now never be the same as a 3D Imax experience!!!

This is perhaps the best movie I have ever seen. While Avatar didn't leave me with a life changing message, the entertainment quality was absolutely phenomenal! And, it's reasonably kind for middle aged children. There are only a few snippets of bad language. I haven't had this level of movie experience since I was a young and watched Star Wars at age 12. Wow!

I saw AVATAR in IMAX 3-D. I thought before that the technical features would be exceptional and they were. Even though the plot is as old as history, an oppressed people by a wealthy foe, the story in AVATAR made this sci-fi believable. The love story gave the movie warmth and realism.
Definitely worth a trip to the movies.Spend the extra money to see it in IMAX.

When I first saw the trailer on TV (in 2D) I thought this looked like a very cheesy blend of live action and CG with a ho-hum story line. After getting great reviews from my friends (who are in the film/visual industry) I decided to give it a chance.
It was a beautiful, creative, entertaining experience of sight and sound. The 3D element was enjoyable also- I saw it on 3D Imax. The story was nothing new, but it served its purpose of creating a solid frame work on which to build a beautiful piece of art around. The sound was amazing too. I left the film feeling inspired and uplifted. Some people say it was too long, but I stayed entertained the whole time.

Avatar in 3D IMAX was one of the most incredible movies I have ever seen. It only takes about 5 minutes to forget the glasses and really start to feel you are "in" the movie. The scenes with flying or running are so vivid and real that I felt like I needed to catch my breath because I was running! Wow!
