This movie was one of the best movies I have seen. I do not know who would want to see it NOT in 3D. I haven't had a 3D experience since going to Disney. I actually was going to the movie with my boyfriend n wasn't expecting I would like it-I loved it!

The story was incredibly predictable and dull at the same time. The visuals were incredible and may have been worth the money themselves.

The movie kept me interested the entire time and the visual effects were pretty outstanding, which is why I would say that you should see the movie if you're considering it. On the downside, like other reviewers I found the movie VERY preachy in not subtle ways, which detracted a lot from my overall enjoyment -- when they introduced "unobtanium" as the resource that brought humans to Pandora, I wasn't sure I heard it right (couldn't come up with anything more clever than that??). The acting was fine, but there's no way this movie should be up for best picture.

A nice looking film, though the 3D and IMAX didn't add much. This movie is Dances With Wolves with blue people instead of Native Americans. Every single plot element from Avatar was in Dances w/ Wolves. This movie did nothing new at all.
Calling the precious metal unobtainium was just plain silly. Unobtainium, like Adamantium (Think Wolverine), is another of those fictional metals from comic books. I have no idea why they went there especially when the name of the metal is not important. And the planet's name is Pandora. Could there have been a clumsier metaphor?
An entertaining diversion. Pretty sights. Fun action scenes. But it feels like a big cheat with a political agenda.

The CGI was excellent, the romantic story was cute, but the anti-US/anti-corporate (in search of Unobtanium-- Unatainable goals--get it) and the tree hugging became overbearing. Be nice to mother earth and respect our resources... we get it! And although the IMAX experience was awesome, there really was not a lot of 3D "wow" moments. The story did not need them, and quite frankly the NASA trailer before the movie utilized the effect much better. A ground breaking movie that was interesting, but best movie? The jury is still out.

I liked the action at the end, but actually the story was a snore. I will stick to real life well written, well acted and well directed films.

I watched the movie at an IMAX theater which I recommend because you can pick out your seats in advance. The movie was awesome for its special effects. I enjoyed watching the movie but wasn't totally impressed by the plot. I would recommend this movie to others mostly because of the 3D experience.

Sorry to say i never got to see Avatar...although I purchased 4 tickets in advance on line and got to the theater 1/2 hour before to stand in line , the only seats available were in the front row and there were not even 4 together.
Very disappointing.....Why do they even make seats that close....
Glad to say money was refunded

I wanted to see this movie as much to see the new technology as for the story. But like others, I was totally taken away by the movie and felt like I was THERE. My granddaughter, who's 14, has told everyone she's seen since that it is the best movie EVER! :) And I have to agree.
I would recommend this movie to anyone who loves science fiction, action movies or love stories. Something for everyone! And computer animation will never be the same...

Special effects - including the Nav'i - spectacular
The acting - ranged from wooden to average. Matt Gerald was the worst, to be fair he wasn't given the best material to work with.
The script, predictable, no new ground,
The lengh, could have chopped 30 minutes out of it easy, how many breathtaking shots of mountains, trees and waterfalls do you really need.

I was reluctant to see Avatar as I did not like the trailers and thought it was cartoonish. I realized that this was a movie that I had to see on the big screen. My friend said he saw a mini imax screening and really wanted to see it. We decided to take his ten year old daughter and her twin girl friends. When the movie ended the three ten year olds stood up and said it was the best movie they ever saw. After the first hour I was starting to squirm a bit but as the movie progressed more on the planet I was so engrossed that it was hard to believe that it was over. Although I enjoyed the Imax and special effects, the message of the story itself made this a memorable and wonderful movie experience.

IMAX 3D was an absolutely invigorating experience! I felt like the theater room DISAPPEARED!
I left the theater not realizing that this movie was actually almost 3 hours long!
The action and fight scenes in this movie rival the immense intensity of the graphics and imagination put into this engrossing and captivating masterpiece! (for lack of better terms)
In short, this movie ROCKS! Literally!

Must see in IMAX! Kick back and enjoy the movie and don't try and be like the critiques who have nothing but time on their hands and pick out all the negative s**t. Just ENJOY the movie.
I just paid attention to what was going on and let the rest of the plot pan itself out and I had a blast! Must see in IMAX not 3D or regular screening.

I was truly surprised by this movie because when all the hype first started I had no desire to see it. Family, friends and reviews drove me to see it in 3D IMAX and I was so glad that I did. The message that Cameron so ellegantly bestowed was so true and upfront. It was refreashing to see that he did not give in and his message was strong and well stated. The special effects and details where amazing. The time spent in casting was seen by the matchup of actors and actresses that where chosen for thier roles. I can not wait to own this movie to watch again and again. Looking forward to the next Avatar but he has really set a high bar for himself...

Avatar was an excellent movie. I consider myself some what hard to please when it comes to movie watching. This is one of those movies that is a "must see" especially in the theatre (IMAX 3D). It was action packed with a touching storyline. It was a job well done by James Cameron. Bottom line, go see it! You will be glad you did.

Worth the money, Took us an hour & fifteen mins. to get to a IMAX theater, but worth every min. The glasses can be bothersome after 2.5 hrs. but still worth it. GO SEE IT!!!

Okay, I would have removed a star for predictable story plot, but the effects more than made up for it! Especially in 3D. It is one of the most imaginative movies I have ever seen and I can't wait to see it again. Even the 3 hour time slot felt more like 30 minutes. If you are resisting this movie because of its popularity, do yourself a favor, get over it, and see this movie in 3D while you still can!

What I like the most about this movie is that there is a solid story and well chosen characters for their roles. Without these, it would be just a flashy movie with lots of Hollywood effects and that's about it.

I loved the total immersion into the world of this movie. The effects were spectacular. The 3D in Imax has no distortion around the edges as other 3d screenings do. Yes, the message was heavy handed but that does not matter. It's Cameron's money he can say what he wants. I do tend to agree but it may be unrealistic. Nevertheless, it is the best film I've seen this year. I would recommend this to everyone.
